I thought I read about this. I think western United States. The flashes of the cleavage planes from a certain mineral in the sun can temporarily blind or impair the vision of pilots flying overhead. Doesnβt seem like something I made up, so hoping someone here knows what Iβm remembering. Thank you!

Pegmatite Question
Could anyone explain to me if Pegmatite is its own type of rock or a sub-type of other intrusive igneous rocks (granite and Gabbro) and does it every occur in Diorite rock? Doing some research while working on a computer simulation, would greatly appreciate if shed some light on this for an amateur :)

Kicking around a pegmatite today and was bummed that all I was seeing was suspiciously fine grained granite. Took a few minutes to realize itβs all massive orthoclase crystals.
