A list of puns related to "Oil Of Turpentine"
I've been using watercolours for a while now and I'm started to get bored + not getting the effects I want. I hate arcrylic so was looking into oil painting.
And I'm a bit confused on the use of turpentine and linseed oil.
I understand you would use the turpentine to clean brushes, but are both used to dilute the paint/ alter its viscosity? Or does each have a different effects on the paint.
Personally I would feel most comfortable using as little trupetine as possible, so is it possible to just utlise linseed oil when mixing/diluting the paints?
Sorry if this is a wrong place to post this (mods please feel free to remove this post if it is) but I kinda donβt know what Reddit to post this on. If anyone could help me clarify this, Iβd be so grateful! Iβd like to start with oil painting but Iβm really lost and havenβt found any satisfactory answer online.
Let me say up front that I know diddle about paint and painting, so am reduced to searching the Internet for clues.
I am in the process of painting some board and batten shutters that I made (I'll probably have a post after I'm finished). I decided to use an oil-based semi-gloss paint based on some of what I've read (although others say go with latex).
Last night I painted the back side of one shutter. I have very little experience with oil paint, but it was really thick, and after painting one shutter I realized I needed to thin it. Gotta say though, oil paint looks a lot better to my untrained eye than latex, sort of like the difference between good plaster and Sheetrock.
After snooping on the Internet I ended up making a quart of paint thinner with a mix of 50% turpentine and 50% boiled linseed oil. I read somewhere that it would take a day or two for this combination to fully mix, but it sure looks mixed to me. Since the linseed oil will increase drying time, I plan to add a very small amount of Japan Drier to speed things up a bit. I could have just added turpentine or mineral spirits to thin the paint, but I read that the linseed oil will help to maintain the characteristics of oil paint.
Am I okay with this? Can I go ahead and move my paint from the gallon bucket to quart mason jars and add the thinner and close them up, or do I need to only add the thinner right before I am going to paint?
Thanks for any advice.
so i recenty I was gifeted some oil paint, and I used it before too (but i mosly paint with acryl because it's cheaper), and any time I use it I just can't stand the turpentine.
I always paint with either open window or outside so the air around me isn't trapped.
is there anything with which i can clean my brushes and thin the paint which doesn't make me feel bad?
What is your cleanup process like? I've painted with acrylics for a while but have wanted to try oils. I haven't done so yet because of the chemicals and disposing of them.
........which is an essential oil from pine trees. Do they see the double standard? Nope. No, they don't. Another person then argued with me that the kind of turpentine used medicinally isn't the "chemical version." Huh? How can you sell oils without a basic understanding of matter/chemicals? Surely there are other, smarter people asking questions, besides me, a stay at home mom who dropped out after one semester of college.
Steam distilled pure gum spirits of Turpentine has gained increasing popularity in the alternative health community. Since it is excellent solvent by nature, can a tiny ammount ( a few drops) be added to a water base for enhanced herbal extraction?
Owen will basically adopt any view that he thinks is "anti-establishment."
So, fake moon landing, flat earth, gay frogs, fluoride, whatever it is, Owen will by default disagree with the "establishment" (Wikipedia for example) and will gravitate to fringe sources around the web, and he will consider these people "truth-seekers".
Now, to a reasonable extent this can be a good thing. For example, if someone is skeptical of fluoride, and they decide to use a fancy water filter, that's fine. You're probably enjoying cleaner water with less chemicals in it. That's reasonable.
However, we all know Owen is NOT a reasonable man. He must take everything to the extreme. So consider this from his perspective:
He feels like shit due to his general incompetence. He probably does get mildly sick from his crude food production methods, raw milk, etc. There's probably some stuff that he is overlooking because he wants his food to be "all natural" so he probably ends up eating food contaminated with weird shit.
But more importantly, this man is addicted to the Internet. It doesn't matter how much time you spend outside, I'm sure we can all admit that deep down, we realize that our constant daily Internet use is detrimental for mental health. I fully admit that I spend too much time staring at screens, and I'd feel better if I exercised and explored the real world more. Owen cannot admit this.
So his physical ailments plus mental ailments combine, making him feel like shit. He needs a scapegoat to blame this on, so he went down an Internet rabbit hole, probably searching "why do I feel like shit?"
His forum sources lead him to believe he is infested with "rope worms" which apparently according to "establishment sources" are not real and are actually just intestinal lining that you shit out. This leads to Owen being paranoid that worms are inside his body. He fully believes the weird narrative created by "holistic health practitioners" who literally admit they have no medical or scientific expertise.
Think of how irresistable that narrative is for Big Bear.
When you hear "turpentine" you think of industrial by-products used as paint thinner. But that's just what "normies" think. REAL pure turpentine is just very strong pure tree juice, so it's good in Owen's mind. Natural. A "trad" medicine that grandma knows about. What they did "back in the day".
There is a real chance that Owen actually might die from poisoning himself. The people on these blogs say to s
... keep reading on reddit β‘I love that Owen constantly talks about how evil the medical industry is and how bad big pharma is, yet consumes actual poison to cure his homosexuality and βparasitesβ in his body. Even a basic Google search on turpentine will tell you:
βToxic effects of turpentine ingestion include headache, insomnia, coughing, vomiting, hematuria, albuminuria, and coma.β
and
βAs little as a single tablespoon of turpentine can be fatal to a child. Turpentine can cause severe and even fatal lung inflammation if inhaled, in addition to heart arrhythmias. The CDC says turpentine is βImmediately Dangerous to Life or Health.β Even the vapour can irritate mucous membranes in the mouth, eyes and nose.β
Heβs probably going to cause someone to die from his advice to take the stuff. Fucking dipshit.
It HAS to be the pure gum turpentine, DO NOT buy the stuff at home depot.
