A list of puns related to "Openstreetmap"
The (hypothetical long term) idea would be to generate CDDA maps from real world places.
The current implemention (Github repo) just generates an empty world with roads. It ain't much, but they are !!!REAL WORLDβ’ roads!!!
"Demo" results (imgur album):
Right now it's just a curiosity and would require a lot of work to make something playable. I doubt I could get anywhere near that point, but I couldn't resist giving it a try when I thought about it. It seemed simple and in the end I was able to make it work with less than 500 lines of real code (excluding constant declarations and alike).
It's written in python but, given the small size, it would be easy to port to any language.
Tested only on Windows, CDDA Experimental 0.E-10010-gd821da4.

This site (maps.ie/map-my-route/) offered creating a route in openstreetmap just by clicking on the roads. You could also choose between driving or walking, and an altitude and road quality display would automatically come up when you added at least two points. Adding and removing points was simple and you could easily add dozens of points, whereas in google maps, you're limited to 10. For re-creating a route you cycled of walked, for example, this road was ideal.
Currently, this part of the site is down. Furthermore, the map always focused on Ireland when opening the website (even though I live somewhere else), and the map display is rather small.
Does anyone around here know a site which does the same (or better)? The standard openstreetmap doesn't offer this.
Please don't answer that I could program it myself: I cannot. ;)
Gamarjoba everyone! I am a Georgian descent istanbulite who loves mapping. I want to share OpenStreetMap with you. OSM is like Wikipedia of mapping so you can add information in it. I am trying to improve (volunteer) Georgian part of the map (also Turkey) that is kinda poor mapped. Most of Georgia need a lot of work. However western countries well mapped, why chveni Sakartvelo is not?
I invite you all to improve it!!
Sorry, utter noob question. But all 3 of these seem to be the same thing, so why the different names? Also, are there FAQs about the interfaces, and how to enter new features on the map, that are written in understandable language for people who don't have PhD's in GIS and who don't understand sentences like "First, reticulate a polygonal corner using the metainformational layer...."? Thanks!
Hi .. How can I use OpenStreetMap administrative boundaries in GeoJSON in wordpress?

Hi there!
A friend and I are working on something to help people search for, filter, and download subsets of datasets.
We're excited to share that we've just incorporated all(?) of the points of interest from OpenStreetMap, broken down by group (from their ontologies here https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:amenity and here https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:shop )
The groups are below, with the tags that went into each.
What do people think these might be useful for? Maybe making your own version of WalkScore? Perhaps cross referencing with real estate listings to find a house that's within walking distance of a bakery, library, cafe, and pyrotechnics shop? LoveHotelMapper.com? The possibilities are endless!

... keep reading on reddit β‘QGIS 3 allows you to easily add an XYZ layer of OpenStreetMap. As you zoom in and out of your project, it changes the level of detail in the OpenStreetMap. I've then overlaid some shapefiles over the top of it.
I'd like to export a map with just the OpenStreetMap state boundaries visible, as that's the most legible for my purposes. But I also need to make the resolution high enough to show enough details in my shapefile. Is there a way to control which details of the OpenStreetMap get displayed?
I just learned about the OSM vector layers. I really want to use one of these for a basemap on AGOL because it allows for a better zoom level than the default map. Does anyone know how often these layers are updated? The one Iβm using was last updated about a month ago. Iβve made quite a few changes to OSM in the area Iβm mapping, and Iβd like to know when those changes are likely to show up on the basemap.
Ever since getting my e-scooter, I've been seeking out roads with bike lanes and bike-friendly paths. I find them to be safer and more enjoyable to ride on vs. regular roads, but I've noticed that many of these bike-friendly routes aren't on Google Maps or OpenStreetMaps/OpenCycleMaps.
So, I've been adding them in :)
It's actually not hard to do, and if you're already doing it, then thank you!
So do your fellow riders a favor (especially those of us with slower e-scooters), and contribute to these maps :)
Pro tip: Even doing a quick Google streetview or close-up aerial map over areas that don't have existing cycle routes can reveal some that are newer than the dates those map photos were taken.
Pro tip re: Google Maps: For some reason, Google Maps doesn't usually list multi-use paths in their cycle map layer, and those paths can often be the best way to get around. OpenSteetMaps is by far more up-to-date in this regard, but I've needed to add several new cycle lanes on there too.
Hi all, I am working on a rock climbing front end for OpenStreetMap.
Find it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.climbtheworld.app
How much time does it take for komoot map to incule modifications made on openstreetmap?
I made few modifications last week on openstreetmap, but they seems not to appear yet in komoot maps.
Thanks!
##Ask us Anything - We are OpenStreetMap Foundation Board
Welcome to our first Ask me us Anything on /r/openstreetmap with OpenStreetMap Foundation board members.
Submit questions beforehand in this thread so that the board members can look into them maybe do a bit of research if needed. The AMA start on the 9th of November on 16.00 CET.
If you want to remain anonymous with your question either use a throwaway or send me a message.
###What is the OpenStreetMap Foundation?
> The OpenStreetMap Foundation is an international not-for-profit organization supporting, but not controlling, the OpenStreetMap Project. It is dedicated to encouraging the growth, development and distribution of free geospatial data and to providing geospatial data for anyone to use and share. [1]
You can read more about the Foundation here: https://blog.openstreetmap.org/about/
###Who will answer your questions?
The following board members will hopefully show up and answer questions about horse-sized JOSM developers :)
This is our first AMA so please be gentle if we make some mistakes or forget something ;)
Stay healthy and happy mapping!
/u/Spanholz and /u/Wenix
Could someone please assist me with some basic OpenStreetMap functionalities? After installation, how might one search for local banks of a certain name, from the command line? Thanks very much.
I got a spam message seemingly via OpenStreetMap from a (non existing) OpenStreetMap user luring me to click on a "profile link"; the link belongs to the notorious domain go.cm-trk4.com , which of course would redirect my browser to some dating site or worse. What puzzles me is that the message is hosted on the OpenStreetMap server, it was actually sent via OpenStreetMap! So, someone can access data on OpenStreetMap without being a registered user and send messages via that platform and I don't know how to signal this kind of abuse. Any suggestion is welcome.
