I keep seeing these takes like "they're both the same", and I keep going back to the metaphor of dirty potatoes vs radioactive waste cause that absolutely applies here.

Emphasizing how to deal with radioactive waste is better than how clean Nuclear energy is

I thought of this when reading articles about Nuclear Energy. As far as I can see, they all talk about such a content (the cleanliness of nuclear energy).

I think people are concerned about this energy, because they don't know what to do if an accident happens.

I mean, what are you afraid of because you don't know how to deal with failure, right? While experienced people know how to cope, failure does not frighten them.

Talk directly about how bad radioactive waste is (it's actually not that bad, the movies just exaggerate) and about how to deal with it when it happens.

It changes people's perspective, and when they know how to deal with it, they are no longer afraid of nuclear power.

Why is nuclear waste/meltdown so radioactive when the uranium itself is generally not "that" radioactive

So I've been watching videos on Chernobyl recently and was thinking to myself that I'd seen pictures of people holding uranium and plutonium with just a rubber glove on. So why is it that this doesn't melt and give off such insane radioactivity. But the elephant foot in Chernobyl which is melted fuel is like the most radioactive thing on earth?
