Sepal - a plant pet with unique mechanics

Introduction

>When it comes to pets, we have two types: rideable pets, like horses, which are used for traveling and carrying extra items, and the more domestic kind of pets, which includes dogs and cats. Out of all of these, only dogs are used for combat.

>We also have not other mob "kingdoms" besides animals and golems (which aren't alive per se).

>With this I introduce the Sepal, a sentient plant that can be tamed and help you fight, with several unique mechanics.

>The name comes from sepals, an actual part of plants.

So, without further ado, the suggestion...

Appearance

Sepals look like 1-1.5 block tall flowers. It's stem is about 4-6 pixels wide. It has 2 bigger leaves, one on each side and maybe some smaller ones.

The flower itself has a diameter of about a block.

Just below the flower, it had two eyes. Unlike most mobs, their eyes are 2x2.

The petals come in a variety of colours, so be sure to collect them all.

Spawning

Sepals spawn rarely in forests (all kinds, maybe), jungles sunflower fields and, slightly more commonly, flower plains.

Some biomes have exclusive variants (like the jungle) and the relative rarity of each variant varies according to the biome.

Behaviour

Like foxes, Sepals sleep at night. When they do, their flower closes (and probably their eyes too).

They can only sleep on overworld soil blocks. They can't be pushed when sleeping (because they're rooted)

They move by hopping for small distances and rotating their big leaves like an helicopter to fly for larger distances. This means **they don't teleport **to you when you're to far away (teleporting is just an easy solution to a bad AI).

They can only fly for a few seconds at a time.

During the day, they alternate between rooting themselves and flying around.

They have two attacks:

  • Melee attack - rotates its leaves, dealing 2 damage (1β™₯).

  • Ranged attack - shoots it's petals. The petals fly in a straight line for about 10 blocks before starting to fall. Each petal deals 2-4 damage (1-2β™₯). When it runs out of petals, it has to wait a bit before they grow back.

They have 8 health (4β™₯).

They can heal themselves by:

  • rooting themselves in hydrated farmland;

  • rooting themselves in soil while exposed to rain;

  • rooting themselves after being in water (doesn't need to be a source block);

  • rooting themselves after being **hit by a splash water
