Rorquals can be nerfed to the ground, orcas should never be the higsec afk mining boat. Yet i support current outrage and you should also!

>God hates miners, so should you.

But this is not about the miners , rorquals or orcas.
It is about all those things that those changes points to.
We again get nothing but significant nerfs to gameplay that are not compensated in any way.
Have fun hunting bunch of procurers, i bet it will be fun.
Consider on top those facts :

  • New players will be locked out from engaging in high level mining.
No skills, no isk, only T1 or at most T2 miners, people will chase them off out of any high end ore. Newbie will be just one big waste. What next will get this "inject&sell plex" or waste mechanic?
  • Tons of new modules that do the same, but at the end just for each sub item. Why we cannot have just single compression module? Do you really want to have a racial "warp scrambler" that will work only against specific racial ships? (for example caldari)
  • Wait times. Fact that you need to keep a rorqual in a pos shield compressing ore for hours and hours does not bring any positive element to the game it just forces you to have next alts subbed and doing nothing. What next mechanic will be adjusted just to force you to do it this way? So you know ships are using fuel, maybe all what we need is for everyone to have one alt that will sit on some safe spot and generate fuel for your day-to-day use.
  • Scarcity was meant to end. Current prices of some stuff cannot be accepted. CCP stated multiple times that it is going to end and the only thing we got is "sub and inject more alts".
  • Faction ship build cost were not addressed. I want AFFORDABLE and REPLACEABLE capitals. Supercaps i don't care, but dread hulls should not cost more than 1.5b for hull at build cost (you need to add over 1 bil in fit anyway).
  • Have you seen the changes to the ships? Why remove bait procurer? Why so much changes to endurances ... like WTF.
It is like someone had no idea what will be the outcome of all of those changes.

People hate the route the game is moving and you should too.
If you not react all what you will get is less targets and bigger bill for alts that you will need to keep running.

Game should generate fun not annoyance.

Unpopular opinon: the Rorqual nerf is brillant

The Rorqual is impossible to kill without a huge fleet and even then it will often panic untill backup is bridged

The Rorqual is OP, vaporize belt and make it uncompetitive for newer players who don't have one yet

The Rorqual skills have nothing to do with subcap mining skills and it is not a good progression skill wise

I am glad it is finaly getting back into it's force multiplier role

An idea regarding Rorquals and the problem of small groups mining moons

So, for the beginning, I think many in the community agree that Rorquals by themselves are too strong. If you're watchful and under an umbrella you basically can't be killed without backup arriving prior to the killing of the Rorqual in form of a Supercapital fleet.

Now, the solution to that would be nerfing the Rorqual. But many groups voiced their concerns that small groups wouldn't be able to mine their moons for SRP money and personal moons. So to complement this Rorqual nerf and and a general relegation of the Rorqual back to its boosting role (as announced was the intention of CCP), we'd have to look at what worked in the past and how we would be able to implement some of these ideas into a new structure or mechanic.

In the past, before lifeblood and citadels and all of those ideas of CCP that I won't further comment on in this thread, we had the basic POS. It could fit Moon Mining Arrays to passively harvest moon goo from a moon. So far, so basic. But: It served as a content generator, as a lot of high value moons were used to fuel alliance SRP wallets and especially smaller alliances were heavily reliant on them.

In contrast, nowadays we have active Athanors that have to be mined manually. The miner's ship of choice is the Rorqual because of its aforementioned advantages. Or, if they are poor, they will choose a Porpoise with Mining Barges. The problem with the latter option is, that it's time consuming and not everyone can be expected to sub 20 accounts (looking at you there Sjolus) to clear the millions of valuable mΒ³ that a moon pull has.

So my proposition would be: Bring back something similar to the POS. It doesn't need to be written using POS-code, but it should have similar reinforcement mechanics (one shield timer and one armor/structure timer, but without the strong management). The kicker with this structure would be, that it is able to mine the moon passively like the old days, but it would only pull a fraction of the possible amount that an Athanor would be able to (I thought of 20-50%). This would make it able to serve as a content driver between alliances of all scales while keeping Athanors relevant, as moons in an alliance's/coalition's core territory would still be more productive when actively mined, but it gives the possibility of having it be passively mined when you can't afford to seriously protect it. And given its relative lack of effort, moons would again become something to fight over and serve as a content driver.

Old video request- "Elo kills 8 red light Legacy Rorquals"

Hello!

There used to be a youtube video that had one of my favorite fleets on it. I was wondering if anyone had a link or a copy of it that I could keep.

Unfortunately the video either went private or was taken down. The title was similar to what my post title is "ELO / Origin. kills 8 red light rorquals" or something to that effect. This was before I used to keep track of my own killmails and battlereports so I unfortunately don't know what System or Date it was on, but I believe it was Spring of 2019 and during Origin.'s deployment with FRT against TEST. There are plenty of similar videos on Youtube but not the exact one I remember! I think it was one Test Rorq in Esoteria and then 7 W4RP (RIP) rorquals in their old sov space, Immensea I believe.

Rorquals need a buff, not a nerf

The turbokrab era is over. Rorquals were nerfed once in 2019, and then they received implied nerfs with the change in cap production and reduced availability of ore. To be clear, I thought after the first nerf they were still unbalanced, but it was a step in the right direction.

I'm sorry but, I don't feel like glue trapping your 11 billion ISK ship (that itself took months of training and billions of ISK to train into) on grid for approximately 40 hours before you break even is all that overpowered. The days of spending 1-2 hours on grid and being able to make a 2nd Rorqual is over. This is pretty out of balance with every other mining ship out there, which, excluding exhumers, can break even in just a few hours even on low tier HS ore.

I know the general argument for Rorqual "safety" is a big response fleet at the other end of a cyno on demand, but that isn't a feature of a Rorqual, that's a feature of a well run alliance.

Just let Rorquals refine vs compression drama?

Ok this is just a dumb idea but "what if" instead of compressing random ore for hours etc rorquals just reined it / hauled it.

You could put them at some loss vs t2 Riggs structures (10-25%?) Slap on a mineral hold / PI hold to make it a bulk Indy hauler as well as booster. (VS jf's which are 15B now?) that's not a bad deal.

Gives "big groups" options to keep doing what they are doing with titan bridging freighters in bulk. Smaller groups can have a mobile structure I mean its already got an option for a clone bay etc.

Its at least giving the hull some uses since its mining got gutted pretty hard core.

Just a little theory crafting regarding Rorqual mechanics...

While I know CCP will ignore this, I'm just going to toss out some theory craft here.

As I see it currently Rorquals have TWO primary roles, a booster, and a miner (provided by excavs). It has been stated that they do both too well, and that I can understand. If you split the roles into those two distinct configurations and sprinkle in some of the new changes, then tweak it appropriately you end up with a couple different distinct fits. You could work this in somehow like a T3 cruiser, adjusting slots appropriately so it makes more sense, but I'm just thinking high level here and will attempt to define those roles in a way that makes sense to me.

The Booster

The booster is now fit with command bursts mostly in the highs, both mining and shield. Lets ignore the absolute absurdity of the new compression mechanic for a moment and play it like the old rorq compression mechanic, instant compression (but for all ores), requiring an indy core, and remove the drone boosts of the indy core itself. A T2 indy core provides more efficient compression, etc. You now have a powerful boosting platform with compression. Cool. For a little icing on the cake lets say that ONLY in this configuration, you can also use the new indy jump portal (which I love btw), and you can now bridge barges/excavs. Super cool!

The Drone Mining Platform

Now lets introduce a new module, the Capital Drone Mining Core (for lack of a better name). This configuration provides the a similar boost (perhaps a 30% less) to what the current indy core provides for excavs/mining drones. However this is a OR situation with the aforementioned new Indy Core configuration, i.e. its one OR the other. When fit in this manner it removes the ability of the rorq to fit command burst, removes the ability of the Rorq to compress entirely, and essentially makes it a jump capable capital drone mining platform and nothing else. Which also does not benefit from boosts from other rorqs.

Building on the T3 subsystem mechanic you could take this a step further. Allow players tweak these to enable or disable invulnerability core operation, enable clone capability, increase the ore hold size, etc. Each configuration adds and removes a certain feature from the platform as a whole, but provides a LOT of choice in how we use the ship.

Like I said, I know CCP will ignore this. But I am really just making the point that there are many ways to address this issue that aren't completely obsoleting the platform. A lit

I'm thinking of investing in a Rorqual and joining a 0.0 mining corp. It's a very steep investment though. How are Rorquals for mining these days, and now much ISK can you expect to make with one? I've flown carriers long ago, but never a Rorq, so any insight into the life of a pilot would be helpful!

Rorqual optimal mining distance?

Hi, we have a debate with our Corpmates about which one is the best distance for mining with a rorqual. Some said is 300-400m and others 1000ish m because excavators tend to orbit the rock and can increase the travel distance if they end their cycle in the wrong side if the rock. Salty about the Rorqual changes? Rags to Nags has the solution! <laughs in T1 Venture> [PVE] [HARDMODE] [<10M SP] [Alpha/Omega] [HS->WH]

Rags to Nags has the solution to your angst: Unsub those accounts, extract your Rorqual skills, inject three new 10M SP characters, and come join us! Since we don't have a Rorquals, and never anticipate having even one, you can be approximately guaranteed that you'll be insulated from current and future Rorqual nerfs. In fact, you'll be so busy grinding out ISK to buy BPOs and farming career agent missions for Isogen that you won't even have time to laugh at your former alliance mates. Plus, you can use your T1 venture to ninja-mine their belts!

Rags to Nags [R2N] is a group ironman project with the ultimate goal of building dreadnoughts from the ground up, using nothing other than materials we've harvested, processed, and built ourselves from BPOs we bought from NPCs.

"Ironman" means:

  • No out-of-corp player-owned structures
  • No contracts, trades, or market transactions with players
  • Start with (approximately) nothing

The full list of rules and restrictions can be found on our Discord. https://discord.gg/TP66FDgnTu

We are accepting new accounts (preferred) or accounts with 10M or fewer skill points in Cruisers skill and below willing to start fresh with a meta-fit frigate and a meta-fit Venture, but you can πŸ’ͺ if you choose to start with 0 ISK and a corvette and go run career agents and the SoE arc for a fresh start. Or, let's chat on Discord if you have an existing "ironman" account and would like to join the group project.

Open to players in any TZ. Welcoming to players with developing English skills, especially if you'll teach us how to say something funny or interesting in your language. No comms requirements at this time. No activity level requirements. This is hard. You'll probably go at it hard for a month or so and burn out. That's ok, we'll still be here when you want to return.

We are currently stationed in Gallente HS near Amarr borderlands for easy access to missions we can handle in meta-fit ships we've build ourselves. We make regular trips through wormholes to rat, explore, and mine in temporarily connected systems. We will soon(tm) be ready for a move to J-space to improve our PI and industry.
