Hello and welcome to the second Ante Bellum country preview regarding the upcoming 1.6 'Legacy of Seljuk' update. Today, I would like to show what is perhaps the most exciting part of the entire update - a total overhaul of the Byzantine content! Without further ado, let's begin with their backstory!
In AD 1204, when the Varangian Guard cast the Venetian mongrels into the sea, and the Imperial Navy set their fleet ablaze, many had hoped that the dawn of a new resurgent era was nigh. Alas, such optimism was rapidly dashed against the rocks of the Golden Horn. Despite facing a crisis which may have seen them hanged from the Theodosian Walls, the Angelid dynasty nonetheless proved themselves utterly incapable of malicious negligence and inept management of the Eastern Roman Empire. With nothing but the most opulent degeneracy on full display and never a care in the world, the House of Angelos was quickly taken advantage of by the aristocracy.
Having maintained their useless emperors as figureheads, the Constantinopolitan clique would aid in further advancing the Byzantine nosedive, filling their coffers while the people starved and fled eastwards. Even against the threat of Bulgarian invasion in the 13th century, the imperial regime did nothing in response.
Yet, when Leon Gabras took up arms and saved the empire, he was hastily banished to a governorship in Anatolia. With an impending Turkish invasion, it was expected that he would perish, no longer posing a threat to the machinations of the political elite. This assumption proved false, and the Saviour of Thrace declared unilateral independence from Constantinople and from the Empire, having concluded that the Roman dream was long dead.
Well over a century has passed since those times, and Constantinople is in shambles; the city's population numbers at a meagre 20,000 and - outside of the merchant and palace districts, is in total disrepair. A recent defeat against the Bulgarian Empire has also halved the Roman rump state's size, while simultaneously severing the land connection from Attica to the capital.
On the other hand, the Nicene junta has benefited greatly from the decades-long influx of refugees. Fleeing Seljuk, Bulgar, and Angelid oppression alike, these desperate folk recognise the Gabras kingdom as the best hope for a Greek future, but the fledgling realm's tria

Hello and welcome to the first Ante Bellum country preview regarding the upcoming 1.6 'Legacy of Seljuk' update. Today, I would like to show you one of the most important countries of the update, the Seljuk Sultanate. Without further ado, let's begin with their backstory!
In the late 10th Century, Sassanid soldiers subjugated the nomadic Turkic tribes of the Central Asian Steppe, seeking allies for their coming wars against the Byzantines and Arabs. Assuming command of the Turkic forces, the Seljuks spearheaded the Sassanid invasion of the Near East. However, the Seljuks were not battling for a foreign king lazing about in the Persian heartland; they had their own dreams of conquest and glory. In the aftermath of the Battle of Manzikert, the Seljuks seized much of Anatolia, Mesopotamia, and the Caucasus, proclaiming their own empire and turning the tables against the Sassanids. While Seljuk Empire was mighty, it was internally divided upon religious, cultural, and tribal lines. Even bringing in Turkic tribes to settle the Caucasus did not prevent the fledgling state's fracturing. By the time the Mongol Empire pushed through Iran and Armenia in the 13th Century, the Seljuk state was already on the verge of collapse; and so, it did. Most of their lands were rent asunder and divided amongst numerous beyliks, with the Seljuk rump state of Anatolia relying upon the Ayyubids for support against the mighty Ilkhanate. Fortuitously, the Ilkhanate suffered from its own malaise, rupturing at the seams within mere decades. The hasty demise of their short-lived rivals thus permitted the Seljuks to once again thrust into Anatolia. Establishing the powerbase of their resurgent Islamic realm at the Terminus of the Silk Road, the Seljuks have vowed to reclaim their ancestral glory. Erstwhile, the Turkish warlords scramble to survive the imminent deluge, forging alliances with any who will accept. The Legacy of Seljuk is one of blood and conquest, and if one wishes to claim it as their own, they must be prepared to pay the price in full.
[The Seljuks are a 141 development Turkish Sunni Sultanate occupying parts of central and eastern Anatolia. Alongside the Nizzarids and the Golden Horde, they are one of the most powerful nations in the region.](https://preview.redd.it/kwe8ark5jq681.png?width=1025&format=png&auto=webp&

As the ailing Byzantine Empire's borders receded, threats from both East and West struck with unmatched ferocity. The former envy of the known world now lies paralysed, the corrupt and inept Angelos dynasty steering their ship headlong into Bulgarian cavalry, erstwhile the military junta of Nicaea seeks to topple Constantinople's Roman legacy. To achieve such lofty ambitions, however, the Seljuks and their wayward Beyliks must be overcome, though a Turkish future for Anatolia and beyond is not out of the question. They may have stagnated, but their recent conversion to Islam at behest of the Ayyubids serves only to strengthen the Star and Crescent. With the last vestiges of Mongol rule in the west now isolated, the Ilkhans and Golden Horde may seek to lash out in a final offensive, even as they buckle under their own weight. The Near East lurches toward another crisis; war is on the horizon.

Hello, I am currently searching for books which contain information on how the Seljuk Turks raised their armies and what economic/military institutions governed such a process.
I have successfully found books which detail the above within western early medieval Europe, however I am struggling to find anything regarding the Seljuk Turks with this specific focus.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I would also like to thank all those who commented on my last post regarding a similar subject, your suggestions who incredibly useful.
Historically, Seljuk Empire invaded the inner anatolian lands of Byzantine Empire and established Sultanate of Rum. As someone with 300 hours in this game, Iβm yet to see this happen. Instead, Seljuks split up in the first 50 years and Byzantine continues to expand forever. Here are the reasons for it:
-Byzantine starts with primogeniture which means the Empire will be inherited by a single heir. As a result, the realm never splits among the sons and the new Emperor keeps the full strenght.
-The majority of the Empire shares the same culture and religion (Greek and Orthodox) which stabilizes the realm and reduces the the populist revolts.
-Byzantine has 20k at best and 10k at worst mega army which means no one other than Seljuks can challenge them.
-Seljuk Empire has 15k levies and 25k special soldiers (literally the strongest army) and start the 1066 game by invading Caucauses region of Byzantine which they almost always win.
-Seljuks is a clan government and the Emperor is allied with all of his vassals which means the Empire is always participating in random wars declared by the vassal dukes.
-The Seljuk Emperor doesnβt start with many holdings and there is no primogeniture which means the second Emperor is always weaker than his predecessor.
-Being in constant war without the holdings to support it eventually ends up with stronger duke vassals gaining their independence and realm splitting up. Seljuks never declare another war on Byzantine because their troops are always raised.
Byzantine and Seljuks need to be rewoked together in order to make the game more realistic and stop Byzantine from becoming a stabilized utopia every single time. In my last playthorugh, the Makedon Emperor converted to Coptic and his vassals and peasants were completely fine with it. It is becoming ridicoulus.
Edit: I think the way to solve this is by making the battle of Manzikert a scripted event special casus belli like the Hungarian migration event. It would give Seljuks a chance without overpowering them
Edit2: I want to clear couple of things. The reason I talked about battle of Manzikert is because it is in 1071, only 5 years after the start date. However, it was just a suggestion on how to make the game more interesting. What I really want is a flavour pack to make Byzantine more interesting. I donβt want them to get destroyed everytime, but I donβt want them to succeed every time either.
The meaning behind this is even at some point in history, paper money was considered a crazy idea.
So calm down. Crypto will most definitely become a mainstream currency not too far in the future. It might take some time, but weβre getting there slowly.
Especially now that weβre seeing crypto compatible credit and debit cards like the ones from Binance and Coinbase and others that will soon be replacing Apple Pay and Venmo like CoinOvyβs cards.
Itβs a nice way of slowly converting from fiat to crypto without feeling too overwhelmed.
The Seljuks were the founding fathers of Anatolian Turks but many argue that most Seljuks never entered Anatolia and only sent small settlements, as well as Seljuk's main territories and even capital cities were in modern day Iran such as Tabriz, Rayy, Isfahan, Hamedan etc. And there are about 25 million Turkic peoples in Iran who are thought to be descendants of Seljuks, so is it fair to say Seljuks contributed more to Iranian history?
