Hey friends! This tree is in western Colorado, America, it has even pinnate leaves, and a kinda gray trunk with bark that seems to peel off. I canβt find it, maybe itβs not native? What do you think?

Both of these germinated from the seeds of Anadenanthera coloubrina Var. Cebil, but only the one in the second photo has compound-pinnate leaves, the one in the first photo seems to have two sets of leaflets per stipule(?) Is this fasciation or some other mutation?

A small under story tree in the flood plain of a creek in the Piedmont of North Carolina. Simple, alternate, pinnate leaves, with red berries. The biggest one I saw was no more than twelve feet tall. Photo is from today.

I found them in a dumpster for an indoor commercial landscape business. The leaves are tough, simple, fish-tail shaped, with a serrated margin. Veins are pinnate. Alternate branching. They seem to propagate from the rhizome similar to bamboo (I noticed this when re-potting them).

Are all trees with the same leaf arrangement - alternate, opposite, pinnately compound, etc. - more closely related?
Is it a case of concurrent evolution or are, say, walnuts and ash trees (both pinnately compound, drastically different fruits) closer phylogenetically than oak and maple (alternate and opposite respectively)?
