Not too many people are aware of Shays Rebellion.
After the British were pushed out of what is now USA, each state kind of operated in their own, with own policies and own currencies.
A revolutionary war veteran, Daniel Shays, returned to his home in Massachusetts and only found his livelihood ruined. Deeply in debt, Shays and his fellow former soldiers organized a rebellion in 1786.
Shays was actually one of the less aggressive leaders of the rebellion, but since his name was the best known of this rebellion, it was named after him. The rebels mostly attacked courthouses and other government buildings, to prevent courts from convening and foreclosures from taking place.
The governor of Massachusetts, who was a stooge of the rich merchants there, hired 4,000 men on his own and fought the rebels. In early 1787, the professional soldiers defeated Shays' men, who fled to other places. Shays fled to Vermont, which was not part of USA at that time, and died in obscurity.
Shays' rebellion made the elites feel the necessity to form something stronger than individual states, and led to the Constitutional Convention and the Presidency. Of course, the farms of the soldiers were all foreclosed and distributed among the governor's friends in the end.
Anyone who thinks the people have a right to rebel in USA should read about Shays' Rebellion and the Bonus Army. I have forgotten more history books than most history professors read.

The name says it all, I think this would be a GREAT movie.
