A list of puns related to "Picture Archiving And Communication System"
I can imagine that present-day historians would love to have a record of the calls and messages for the major figures in their field of study (if they don't already). On the other hand, even assuming the data would not be publicly released until well past the deaths of those involved, should there be zones of privacy that even historians dare not tread?
NOTE - This is not meant to be a political discussion of the merits of the NSA's surveillance, nor is it meant to start a detailed debate about what exactly the NSA is collecting and how long they are storing it.
We know some data and metadata is being collected, whatever that body of data is, the question is should it be stored for human civilization to access in the future as a historical record?
Hi Guys,
Context
We have migrated to Dynamics 365 from an on-prem Dynamics CRM instance and we migrated only 2 years worth of data. We are legally obliged to retain records for a certain period of time and moreover the information must be discoverable.
Question
What is the best method of archiving the remaining data on the on-prem system while still having the ability to extract the data including any attached emails etc but still allowing us to decommission the on-prem system?
Doing a lot more higher-impacting projects in my organization and i want to make sure I'm documenting the communication between myself and vendors/support. How do you document and archive your conversations so you or a colleague can review the notes and decisions at a later point?
Here is a thing I stumbled across a while back that I think is pretty interesting and deserves to be archived: Evan Doorbell's Phone Tapes
This is a collection of recordings made by a phreak while exploring the old Bell telephone system mostly during the 1970s. Along many hours of raw recordings are also a number of narrated and edited tapes which I find utterly fascinating.
Here is an example: How Evan Doorbell became a Phone Phreak, part 1
The site is pretty straightforward to archive using wget
:
wget \
--no-host-directories \
--adjust-extension \
--mirror \
--convert-links \
--page-requisites \
--span-hosts \
--domains=download.evan-doorbell.com,www.evan-doorbell.com,evan-doorbell.com \
"http://www.evan-doorbell.com/"
The archive is about 65GiB.
Many of the narrated tapes can also be found on Soundcloud (you can donwload that using youtube-dl
)
I actually didn't think of using wget
at first and spent a bunch of time coming up with this python script for scraping the recordings, which you might find interesting: evan.py. It downloads the tapes in FLAC and gives them appropriate names and also saves the descriptions of the raw tapes.
The bonfires are located far apart from one another, but you can see the fire when it's lit. Then the next location sees the fire and lights their own, continuing the message to the next location.
I thought this was pretty efficient, and saw it as the best form of quick emergency communication without modern technology.
Was this ever implemented anywhere throughout history? And did any instances of its use serve to turn the tide of any significant events?
Edit: One more question. What was the longest distance that this system of communication was used for? I imagine the Mongols had something from East Asia to Europe.
My current setup goes like this
-manually downloading .torrent from Trackers (i need to see the thumbnails ;) )
-manually adding them to deluge thin client on my local machine
-auto moving torrents after they are downloaded to another folder
-moving all downloaded files to Amazon Cloud with rclone via kitty SSH with autoconnect and autocommand
-moving AC archived torrents to another folder to continue seeding
-using Netdrive2 to create a virtualdrive on my local machine
-using regular video players (VLC, MPC-HC)to watch the videos
Are there programs that can access multiple trackers and present descriptions, comments and thumbnails in an organized way and let me download the .torrent or preferably add them to deluge or an remote folder on the seedbox via ftp and then move/sync the files to Amazon Cloud
Is there a better way to move the downloaded files to AC?
Netdrive2 + VLC takes 5-10 seconds until 1080p videos are starting. Is this normal or is there a better software solution
My seedbox is feralhosting Helium
So I recently realized nobody has released the dlcs for the dance dance revolution ps3 game and I'm not necessarily sure how much longer the dlc packs will be online. I'm going to purchase them all tomorrow but so other people can use them and so they can be archived for years to come how do I extract the dlcs from my ps3, and add rap files so anyone can use them? For context I am using a modded ps3 slim with ps3hen installed. Ant help would be immensively appreciated.
