As the title says. Inspired by Worldbuilding Notes' River Valley, this project is planned to be very detailed hopefully to the level of Tsushiman. The name Damen-Rai refers to the two rivers, Damen and Rai, whose names are related to the words for "life" and "love". There is a creation story explaining this in further detail but it's nowhere near done.

At the encouragement of other sub members on a comment I’d left on another post, I’ve decided to create this critique of Katrina Kaif and her fan-club as a separate post with a few edits. This is also sort of a defence of the other working actresses.

It is alarming the number of fanatics there are for Katrina on this sub. It sometimes feels like a bias exists in her favour. I wonder how she managed to even get this kind of a dedicated and unquestioning fandom with just item songs. At least Deepika, Alia, Kangana and PC are playing the game to be considered great actresses, regardless of how cringy(I’d say it’s entertaining) their antics might be. It is silly to even add Katrina to that list of actresses because she isn’t one and has never tried to be.

Even outside of the recent fairness cream debacle she’s done nothing for cinema and women in Hindi cinema. She literally just caters to the male gaze and the only thing she paved the way for is women like Nora Fatehi/Jacqueline Fernandes. She just made space for foreign women (who wouldn’t/didn’t do well in their own countries) who are willing to objectify themselves in a country with a white woman fetish. There are so many foreign women in the industry now, most of whom are not even doing well, but they are willing to take the gamble because the financial rewards for them just objectifying themselves are so high, literally no other skill is required of them.

None of these women would thrive in any other film industry imo, the only reason they do so well here is because the majority of roles written for women in mainstream Indian films are the flower pot roles or item songs.Lolz. Not even Megan Fox could outrun the objectification she was subjected to even though she seemed to really want to be a proper actress and make good films, Katrina Kaif doesn’t even want to do any of that, she would be crushed in any industry that is more populated and required more of her than shitty dancing. And no, she is not a good dancer, she just flails her limbs around. Stop insulting dancers by calling her one, she dresses sexy and does item songs that could be passed off as soft core p*rnography, and none of that makes her a competent dancer so just stop.

I've been saying this for a while now but it appears that, as 5e is reaching the end of its lifespan, there's a growing divide amongst the DnD community.

Is it edition wars? No (though 4th edition did a LOT of stuff that was good that got thrown out by anyway).

Is it RAW vs RAI? Sort of.

The divide I'm seeing is that 'rule light narrative focus' vs the 'rules accurate focus'. There seems to be a growing push to have D&D be this airy rules light narrative story system that's probably been fuelled by numerous actual plays (The Adventure Zone is best described as 'an improv story with a very light dusting of D&D rules').

Whilst, personally, I find that using D&D for that to be...well...pointless. If you want to have a game like that why not use the NUMEROUS systems which are designed that way? Is it because that way you can't say you're playing D&D and thus not part of the 'sphere' of shared experiences? Is it because finding games for those particular systems is harder work than just smashing the square peg of D&D5e into the triangle hole of 'rules light narrative game'? D&D 5e is, to be honest, shit at doing rules light narrative games.

It seems D&D is being pulled in two very seperate directions. Some want the next edition to be more like 4th, more crunch, more quantified rules, mechanics clearly explained seperated from fluff with a removal of natural language SPECIFICALLY when it comes to rules. I will admit this is the camp I'm in so I'm probably biased.

Others, however, want D&D to move in the other direction, less rules, more open ended, more akin to a system like Kids on Bikes/Brooms, Monster of the Week/Powered by the Apocalyse. Now those games are great, I LOVE playing Monster of the Week or Legend of the 5 Rings 5th edition but D&D is, at it's heart, a game about killing monsters, it's why there's hundreds of pages on rules combat and very little on social or exploration (admittedly this is also WotC just being lazy and dumping a shitload of stuff onto DMs).

Yes D&D can be whatever you want it to be but if you want to sit around and tell improv storys with a dice roll maybe two or three times a session...at that point is it, fundamentally, D&D? Not really, you, like TAZ, are an improv story with a very light dusting of D&D rules AT BEST.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Like many, I was unimpressed with the 9th level Swashbuckler ability of Panache for in combat situations. Among other things I did not like that it required an action and normally you don't want a badass focusing exclusively on a relatively squishy player. Then I tried to build a creature focused on panache just to see if I could make it work (another thread) and I began to notice some things that eluded me previously.

(Just a reminder that a hostile creature under the effects of Panache has disadvantage on attack rolls against targets other than you and can't make opportunity attacks against targets other than you.)

First, Panache succeeds against hostile creatures almost 100% of the time because:

1. If the creature is not hostile to you, it gets "charmed" and thus has no effect on monsters with immunity to that condition, but the effect on hostile creatures does not include that condition and so that immunity is irrelevant.

2. It is a non magical effect so all the magical and legendary resistances are irrelevant.

3. It is not a saving throw, so any other resistances or bumps to savings throws do not matter.

4. It is an insight check and almost no monsters have proficiency in Insight.

5. With Max Charisma (easy with the extra Rogue ASI), expertise in persuasion, and reliable talent a Swashbuckler has the following minimum Panache check scores:

Level 11 - min is 23 (all monsters with WIS under 16 auto fail without Insight proficiency)

Level 13 - min is 25 (All monsters with WIS under 20 auto fail without Insight proficiency)

Level 17 - min is 27 (All monsters with a WIS under 24 auto fail without Insight proficiency). at level 11 has a minimum Panache check of 23, at 13th level that jumps to 25 and at 17th level this jumps to 27. This means that creatures without proficiency in Insight (almost all of them) auto fail this check unless they have a wisdom of 16 at level 11, a wisdom of 20 at level 13, and a wisdom of 24 at level 17.

To put things in perspective, a 17th level Swash can use Panache against Tiamat and despite all her immunities, resistances, and legendary resistances, it will succeed 94% of the time *because she has a 26 Wisdom. (Not saying I would use it against Tiamat, but just saying that if she would fail so would everything else.)

Second, there is only a single way for the monster to break Panache. There is no mandatory or optional checks at the end of each round, no legendary resistance...

There are people who desire to return their monarchs and movements like this are most common in Romania, Bulgaria, Iran, Afghanistan, Brazil and Germany. However many ask why are there no monarchist movements in India or Pakistan? My answer is that the people have no memory of being ruled by a monarch (except for the British), however the many ethnic groups in India and Pakistan did have rulers of their own ethnic kingdoms whom were called Princely States. These Princely States were vassals and protectorates of the British Raj, Mughal Empire and Maratha Empire whom all ruled the Indian Subcontinent long ago.

Plus Pakistan and India were colonial creations of the authorities of the British Raj. The reason of their creation was due to idiotic ideological and religious differences the Hindu Indian National Congress and their former friends/hated enemies the Muslim League. The reason these two political parties were enemies was because their peoples were enemies for generations. The Hindus were enemies of the Muslims because in many Hindu majority regions, Muslims were victims to ethnic cleansing and the Muslims were enemies of the Hindus because the Hindus were oppressed under Muslim aristocrats and autocratic Muslim monarchs for thousands of years. This and the Kashmir region dispute were reasons why the partition and the constant wars between the two nations is a thing in OTL.

Until recently I've been referring to an event in my story where an invasion was disguised as a peaceful party by using the word "Trojan". (sort of similar to the Trojan horse)

It has more recently come to my attention that Trojan refers to the city of Troy, which obviously doesn't exist in my fantasy universe, so it doesn't make sense to use this word.

Does anybody have any ideas for words I possibly use instead that don't require Earth context to make sense? Thanks.
