Hello everyone,
I own a Netgear GS316 and I seem to be getting packet loss every 30 seconds using the switch, as shown by testing on packetlosstest:

The network works perfectly when not using the switch and running the test multiple times leads to similar results.
I am currently with Bell and our router is the HH3000.
Could it be a faulty switch? Thank you!
I know circuit switched is designed for voice so there's extra signalling overhead there but I can't find anything on that area for packet switched.

I dont really get why packets seem to accumulate in that buffer over time. They way I see it, if the amount of packets per hour going in is the same as the amount of packets per hour going out, there should be no accumulation.
Somewhat of a beginner here.
On my school network, there is a login page. I was running Wireshark while login in through the page, and found something pretty scary. I found my User and Password in plaintext! Anyways I told the tech department and they were like... Yeah its there problem they should not use the same password for everything. I mean they could of used https at the very least.
This is my question
What would it involve me to packetsniff the whole network, not just the port Im connected to?
Would I have to do a man in the middle attack individually per node, or could I somehow fake myself as the router so the traffic is sent directly to me, then the actual school router?
I know this is a huge project, but could you recommend the attack method or articles related to this?

Since i just started college yesterday we received some basic assignment as an intro for networking. The question is:
In your own words, the difference between circuit-switched connection-oriented networks and packet-switched connectionless networks and why one of them is standard for the Internet.
my answer is the following:
Circuit-switched connection-oriented and Packet-switched connectionless networks are completely different. Circuit-switched connection-oriented networks are more of a physical connection towards the two sources whilst packet-switches connectionless networks are more of a logic and virtual connection between the two sources. When using a circuit-switched network, a certain and fixed path is established between the two different sources, this is why circuit switched networks were used with telephones. If one of the sources in the circuit fails, then the connection is broke between them and to reconnect they would have to make a new call in order to generate a new fixed path towards each other. With packet-switched connectionless networks, when a source in the circuit fails since it is not connected to the network via one fixed path it will not disconnect the user instead it will use one of the multiple other paths that it is connected to. This is why packet-switched networks are standard for the Internet.
Am i missing out on anything needed and am i correct in the answer i have given. Any suggestions are welcome. As you can probably see, writing paragraphs isn't my strong point so don't be too harsh :P
Tip! If you're lagging/having packet burst, turn off 'On demand texture streaming' in the graphics settings, it's on by default. My lag went after I switched it off.
I've seen some people here also complaining about lag but not having it on cold war. This should do the job π Also, COD, you guys should change it to off by default for obvious reasons.
Edit: Noticed there is sometimes lag for a few seconds which is not personal Internet related, even after turning off this setting, just thought I'd mention.
What would it take to make a robust and effectual packet-switching network protocol that has 256-bit addresses which contain no topological information?
The idea is that nodes will hash a public key to derive their addresses, allowing for nodes to prove their identities. Since spatial distribution of addresses will be random, routing information will have to be empirically derived. Additionally, there will be no central governing bodies controlling who gets what allotment of the address space. It would be a fully decentralized and self-organized network layer 3 protocol that could switch packets over any underlying layer 2+ network layers.

I've been playin for honor on my xbox for about two years by now and decided when I got a PS5 I'd buy the complete edition. Well I did that, but every match I play has horrible lag with the same yellow and red indicators, as well wait times are horrendous maxing at around 15 min just to find a duel or brawl. However on xbox 1 I'm having no problems at all, no lag and fast wait times. Any ideas what could be wrong? Could it be my wifi connection or something?
So this is a weird one and IDK really what to do.
One of my clients has Spectrum Enterprise 2gbps fiber. Costs well over $2000 a month.
All of a sudden I am getting intermittent packet loss going to certain destinations. Other Spectrum customers, everything seems fine. Google is fine (8.8.8.8 and various GCP servers). Digital Ocean, Vultr seem fine. 0% packet loss no problems whatsoever.
But Amazon.... 10-15% packet loss. Linode, 10-15% packet loss. Cloudflare, 10-15% packet loss. Many other places I try to test I also experience packet loss, but many work with no issues. Consistently 10-15% packet loss, it's not like it is random or intermittent, literally constant 10% packet loss.
I am convinced it is some sort of routing issue where Spectrum hands-off to other networks, but they have been to my location twice (both times the tech was mucking around for 4-5 hours), and both report that "nope I don't see any issues on our network and everything is working great.
I had to set-up a VLAN and use OpenVPN to my own business to help them alleviate the AWS issue for some critical stuff, but it is really really stupid that it is my only option. I do not see any issues with my firewall, or firewall configuration. Worked great - no config changes that could have caused this.
Unfortunately the Spectrum fiber router is SFP+ and I do not have a usable RJ45 to SFP+ adapter that will work with the ADVA router. I am considering buying it to 100% prove that it is not my firewall (plug my laptop directly into the Spectrum router for testing).
The onsite tech was pretty salty about having to tell me that it's not their problem. I think because he discovered that I swapped out the stock JET ENGINE fans for some Noctuas, but I didn't really want to piss him off further by being argumentative about the whole "as long as our network is fine we could give two F's about your issue". At least the NOC engineer's hopefully can't hear that the router is not preparing for takeoff. For what it's worth it lives in an airconditioned room and runs ice cold. 3x 40mm fans for a ~35w device is plenty of airflow.
I have opened 3 tickets with them demonstrating the issue and they seem entirely unwilling to help with anything. At this point I expect that if I open a fourth ticket they will just tell me to pound sand.
I don't even know where to go from here troubleshooting wise. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
So yeah - the title is basically the post...I have an unlocked Oneplus 7 GM1900 that I've used for years and have been on ATT GoPhone since like 2014.
They keep claiming my phone is 3g only and they're closing the 3g network tomorrow, and what I found out is that they're using some loopholes to kick BYOP customers out of their network. Bought a 3 month $25 plan with Mint and am going to port my number over tomorrow, just wondering if there's anything I should know and how the service compares.
Also - how long will it take to port my number over most likely? Guessing I won't have a phone for most of the day.
I've had a futuristic traffic control concept in my head and I don't know where to take it so I am going to throw it to the public and hope it morphs into something realistic.
Traffic is chaos because it not centrally controlled and routed. With global gps and internet becoming the norm, future vehicles could be engineered to auto switch to self drive and auto navigate when appropriate.
We could engineer "train mode" into long strings of vehicles travelling to common destinations that speed match and bumper draft, or possibly magnetically link.
Individual vehicles need to embrace single occupancy driving that Americans love, but is terrible for traffic and the environment. Ultra light/high performance/ compact electric pod vehicles that are cheap and can park on a 3'x5' chunk of asphalt could be built with high consumer demand.
This is kind of the end all for the high speed rail debate because it builds the benefits of high speed rail right on top of our sprawling American concrete infrastructure, and still gives people single occupancy point to point travel in the same instant decision in how to travel.

So, I'm working on a university assignment. Even though I'm following the instructions "properly", I can't get the network to work properly.
My network is like this:
Printer1 and pc1 are connected to a switch, which is connected to router1 gig0/0
router1 gig0/1 is connected to router2 gig 0/1
router2 gig0/0 is connected to router3 gig 0/0
Server1 and server2 are connected to a switch, which is connected to router3 gig 0/1
RIP protocol is configured on each router as the following:
Router 1: 192.168.0.0 - 10.0.0.0
Router 2: 10.0.0.0 - 20.0.0.0
Router 3: 20.0.0.0 - 172.16.0.0
All ports are on and connected via copper cable (I tried straight-through, then tried straight-through and crossover- crossover between routers only-)
PC1 can ping 10.1.10.1 but no further than that.
Server1 can ping all the way to 10.1.10.1 but for some reason can't ping 192.168.0.1 or pc1 or printer 1
I have tried everthing I can think of, and I'm at my wits end.
Any help or guidance will be greatly appreciated
I've recently noticed I've been having horrible lag issues all of the sudden just on my pc.
I usually get ~200mbps down and have a ping no more than 30. I also noticed this only happens on my pc. all other devices connected to the wifi work perfectly fine.
I'm unfortunately running of wireless but yet again this has only recently started happening.
I've tried updating my drivers, restarting my modem and router, updating my pc, checking in with my internet provider everything is running the same as it always as. it's just something with my PC.
any idea on how to fix this?
Am I the only one on PC getting weird lag spikes and desync? I'm on the US eastcoast and randomly during matches I'll shoot up to 2000 ms ping. I checked my network and nothing else appears to be causing it. I run 60 FPS on medium settings so I don't think hardware is an issue. On my xbox one s I get perfect network performance but I have to deal with lower frame rates. So I don't think its the local network causing it. Any ideas?
As the title says, I wanted to swap to using WETH for my wallet payouts.
I had some questions though:
If I swap from ETH to Polygon L2 or the reverse, will I lose any of my existing ETH that Ive mined?
If I swap, will I need to change anything on my client, or can I use the same ETH mining settings?
Would it even be more efficient to use Polygon and put all my mining into WETH? Some say it is, some say it isnt... I only have a single high end machine doing this, so I dont have a very large minimum payout, making Polygon seem like a better option for me (from my perspective)
My metamask wallet already has some ETH and an empty MATIC and WETH collection, so if I did swap to polygon l2, would it automatically put the WETH (or MATIC, not sure which it is) into those collections in my wallet without telling it? (Ethermine did my payouts automatically, so I dont know what to expect)
This isnt really a question, but I want to know if anyone else has experience with WETH / MATIC / Polygon L2 over ETH, and how it changes just general use of your cryptocurrency, like, how difficult it is to convert to other coins or real money.
TLDR: a working but faulty 12 inch long Cat5e gigabit ethernet cable caused me a giant drop from 350mb to 85mb, and messed up my GFN, for which I wrongly blamed my ISP.
So I had a 350/35 service, but I was only getting 85 down / 35 up because of an ISP issue. 85 isn't too bad though, perfectly fine for GFN which maxes out at about 50mb.
GFN network tester was also saying around 15% packet loss, but that seemed to only be in the GFN tester, and again it didn't affect my games. Had the occasional jitter / blur, but I put that down to cloud gaming.
After a lengthly testing process with my ISP, I finally realised there was an issue with the gigabit 12" Cat5e cable between my ISP modem and my home router. It passed all my checks & cable testing when installed, but somehow it went bad & was only passing 100mb. Both the router & hub & switches were reporting they were getting a gigabit connection through the ethernet cable in question, which misled me into thinking it was fine.
Replaced it with a spare (a sturdy Cat6 cable) and bam! 350mb! Zero packet loss in GFN network tester! Red face for me and an apology to the ISP (!).
The Witcher 3 in glorious 1440p / GFN 3080 tier finally looks amazing. Realised that what I thought was just cloud gaming blur was all due to that faulty 12-inch cable. Perhaps now I can finally beat that griffin at the end of the opening chapter ...
All in the title, whenever I open a game and I run a packet loss tester I get at least 28% late packets, even when I'm not doing anything a simple traceroute to www.google.com will return a few "Request timed out" errors
I'm connected to my Wifi over 5Ghz, router is a TP-Link AC1750 with a Netgear CM500 modem, both have been updated to latest software. If you can help I would greatly appreciate it, even if it's just a redirect, thanks in advance :D
