Some interesting facts...
Hussar's first appeared as a brigade in the Hungarian Army, but it was comprised almost entirely of Serbian soldiers.
Even the word Hussar originates from Serbian, Gusar. This is essentially a pirate (even more so in modern Serbian), which is appropriate.
Hussar's in Poland originated as Serbian Hajduks (outlaws) who were mercenaries and fled Ottomans. In Poland the original Hussars were called Racowie, which was Polish for Rascians, the early medieval Serbian state.
What I want to say with this is... even though there is no Serbia Civ in AOE2, there is a bit of Serbia in almost all civs!
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
It really does, I swear!

Nothing, he was gladiator.
Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
When I got home, they were still there.

Hi guys, I made reddit just to post this :)
With the Dawn of the dukes coming, there has been some speculation whether Serbs would be a part so I just wanted to throw in a few ideas about how I think my people should be represented
First of all, I would make them an ARCHER civ with strong heavy cavalry. I think currently there's a bit of a stereotype with Slavic nations and melee soldiers, and it is important not just to make a reskin of the Bulgarians. Which is tough, we are pretty close... And related after all!
Historically, in the early middle ages Balkan Slavs and subsequently Serbs were famed for their ambushes and were primarily armed with bows and spears, that's why I would like to give them some archer and skirmisher related bonus in the early game.
There were even accounts of them laying in ambush beneath the surface of the water, breathing through straws... But that's hardly applicable in aoe2.
Archers were also credited in playing a large role in the battle of VelbuΕΎd against the Bulgarians.
On the other hand, heavy knights shined in the battle of Kosovo where a group of knights broke through the Ottoman lines and slew the sultan Murad I.
Even after becoming vassals to his son Bayezid they were still a force to be reckoned with, showing their worth against Tamerlane at Angora.
Now the unique unit:
It would be a light cavalry armed with either sling or six feathered mace (Ε‘estoperac). The sling thing was actually Byzantine but we copied a lot from them, I just generally thought it would be fun :) The mace on the other hand is definitely our thing
The best name for it would be "Uskok" but "ZatoΔnik" "KrajiΕ‘nik" "Gusar" or "Hajduk", would work as well, al of them were historical units, engaged in either frontier skirmishes or guerrilla warfare. Granted, some of these were more prominent in the early modern rather than the medieval period, but KrajiΕ‘nik was most definitely a medieval unit.
Uskoks were not only Serbs but also Croats, I don't know if they are also going to be a part of it so that's why I gave the other names. It's hard to translate Uskok but it kinda means raider.
Gusar is actually the predecessor of the Hussar and in modern serbian it actually means pirate.
To reflect the Serbs constant battling with stronger opponents through history, I suggest that this unique unit has bonus damage PROPORTIONAL to the target's gold cost!
I have to say that the initial idea of a blunt force weapon ignoring armour was already taken by
