Failed my annual emissions test spectacularly (max is 3, mine had 6).
Took it to the mechanic who said he would fix it easily by putting some additives in the tank. Later he calls me and says theres a strange sound from the engine that he's gonna investigate.
Next day he calls and says its all fucked and best i can do is swap the whole engine which will be more than what i paid for the car.
I said no way jose, picked up the car which just about starts (sounds like shit, weak af) and drove the five minutes home. 5 meters before my parking spot the car dies.
I asked him if it could be the egr valve but he said no. The only problem i had before this was that it drank quite a bit of oil and made a bit of smoke.
Maybe the additive had some solvent that loosened some sludge it shouldn't have?
Any last resorts before i bin it? Thanks
Edit: 160000km om the clock Air and fuel filter recently replaced. Timing belt is fine.

Is there anyone with experience concerning renault captur 2014 version. Is it a good car? I have a 2009 C3 picasso 1.6 Hdi and i am thinking of selling it to get one used renault captur.

So i'm 6'7 or 200cm and i was wondering if I would even fit in a clio (with a manual transmission which makes it even more of a problem) ? Any tall dudes out here with a clio who can share their experiences ?
