A list of puns related to "Peavey"
Back in the early 90's I rocked a Peavey T-40 bass, the heavy sucker that it is! Then it ended up in a case and only recently have I opened the case to find the bass in a weathered state. Screws have rusted, so have the pickups... Overall, it's in need of a SOLID cleaning and renovation. I honestly don't even know where to begin or if it's even worth the time and energy to do so. Curious to know from you kind folks what you think. How much work is it to bring this baby back to life?
Here are some pics if that helps: https://postimg.cc/gallery/ft3yL7z
As the title suggests I'm only outputting at about half volume. I have tried replacing all of my tubes and cleaning my inputs and outputs. I've tried new cords. Old cords. It outputs to what I would consider to be not very loud to headphones. I've tried jumping the fx loop in the back. I'm at my wits end trying to figure this out. Any suggestions yall can give would be VERY appreciated.
Hi,
I play mostly clean tones but like a bit of crunch now and then. Also a good reverb. I'm a simple guy I don't need all the effects on the Katana. The Peavey Classic 30 would work fine for my style. My main concern is the idling noise that tube amps make. I record a lot so I need an amp that is pretty quiet. As tube amps go, is the Classic 30 noisy or no? I'd like a tube amp but if its going to be a lot more hiss and buzz than a Katana the nicer tube sound is probably not worth it for me as I feel the Katana sounds pretty good.
Thanks!
Hey. I have been considering getting a Peavey 6505 and an Orange PPC212, But I'm concerned that the 6505 may go over its rated wattage and may overpower the cab at high gain settings. Would this setup be safe or should I invest in a 4x12 instead?
It seems like no matter how I try and set this bass up, no matter the size or quantity of shims in the neck, I just can not get the action right on this thing.
Truss rod adjustments, saddle height, ANYTHING it seems ALWAYS leaves me with mile high action on the higher frets and really low at the nut. I can get it playing condition but I'm about over it at this point. Would I benefit from a new nut or is this bass just cursed? I have never had this much trouble with set ups before.
Anyone else have similar issues?
I'm a vinyl DJ looking to buy a basic PA system for small gigs. I have a bit of experience playing for crowds, but most of my knowledge is about hifi/home DJ equipment and not large systems.
I'm a big thrift store shopper/bargain hunter, and I recently bought a pair of used Peavey PR-15 speakers for about $50. I figure I can keep them if they sound nice, or sell them for a small profit if they're not a good fit. I tested them out at a low-ish volume and they definitely work, but I haven't given them a proper test yet.
Can anyone offer feedback on the Peavey PR-15s, or recommend other speakers/amps I might look into buying? Here is all my relevant info:
-My current setup is two Technics 1200s + an Allen and Heath Xone 23 mixer. I mostly spin house and 70s/80s club music (disco, funk, electro, boogie, etc.). Eventually I'd like to get Serato and/or CDJs, but for now I'm all analog.
-My wife is a singer songwriter and would eventually like to get back into playing occasional gigs. She sings + plays guitar and harmonica. It would be great if we could get a PA that would work for both of our needs. She currently has a 10+ year old Samson PA system that works okay but she doesn't love the sound.
-I currently live in an apartment and will be living in apartments for at least the next 3-5 years (wife is in medical school and we'll be moving around). A more compact system that fits in a closet would be great, especially because my records already take up so much space haha. These Peavey PR-15s are pretty huge, though they are lightweight and easy to move.
-I would like a system to play for about 100ish people. I see myself playing weekend gigs at bars or outdoor events (no weddings). I figure if I want to organize a huge party or rave I can always rent a bigger system.
-While I am a cheapskate, I do have some money saved so my budget is somewhat flexible.
Any advice would be most appreciated, even just resources for learning the basics of shopping for PAs. Thank you!
Any good?
I just want something cheap, but not garbage.
I have been jamming on this thing for 12 hours now and I think that's enough time to draw conclusions. This thing sucks.
So this was supposed to replace my Fender LT25 for a bed room amp. I'm retired from love shows with a wife and kids. I play guitar when she's at work and use headphones if she's home. I used to be in a few local nu-metal bands back on the 00's and I really wanted something with high gains. I have gone through a lot of practice amps and I am seriously picky when it comes to bang for buck. I have gone through a line 6 Spider V 30, Blackstar ID Core, Orange Crush, Boss Katana. You make it I've probably had it. I dug the LT25 with how versatile it is but let's be real here...it's not for metal.
Back in the day I had the first line of peavey vypyrs. They were OK. Then the VIP 2's which got rid of the rectifier setting. Now there's the X. Oh boy, This is gonna be hard to give both good and bad on this amp but I'm gonna do my best so it doesn't sound like I'm deliberately trashing it.
Let's get the good out of the way. This thing is built like a brick. As stated in the header I ordered the X1 and for the smallest of the new batch it feels like you can crush someone's head with it. The quality is very nice but it's weight is something else. More on that in a bit. It's simple to use. You have 4 memories for each bank range in guitar 1, 2, bass, and acoustic. Each memory is presented by color. Green, yellow, orange, red. Hold it down and it saves. Simple.
The amps and effects are plenty. Like each effect has two, I forget the total at the moment, and for the most part sound really nice. The amp models have three channels from a push of a button. Green is clean, orange is over drive, red is high gain. I found myself using the over drive channels a lots it gives you much more clarity over high gain. Some high gain settings sound really great too if you're looking to djent or want something modern. I really loved the British setting on this thing. I got Ghost tone out of the box with barely any tweaking. That's the biggest high point for me.
Sadly that's all the good I can muster for this. The short version is, this is a glorified Spider V dressed up as a simpler Katana. That's me being nice. Some gains on it are very harsh and note separation can be a problem in high gains. It can be cold and shrill in the tone department. It honestly reminded me of the spider V in terms of gain they were using. Be prepared to do a lot of tweaking.

... keep reading on reddit β‘I like having crunch and an effects loop so I am hoping that the answer to this is yes. has anyone tried to Peavey Invective at lower volumes and does it sound lacking?
I've heard good things about these amps (decent high gain tone for a solid state/takes pedals well), but I've never played one myself. I'm interested in hearing the opinions of those who have used these. What do you like about them? What do you dislike? Are they much different than the older red stripe USA built ones?
Is it a good cabinet? How is it compared to a Mesa Rectifier 2x12? I know the speakers are made in China and the ones in the Mesa are English. To people who have played both which do you prefer? I was leaning more towards the Invective because I was going for a more unique tone but I want to hear what you all think!
Can it be done?
I am thinking of buying a Peavey 5150 II from Japan without footswitch with shipping in total 700. I can't try so I am asking if you have/had it and if you had any problems with it or if it is wort it compare to other amps. o mostly play power metal and progressive metal.
thanks
The three upper strings are pretty sonorous, lots of note there, but that low E, mostly I hear a mash of high harmonics, not a string fundamental. EQ helps a little but it seems endemic to the axe, you can hear the difference acoustically. Would a different nut, maybe luthier-made, clear it up? Other suggestions?
Hi everyone!
I've been thinking of the setup I wrote in the title for a few months, but I still haven't made up my mind.
I tried using two amps by splitting with a tuner (just for a test), and of course one of the two sounds came out butchered. Surprisingly, though, I got no ground loops.
Anyway, my Peavey has got a ''GND +/-'' switch that supposedly gets rid of ground loops by switching the phase polarity. I don't know if the switch works, but I seem to gather that, anyway, ground loops only occur in case you plug the two amps each one into different sockets (which I wouldn't), and phase issues if the two sounds are similar (which wouldn't be).
So, maybe I'm good with an EHX Switchblade + (if it's technically an ABY and not just a simple switcher... and I'm having a hard time figuring this out), the Old Blood Noise ABY or the Fender ABY and I don't need Orange, Radial, Lehle and all that stuff with options that anyway I wouldn't need...?
Thanks in advance to everyone!
Cheers!
I currently have a boss katana amp but it really canβt handle the low tunings I use along with the distortion so I was looking to trade it in for another amp. The problem is Im not sure what to really look for in an amp. I asked this question in another sub and was met with suggestions of the peavey 5150. This amp seems to be everything Iβm looking for, but the price is the only thing holding me back from purchasing. Im 17 and about to head into college so I really donβt have that big of a budget. I was hoping for suggestions of some good amps under $1000.
I am looking at getting a studio pro 112 to swap for my katana 50 as Iβm looking to just run pedals for a more analogue sound. Iβm wondering what you guys think of it if anyone owns one and if itβs worth switching over too. Mostly wondering how it takes pedals and how the clean channel sounds. Thanks!
Hi guys, I have a question,
I want to connect the Mesa Boggie Badlander 100 to a Peavey Bandit 112 Speaker as I've read that it is actually possible to do it. Altough I am not sure if anything can go wrong with that and don't have anyone to ask about it really.
Can anyone help me out with clarifyingif it is safe to do it?
I send the both links below. Cheers and have a nice day :)

So it's a weird nut instead of something adjustable with allen wrenches. The manual says to use a special Peavey adjustment tool, however I got the guitar used with no accessories. I recently changed string gauges which put the neck out of whack, and I don't have any tools or sockets small enough to adjust the truss rod? Anyone have a spare of this tool they could part with? Does Peavey still give these out if you contact them? I can't seem to find the tool for sale used online.
