A list of puns related to "Priority Inversion"
The quote: >โWeโve been looking through the old Pathfinder software. We got duplicate computers up and running for testing. Same computers they used to find a problem that almost killed the original mission. Real interesting story, actually; turns out there was a priority inversion in Sojournerโs thread management andโโ
This is at Sol 97. Any info would be great.
For example, quick attack will have -1 priority rather than going before a 0 priority move.
Things to consider: -Moves such as protect, endure etc. Will usually fail/not activate before their effect becomes relevant.
-Priority moves are no longer a viable way to deal with squishier targets.
-Teleport can't be used to safely bring in wallbreakers any more.
-Forced switching moves become extremely difficult to counter (e.g dragon tail).
-Instant focus punch lol.
Probably other effects but that's what I could think off the top of my head
I think +6 priority forced switches might push it beyond the realm of plausibility.
Iโve been in a PPR league on CBSโ platform for the last few years and the waiver order is set every week from team record with a โpower rankingโ formula being the tiebreaker. Iโve always wondered, is this normal?
The same guy gets top waiver almost every week. The commishโs opinion is it helps level the playing field by giving lower ranked teams a chance to add players. I totally disagree and others do too. Iโve run hockey leagues where the waiver order is initially set opposite the draft order and then becomes a rolling list as teams choose to use their waiver spot. I personally love this way bc it adds an extra layer of strategy.
How does your league do it?
In my last post of 2021 I shared my concern that the inclusion of the House Amendment to the NDAA (containing SAFE) was an unlikely candidate for final passage. In mid-December Congress moved the final passage of S.1605 to the President for signature into law without SAFE Banking. So, what happened and how can we learn from this experience to better predict the coming yearโs legislative movement? In this article Iโll discuss (1) the lay of the land that led to the removal of SAFE from the NDAA, (2) how that landscape looks for 2022, and (3) what if anything we can predict about the years beyond this Novemberโs election.
As always the following work comes from my experience as both a legislative staffer and outside advocate for issues in Washington. That experience has provided me with a strong lens for reviewing the process and the politics at work which I share in these pieces. Although I will share my opinion on how the landscape shakes out for 2022 and beyond it should not be taken as a recommendation to act in any particular way with your own portfolio. As part of your own due diligence it is essential that you take into consideration the opinions of experts, the objective analysis of financials and any other animal spirits you may deem useful. Also, this piece took several passes to write as Iโve worked hard to offer the most clear and objective analysis possible. It is long, so consider grabbing an extra cup of coffee and settling in. My target position also includes a target angle for the end effector, which i calculate in in forward kinematics by adding the angles of the three elevation joints. The problem that occurs though is that when i set an unrealistic target angle it tries to accomplish it before actually getting to the target.
So for instance, if i tell it to go to the a point (for example (2,-2,0) as showing below) with a Z height of zero and also tell it that it needs to come in at an angle of pi/2 (facing +Z direction) it has a ton of trouble because it's not physically possible for it to do so. Animation.
But if i tell it to go to the same point and come in at a more reasonable angle of -pi/3 (facing downward towards -Z with some angle) it does a lot better because thats a physically realizable angle. Animation.
I've tested the same algorithm without the target angle (which changes the jacobian because the target angle is no longer a part of the forward kinematics) and it works great, but i want to be able to have some control over the target angle.
How do i implement logic that tells it to focus on getting to the target position first and THEN attempt to get as close to the target angle as possible without compromising the position?

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
In any of the Dark Souls games, using an item to invade another player will place you at a predetermined invasion point in their world
In Bloodborne, using an invasion item will spawn you exactly where you used it in your world, but in the invaded host's world (this made for some nice traps)
And regarding coop, Bloodborne will place summoned cooperators at predetermined spawn locations while in all of the Dark Souls games summoned phantoms are spawned where their sign was originally laid down in their own world.
Thought that was kinda odd.
AR here. So I made a few posts and got a bunch of younger attorneys asking for advice about associate life and what makes a good associate. Iโve done presentations at my firm for a few years about how to be a good associate, so I figured Iโd share what has worked for me and what I tell new attorneys.
Who are you?
Iโm a senior associate at an Amlaw 100 firm. I went to a solid school, clerked for a district judge, and have 5+ years with my current firm in the Labor and Employment group. Iโll be up for partner this year.
Why should I listen to you?
I lead a program for new associates at my firm about how to be a good associate, so Iโve spent some time thinking about this. Also, at the risk of sounding pompous, Iโve had 5+ partners tell me I am the best associate they have ever worked with in the last few years andโfor a few of themโever.
Finally, I do L&E. A large part of what I do is reviewing employee activityโgood and badโnavigating office politics, communication breakdowns, stuff that we as associates have to navigate through.
Limitations
This guide is obviously limited and informed by my experience. I do litigation, and I work at a big firm in a large legal market but not NY. Nonetheless, I firmly believe that most of the recommendations here are applicable to any firm of more than one or two people.
Also, Iโm not going to deal with law school or getting a job. No offense to law students, but you donโt know enough to ask interesting questions or have enough awareness of yourself for me to give meaningful answers on firm stuff. There are a billion good resources out there about that stuff, and I want to focus on content that I donโt see here or other forums/websites.

1. Junior Associate
Congrats, you got a jerb! If you keep at it, you can potentially become useful in 18-24 months. These days, almost every new associate is hired into a specific practice group rather than going through rotations in various groups. If youโre at Cravath or whatever, good for you, idk how that system works. Youโll live at the office, so youโll have plenty of time to figure it out.
For everyone else, the politics begin now. Every firm has marquee practice groups and powerful partners, good mentors and assholes, and a talent distribution. Even as a brand new lawyer, start to get a sense for office dynamics:
As a skinny dude I've always wanted a chest. Despite that, my priorities in fitness are efficiency and convenience.
I started in bodyweight by doing some pushups throughout the day. Even after reaching high reps I noticed hardly any visible muscles. I tried diamonds and other variations in hand placement. The minor changes brought minor rewards. Decline pushups could help but the slight inversion, deltoid requirement, and variables in feet/hips/hand/head placement kills the fun without enough chest reward.
So, I bought some straps and tried flys only to quit early for a few reasons. Flys require straight arm strength to be effective while not necessarily helping to establish that strength. This means I would have to gain a capability that I don't quite value before I might be able to perform an isolated movement. Secondly, the ROM for flys is absurd compared to other movements such as a pushup. The arms can either spread beyond their working limit or they can narrow to a point of imbalance. Sure these are avoidable but again the cost is high for an isolated movement. Lastly, I see it as an ineffective attempt to replicate a gym machine so that more people buy straps.
Eventually I wandered into a gym routine and experimented with total body fitness. I decided to work on dips starting with bench, then bands at the dip station, then varied positioning at the station. Then I moved to the rings for support holds, then negatives, then my first few shaky red-faced ring dips.
With only a small volume those ring dips were grinding through my shoulders, so I started warming up with shoulder dislocates. Just like flys, the ROM was silly and the movement felt too isolated to be effective. Everything changed when I started Skin the Cats. Versus shoulder dislocates I was getting a more effective warmup in a fraction of the time. If I focused on keeping my legs straight and slowing the movement then I would also get some chest pump, specifically when exiting the German Hang.
STC let me safely increase my ring dip volume. I was mainly seeing tricep and stabilizer activation but not enough chest. I tried targeting my chest by "leaning forward" based on internet advice. However, I felt no real difference and my form was suffering. When I returned to strictly vertical form the depth in my range of motion began to increase. Beyond 5 reps at maximum depth (hands to armpits) my chest was finally getting pumped. Based on my personal experience I think there is a common mis

Control is Paragon. Destroy is Renegade
I realize Iโm going to be bumping up against the majority opinion of the subreddit with this statement. I understand whyโhell, for the longest time, I was a Destroy advocate and couldnโt see how Control could be considered โgood.โ Recently, however, my thoughts on the matter have changed, and Iโve come to the conclusion that Control (if Shepard is Paragon, at least) is the Paragon ending whilst Destroy is undoubtedly Renegade. Honestly, well-noted issues with the third gameโs ending aside, the inversion of initial narrative expectations regarding these two choices in particular (I think most would agree that Synthesis doesnโt really work well story-wise and kinda comes out of nowhere) is kind of brilliant. Give me a chance to explain my thinking.
Aside from one end of the spectrum tending towards being polite and cooperative while the other is more hostile and aggressive (sometimes comically so), the primary difference between Paragon and Renegade morality is one of priorities. The Paragon prioritizes saving as many lives as possible; the Renegade prioritizes mission objectives and eliminating all possible threats. This is not to say that a Paragon Shepard isnโt mission-oriented or that a Renegade one wonโt save people, but any conflict between those interests results in each moral side favoring their respective priorities. Practically every major decision in the trilogy (the rachni, saving the Council, the geth heretics, the genophage cure, etc.) follows this pattern.
Of course, I donโt need to remind everybody that choosing to destroy the Reapers results in the death of all synthetic life as collateral damage. Assuming you view synthetics as persons (which the gameโs narrative definitely does), youโre committing genocide with this decision; thereโs no way around that fact. Choosing to go forward with it anyway is an inherently Renegade act as you are prioritizing ending the threat of the Reapers permanently over the lives of the geth, EDI, and whatever other synthetic life may exist in the Milky Way. Taking control of the Reapers, on the other hand, causes only the (sort of) death of Shepard. The most lives are saved with this decision, and it is thus Paragon.
There are objections to this reasoning, of course. One is that, throughout Mass Effect 3, controlling the Reapers has been the goal of the Illusive Man, one of the key antagonists. Your allies, including She

CHAPTER 3: FRIEND OR FOE
They ran for what must have been hours, Georgeโs lungs burning with the effort, his feet blistering. Even so, the cloaked stranger kept up her pace, flowing through the forest like a river. He had no idea how she knew where she was going โ everything looked the same to him. Still, the blackened, blighted trees slowly began to give way to healthier woodland. The pervasive mist started to clear, sunlight bleeding in through the leafy canopy, the air somehow less oppressive. There were still patches of wilted trees here and there, but it was far less frequent.
โI havenโt heard one of those whistles for a while,โ he panted, pausing to lean against a tree as he caught his breath. โShouldnโt we stop for a moment?โ
The woman looked around, then nodded her hooded head.
โWe can stop for a time. They will not be able to track us this far.โ
โI have to get something to eat,โ George sighed, shrugging off his heavy pack. โIโve been running all day. I feel like Iโm about to collapse.โ
The stranger watched curiously as he set down his gear, finding a clear area of the forest floor where he began to arrange rocks in a circle. She offered no help as he collected fallen sticks to use as firewood, simply observing from a short distance. He pulled his fire starter from his pocket, tapping the flint and steel together to create a spark on a piece of dry foliage, cupping his hands around it as he blew on it to get it going. Before long, he had a modest fire going, and he set about constructing a tripod for his cooking pot. He filled the vessel from his canteen, setting the water to boil.
Fortunately for him, but unfortunately for his companions, being the designated cook for the group had meant that he was carrying most of their food on his person. As he hung his iron pot from the tripod and began to slice up pieces of dried meat on his cutting board, the cloaked figure drew closer, watching from beneath the shadow of her cowl.
โWhat is that?โ she asked.
โYouโve never seen salted meat before?โ George said as he slid the morsels into the boiling water. โItโs just flesh that was dried in the sun, then salted to preserve it.โ

I know it's been a long time since you've seen me post a DD and update to what's going on in the world of steel.
The rumors of my demise are false and I have not gone into hiding or as many have speculated, "witness protection", but rather I have been inundated with life.
Before I get into what will likely be walls and walls of text, fancy graphs and information that will likely feel like you are being reeducated like this:

I want to touch on myself and this sub.
I have been lurking in the shadows for quite a while and honestly I've started this DD about 10 different times over the past few weeks and just couldn't find the time to deliver something I would be proud of.
Let's start with this sub - I absolutely love it and the people that have come here to follow the thesis.
With that being said, I stated months ago that I did not want this sub to be about one person - me.
My goal from the beginning was always to educate everyone about the commodity I love so much - steel, but it was more important to create a community of sharing and fellowship.
There are so many other brilliant people that have posted here, many with much more to offer and have done so out of the kindness of their hearts and to help others become more educated and intelligent investors.
Sure, we can have debates and argue "Bull" & "Bear" cases for everything, IT'S ALWAYS BEEN ENCOURAGED.
Echo Chambers benefit no one other than people with big egos.
I have also, ALWAYS said, if you have ideas that will make money, share them!
I love steel, but I love money more.
This sub is only as strong as the fabric of the people that decide to interact and share ideas here.
If you want to complain, please do so in a civil and well thought out manner - always be kind - trust me, you'll feel better for it.
Now, before we take the journey together down the rabbit hole, I wanted to briefly touch on my absence from posting.
As I said, I've been here the entire time watching and there are quite a few people here that I engage with and talk to daily.
When I was posting consistently, there seemed to be a lot of apprehension into "if this play is so good, why do you have to keep reminding us??"
I got a lot of complaints about the constant "pumping".
It was never "pumping" - it was me doing what I do throughout my life and that is committing 100%, actually, over

Ahoy-hoy,
Has anyone else experienced really poor performance in ONI in Linux? I used desktop Linux many years ago and wanted to get back into it before Windows 11 was thrust upon me.
I've tried both Manjaro and Ubuntu with the same results, ~1FPS running ONI in 4k, when Windows would run the same setup at +40FPS. Tried all the low hanging fruit so far, changed CPU governor, enabled direct render, tried the native version, and several Proton versions too. Best I could muster was around 7FPS. My i5-2500k and GTX960 are a little long in the tooth but I expected better since I can manage it in Windows.

In some ways, Kirsten and Tylerโs stories are inverses of one another.
Pre-pandemic:
Kirsten was a child cared about, primarily, by Arthur. Arthur adored her and nurtured her career. He handed Station 11 to her personally. If Miranda had only given him one copy, it would have gone to Kirsten. This is made clear when she hands him a second one specifically for Tyler.
Tyler was Arthurโs biological child, but Arthur neglected him. He never called, never wrote letters, and didnโt make an effort to see him. He mailed him a second copy of Station 11 โ an afterthought.
Post-pandemic, first 100:
Kirsten is saved and cared for by kind strangers who come to love her. Jeevan and Frank adore her, despite having just met her. They do their best to protect her from the harsh realities of the world, and she becomes their only priority.
Tyler is living among people who already knew him and should already care about him deeply โ his mother and his fatherโs friend, Clark โ yet they both see him either as unimportant (mother, who is more focused on gaining power than her son) or a threat (Clark, also power-hungry). No one protects him from harsh realities. He is no oneโs priority.
20 years later:
Kirsten is living with only pre-pans, except Alex. She lives her life spreading the word Shakespeare - a major voice of โthe beforeโ.
Tyler is living without pre-pans, except himself. He lives his life spreading the โno beforeโ gospel.
The end:
Kirsten finally gets to say goodbye to her caretaker, Jeevan. Alex leaves her. She loses her copy of Station 11.
Tyler finally gets to welcome a caretaker in his mother. Alex joins him. He gains Kirstenโs copy of Station 11.
I won't be doing that today!
