A list of puns related to "Quakecon"
I saw they are still planning on doing Dreamhack in Dallas this summer with some COVID requirements. Hopefully QC will follow suit. It feels like Christmas was cancelled these last 2 years without in person QC! Keep the faith everyone!

I'm not sure why this didn't unlock for me, but if I hadn't signed in during the window to get it, are there other ways to get this skin? I'd really like a yellow/orange rail beam color. Is it available as a drop from lootboxes? Or just completely unavailable? Would love to know, thanks.

My guess is it's an update adding a more robust port but I hope it's much more involved than that. If it's a Quake equivalent of the recent classic Doom releases I'll be happy, I'm not expecting a floor up remaster.
To me, when I watch Deep Embrace vs Raisy, it is clear why Rapha didn't win Quakecon 21. He didn't play well.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSrStulG8LY
- I see his weapon choices, his shotgun at medium distance completely failing (0:57f, 3:55f, ingame time), his dying weapon switching at 6:02
- his not leaving fights when he should (3:41...)
- overaggression with less health and wrong weaponary (0:06...7:37)
- Movement mistakes (2:39), (7:17, which leads to game deciding frag)
- 5:02 Orb against wall
This all in one map. Usually he almost doesnt make ANY mistakes at all. He just made more mistakes and bad decisions this time than normal. His whole shotgun usage this quakecon didnt work out at all.
Normally, when he gets into these problems, he comes up with a different plan midgame and wins anyway, but this time, he couldn't. So he is in fact human, after all. He didn't play well. Is that impossible?
Was it replaced by the Empowered demons?
At home quakecon big dumb
Let this be that. Iβll update as the panel progresses
-Of course, new skins coming with new seasonal events.
-Update 6.6 will be coming this fall
-World Spear and Mars Core Master Levels are coming in 6.6. World Spear ML has been designed with the Sentinel Hammer in mind. Hugo promises to throw more stuff at us than ever before.
-Battlemode update focusing on matching players based on win streaks, resulting in more competitive matchmaking. Ongoing balance, but nothing specific shared. New Battlemode arena is also coming.
-Horde mode will have semi-randomized encounters in multiple arenas with traversal sections between them. Kill challenges (i.e. kill 5 Prowlers) give points bonuses. It will have some sort of endgame.
-The Ancient Gods pt 2 is coming to Nintendo Switch on Aug. 26th

The very first segment includes Celebrating 25 years of Quake with Id Software and MachineGames.
Flash back to an earlier rumour reported by Shpeshal Nick, who was told that MachineGames was assisting in the development of a Quake reboot at Id.
https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/comments/o44v6g/quake_reboot_possibly_in_the_works/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
Seems awfully convenient that MachineGames just happens to be present at the first panel with Id, discussing the 25th Quake anniversary. Could this reboot be announced here??
It could explain what MachineGames has been doing for the past few years, cause if it isn't Wolfenstein 3, then they've surely been helping out with other projects.
The website also claims that these panels will be revealing new info, updates and announcements!
Looks like Shpeshal Nick has chimed in - https://twitter.com/Shpeshal_Nick/status/1425830146179665936?s=19
A description of the "Let's talk Quake" event at Quakecon has been accidentally revealed, which says:
"Quake is back, in this special stream John Linneman from Digital Foundry talks to Jerk Gustafsson of Machine Games about the title's iconic legacy and what it meant to both of them. The pair will also discuss the additional content Machine Games have contributed to this revitalized edition"
https://xboxera.com/2021/08/12/a-revitalized-edition-of-quake-to-be-announced-at-quakecon-per-the-now-scrubbed-description-of-the-lets-talk-quake-event/
It has since been taken down
Unsure what exactly "Revitalised edition" could mean. If it's the name of it, then we can assume it's a remaster, if it's just a general term, it could easily be a remake. The rumour from Shpeshal Nick claimed it was being codeveloped by MachineGames, which is now confirmed to be correct, yet it also said it was a reboot. The wording isn't entirely clear. Perhaps they are 2 different projects, one being a reboot and the other being a remaster/remake of the first game??
Imo even if it is just a remaster of Quake 1, I think this does throw more fuel on the fire of there being a Quake reboot. It means that MachineGames and Id are already working together, just like the rumour said, and remastering 1 right after 2 RTX would be a great way to get people into the series, especially if a reboot takes on the Quake 1 style.
One of the panels at Quakecon had its description removed

A bit silly perhaps, but thought it was worth updating my prior post on this with a new post.
In an earlier post I mentioned how the Myztro QuakeCon write-up included the following line (https://www.reddit.com/r/QuakeChampions/comments/pc4600/did_myztro_just_confirm_qpl_season_3/);
>We are very proud of our players, and we will continue our dominance in the Quake scene going into QPL Season 3.
This has now been amended and reads as follows;
>We are very proud of our players, and we will continue our dominance in the Quake scene.
So yeah, not looking good I guess...
So in today's Quakecon, one of the devs mentioned the implementation of 4* equipment, and seeing how they took very seriously the feedback of the previous legendary crafting. Now to those that are unaware,in the PTS forum/discord/reddit, the push for Locking stars when legendary crafting (essentially only rolling 1 effect at a time) was pushed by the grand majority of the community, as it made sense for you to build your weapon slowly, rather than having it be completely random. Ofcourse the devs had other ideas (with the cores being divided by ranks and all), and between much blowback from everybody, they decided on a compromise (essentially getting ris of the ranks in the cores, and letting us just randomly roll all effects simultaneously).
This ofcourse creates the 4 star issue. If rolling for 3 completely random legendary effects it's awful RNG, doing the same with 4 stars would be worst. Afterall we have all spent the last 3 years grinding for perfect equipment. Grinding all of it all over again because of power crept would suck.
Hence the logical way to handle this would be to cave in to the community demands, and add specific star rolling (rolling for 1 effect, instead of all of them). While the dev in quakecon dint confirm any of this, the way he worded it seem to imply this upcoming change. Perhaps, Im thinking to much into this, but I don't think it's that far fetched, when thinking about it logically.
This is ofcourse all speculation, for all I know, they can have some completely different system in place, with more steps and such. That is all folks.
It's been far too long since we've speculated on which gaming event we next see details about Starfield. Obviously next year's E3 is pretty much a given thing. But, there's a few big events in between now and June 2022.
Quakecon is highly unlikely to have anything Starfield related. They've released the schedule, and there's nothing on there even Starfield adjacent. Unless someone pries something out of Pete during the dog stream. I'm totally watching the dog stream regardless...
Anyway. Then we've got Gamescom next week. Opening Night Live is another Keighley joint. He managed to get the reveal of Elden Ring all to himself. That's a lot a pull, and Gamescom is a big event these days. So, what's the over/under on seeing something like another Enter the Starfield type vidoc?

An archived version of the schedule has this description for the "Let's Talk Quake" panel on day 2:
>Quake is back, in this special stream John Linneman from Digital Foundry talks to Jerk Gustafsson of Machine Games about the title's iconic legacy and what it meant to both of them. The pair will also discuss the additional content Machine Games have contributed to this revitalized edition.
They've since removed this. "Additional content for a revitalized edition" makes me think they just made some 4k texture RTX Darkplaces mod and a new episode, (or maybe something a bit more elaborate, but still not a fresh game), especially with one of the Digital Foundry people there to gush about the original engine and then probably talk about how cool this new enhanced version is.
The Code Orange panel also has this description:
>A live interview with the band Code Orange about their love of Quake and the debut of their take on the Quake soundtrack with a never before seen music video.
I can't really think of a good reason to get a different band to re-record the Quake soundtrack, but a re-release is a situation where it would happen.
Maybe I'm just pessimistic? I don't really see them covering this and a Quake 5 in the 30 minutes they have allotted on day 1.
