A list of puns related to "Sluice"
There is no trinket or mastery reward for completing the region, you have no map, and the enemies look much more difficult than the other regions, and it looks like the least developed part of the game. What are the benefits?
1. An artificial passage for water(as in a millstream) fitted with a valve or gate for stopping or regulating flow. 2. A body of water pent up behind a floodgate. 3. A dock gate. 4. A stream flowing through a floodgate.
I have loved saying this word since I was a kid. There's verb definitions for it as well, but just thought I'd share these for now.
When you first get into Strawberry, there's a sluice that goes from the cliff behind the butcher to the stream that runs in the middle of town. At the top are a couple of . . . vats? What could this be for?
I found it a little disappointing in variety so far. I LOVE the idea of it, a shorter area that appears filled to the brim with fights and danger. But right now I avoid it because
A) no rewards for completing it. I know you don't have the map and only combat nodes spawn, so it'd be impossible with some of the objectives, bit I'd still like it to be there. Furthermore, I know it's shorter, but you have to fight a lot more. Surely that balances out to the same amount of fighting total.
B) low encounter variety. They all just feel the same. And Wilbur (I think that's his name, haven't played DD1) does exactly what the big pigs do.
Thoughts?
Right, so, up until now I have only made a few posts on this subreddit and most have been memes but don't let that fool you into thinking I don't adore the lore.
The Sluice in Darkest Dungeon 2 is brutal (somewhat) and the implications of it are especially great. Sometimes within The Sluice, The Academic will comment "the swine were first sighted by a peculiar hamlet somewhere to the East" (I do not remember the exact quote but he does namedrop the Hamlet, so forgive me), and within The Sluice you can sometimes fight a massive and suspiciously familiar swine... named Wilbur. The two smaller swine with him use moves like Mark for Death alongside their normal moves, and Wilbur has inherited the Swine God's Obliterate Bodies move.
All in all, I think it's incredibly fair to say these are the same Swine from The Warrens of the first game, albeit evolved a bit.
But we are no longer in a Hamlet, and indeed are nowhere near it if the aforementioned quote is anything to go by. The monsters from the Hamlet are expanding, which means that neither The Heart nor The Sleeper are here anymore, canonically destroyed by The Heroes and ending the cycle - this is what set the world mad.
So I have a few questions. Have all of the monsters from The Hamlet set about moving across the world? The reanimated corpses of the Lost Battalion in a huge jungle is very reminiscent of The Weald and its denizens (minus the fungus and parasites), and so I have to wonder if each of the other Crossroads will be new areas with new enemies, with one Sluice-like region containing enemies from the Hamlet. It would make sense; five crossroads, and five areas with monsters that could have left - the skeletons of The Ruins, the swine of The Warrens, the witches of The Weald, the fishmen of The Cove, and the Bloodsuckers of The Court.
Since the death of the Heart and Sleeper, the Darkest Dungeon proper and The Mill do not count, as any cultists who worshipped the Heart appear to have been absorbed into the new cult, and the death of The Sleeper would free any of the long-dead creatures in The Mill to finally rest.
Those are just my thoughts. I would love to hear any theories from y'all.
Spoke to the inventor of dream mat and we will both be running both products (Kreeger sluice and dream mat) live.
I'm hoping this isn't some odd bug on my end. I've actually never once experienced anything in the Sluice biome, because every time it comes up as an option, it features no reward or special condition, so it's just not worth going after when I night otherwise get a solid trinket or extra Mastery points.
Is there a reason for this?
I was just wondering, is there any mention from the Devs that the Sluice is yet to be completed? It appears we have been given a taste of what is to come because with no map, rewards, and short run, it seems out of place for now....
Anyone get this area yet?
Should have taken some screenshots but i didn't think anything of it at the time. Seems like an unfinished area can drop into your route choice.
My friend and I have been playing the Oceanblock Mod pack for a couple of days now on a server and everything has been going good until I tried to hook the Netherite Sluice up to power and the sluice was not allowing power (FE) to be piped into it. I have done this before in my singleplayer world and everything has been fine.
I have added some pictures to help illustrate my situation. The Sieve is receiving water and gravel automatically. When I hook up other FE-powered matches to the cables, like a pulverizer, everything works fine but the slice still will not receive power. We are playing on version 1.9.0. The reactor is from the 'Powah' modpack and so are the cables. I have this exact setup on my singleplayer world and everything works fine but it seems when moved onto an online server some things got messed up. (I did not move my singleplayer world we started a new one)
If anyone has any fixes on how I can get my Netherite slice's powered that would be greatly appreciated!

I for one never thought they would bring back the swine as an enemy in dd2, well they're back, and I hate them more than ever.
So I'm on my second dd2 run, and being curious I decided to check out The Sluice. Horrible idea. The hardest area by far. There are no events, only fights and cultist battles, it's about half the size of every other area, which could be seen as a positive, but only because you want to get out as fast as you can. There are three enemy types, swine skulkers, which are medium hp, moderate damage little bastards that can stealth and dodge buff, big ones with 50 hp that can either stress cleave with low damage, stress cleave with high damage, or stun and do like 20 damage. Then there's Wilbur. Yep, he's back. Except this time he's beefy. He's just a stronger version of the big swine.
Save your run, avoid it.
I was thinking if Freddie dodge and Juan can make a show pretty much about getting perfect align, angle and water flow on a sluice, why is it in bsg it seems the sluices are just dumped in place and throw some water down it, see what happens. Why don't they take more care and catch a better percentage?
It gives the ores directly, which is nice, but it no longer gives coal. The only other alternative I can find is the Mini Utilities quarry, but that gives ore so itβs slightly annoying.
