A list of puns related to "Speakable"
how would I convert a phonemic inventory consisting of z,f,b,l,r,Κ,m,ΞΈ,Ι ,Ι,i,o,u,ae,Κ, and Κ into something actually speakable? i made the languages' basics in a fever dream-like state, then reconstructed it after losing all my progress. However, certain qualities that happened naturally in the language when i was making it i want to keep. so i decided that the proto-version of this language would keep the old quirks(as it was with the old writing system the intresting parts happened) and the new one would be streamlined and, preferably, something that can actually be used.
i know the obvious answer is "just give up on this language and start over", but i do not listen to common sense, so any advice?
I have a iPad running iOS 15.1, and I have the text to speech capability turned on in accessibility settings (Read Aloud). When I do a two finger swipe to activate text to speech in iBooks with an ePub file, I get a error that says "no speakable content found ", however, if I highlight a bunch of words and hit the "speak" button, all of my highlighted words speak back to me without any issues⦠No issues with PDF files, but almost all my ebooks are in epub format. Is there any way to fix this?
Ithkuil itself seems very hard to learn, but I like the idea behind it. Does anyone speak ithkuil more or less fluently?
The speakable schema markup (TTS: Text to speech) is no more and has become outdated.
To use this feature you will now need to follow the updated text-to-speech guidelines (news and article posts in English)

I'm taking a Spanish class and I use they/them pronouns and Spanish is a very gendered language so I'm getting very tired of being misgendered in the language I'm trying to learn. So does anyone know a few gender-neutral language bits in Spanish?
Cool I found this. Looks like it's a good place to share my recent thoughts and get help.
I'm a programmer and for some time I'm thinking about a creating a logic based language, most important a grammar.
The problem with "lojban", the probably best known logic based language, is, it's very different to most natural languages.
So the goals of the language are these:
In the last few years I tried a few different approaches and think, my current grammar may work.
I'll explain the basic grammar here.
A sentence is just a set of parametric expressions. When telling a sentence, you assume, there is some object, for which all of these expressions are true.
Here a short example:
done-by(I) walk
=> There's something done by me, that is the action of walking => "I walk"
Implicit nesting is probably the most difficult thing to get done unambiguously. Before telling my solution, let's start by looking at other languages.
Most programming languages and lojban use explicit nesting using one or multiple kinds of brackets. These brackets can be symbols or words. In some cases, some brackets can be elided or are implicit, but in the end they still need explicit nesting, which is difficult to remember when talking.
So let's look at natural languages, which do it better, but sometimes ambiguously. In natural languages, there is punctuation to make the n
... keep reading on reddit β‘I have been developing a Conlang which uses "keys" (Classifiers of words) for a while now. I posted on the Subreddit prematurely, back when my language was barely a concept, but now I have a full tense and grammar system, and a dictionary of enough words to be useful in normal speech! A couple examples, and then I would like to explain how the system works after some refinements:
Vey-ik qey-ze zey-ne zey-ni.
I will begin to work/Later I will begin to work.
ΒΏVey-ze qey-ci zey-ne zey-nin vey-cik qey-cin?
When do you begin your new job?
Lastly...
ΒΏVey-en qey-cin zey-ni zey-te?
Is your work complete?
Here is how my language works. There are a number of "Keys", sort of like prefixes, that define what a word means. For example, Vey- is the key of tense, grammar, and basic questions. Every sentence MUST begin with a Vey- key, because of the structure of sentences:
Tense/question-Actor-Verb.
Descriptive Sentence Structure:
Tense/question-Noun-Adjectives
To explain better, let us explain the most complex example sentence I have put together:
ΒΏVey-ze qey-ci zey-ne zey-nin vey-cik qey-cin?
When do you begin your new job?
First, Vey-ze. Vey is the key of tense, grammar, and basic questions, or as I like to call it: "Sentence starters." After Vey comes ze. Vey and Ze together mean "when".
Then, Qey-ci. Qey is the key of pronouns and possesives. Qey-Ci means "You".
For zey-ne, It means to begin, as zey is simple verbs.
Now for the hard one: Zey-nin. Zey-ni means Work or Labour. By adding a modifier to turn it into Zey-nin, which means "A job or place of work."
Continuing with the modifiers, Vey-cik (Which you may recognize as the sentence starter key), means New. Why? Because Vey-ci means NOW. So adding a modifier changes it to new.
Now for the last part: Qey-cin. Above, it is shown that Qey-ci means you. Adding a modifier changes it to your.
Hence: When do you begin your new job?
What do you think?
Iβm just wondering and I have no knowledge about both lojban and programming so I canβt help or anything but the attempt is super cool.
Im not talking about creating a language for use in a fictional story or anything, Im talking about creating a legitimate language for the real world.
The biggest reason for a conlang that I've had has always been logical consistency.
I've been looking for a good language to learn and ended up having to go to conlangs only to be disappointed and to start making my own, but there's still tons to learn even though I've gone through quite a lot.
Here's some examples of things I've always wanted to solve:
#1
You: Make me a sandwich.
Robot: *transforms you into a sandwich*
#2
You: That's not what I was thinking!
Enemy: Of course, because you didn't have anything to think with!
#3
Croatian 1: Bio sam sa Zdenkom
Croatian 2: *doesn't know did Croatian 1 mean Zdenko or Zdenka*
#4
patro=father. patrino=mother. gepatro=parent
kato=male cat, katino=female cat, gekato=male or female cat
ulo=guy, ulino=gal, geulo=SHEMALE!!!
Which means that gepatro is a shemale parent and that gekato is a shemale cat!!!
#5
Croatian 1: Gdje je Δaj? (Where is the tea?)
Croatian 2: Skuhat Δe se. (It will cook itself.)
(Sidenote: All languages with such a reflexive inconsistency most probably affect every speaker of it in a lazy-ifying way!)
Croatian Wife: Ε ta je sa suΔem? (What's with the dishes?)
Croatian Husband: Oprat Δe se. (It will wash itself.)
(Sidenote: See what I mean?)
#6
Modification is pronounced modifikejΕ‘n.
Anion is pronounced enajan.
Cation is pronounced..... kejΕ‘n or ketajan???!!!
#7
Mouse, mice. House HICE!!!
Or if house, houses, why then not mouse mouses???
#8
"I read." Wait? Read or readed???
#9
"Fear the Lord." and then "Fear not." just because Indo-European languages don't differentiate context like how Biblical Hebrew does!!!
Solve this problem with a conlang and all religious wars will end!
Most probably to the extent that there won't even be a "No religion" rule everywhere in life.
#10
"That's childish!" Wait. Childish as in "innocent" or childish as in "immature"?
#11
Hat, has, had, have(!). Why not hav?
***
I could ramble more, but I cannot anymore.
Is there a conlang that can solve this?
Other requirements:
I, like most here, want to make a conlang. I want to make my conlang as flexible grammarly as possible, and based on my previous post, I decided to based it on interlinear gloss.
The idea is, giving a pronoubcable name for every abbreviation in a gloss, including things like hyphen.
What do you think about this. Is this possible? Realistic? Boring? Has it been done before?
Thank you in advance
Even if our ozone layers have vanished, even if the polar caps have melted entirely and flooded the continents; the greed (need?) for mineral oil will remain.
Humans won't stop, even if it affects themselves. It's nonsense to believe that anyone would really learn from a "global accident". Because we all are involved, we absent our single selves from the cause; missing that we're standing within the big picture that makes up the entire human population. Granted, it's hard to find the position of oneself in such a huge photograph.
"I'll do it, if they do it as well!" No, be honest. You do nothing to stop it. Neither do I. We still use electricity and gas, we drive to work and back, keep getting our resources from companies that travel far distances to provide the things we need, etc. Today's humanity is not fit to go and survive back in the jungle.
It's far too late to try to stop climate change. It will happen, it's undeniable. We could only try to slow it down, but the collapse will come eventually.
Humans should not discuss "how to stop climate change", as they are neither ready nor able to do it. Instead, start to discuss about HOW we are going to survive WITH the changes.
This is the one and only speakable truth about climate change.
When I make a companion with the creation kit, it is not possible to speak to them. I made an alien companion but I cannot talk to him. What do i do?
This might sound extremely romantic in the eyes of many but please follow my train of thought:
All human languages have mensurable dimensions:
Velocity (Syllable-per-second)
Information Density
Syllable Complexity
Syllable Inventory
Symbolic Rate
Would it be a stretch to think that the best suited creators of language to be machines? ML has proven to be an ever growing field that prioritizes use of big data for best efficiency of other fields and itself. We got data for hundreds of languages.
If the best language has the maximum possible information density in relation to it's speed such that a human's sense of time is capable of comprehending, what is it's structure?
Does this make sense?
