A list of puns related to "Rubrum"
Looks like someone left it open.
Ran across this phrase in a 17th century text: "Rubrum autem declarat suum nigrum." The surrounding context has nothing to do with literal colors (it concerns the history of law), which makes me suspect it's some kind of proverbial expression. The author is well versed in scholastic theology and terminology, so a medieval origin seems plausible. Googling yielded nothing helpful. Anybody ever run across something like this? The author is a German from the Palatinate, so I also can't rule out that he's literally translating a vernacular expression. All assistance appreciated.
