A list of puns related to "Monstrous Manual"
I am looking to get a book that improves on the monsters in WOTC's Monster Manual. These 2 books seem to have gotten a bit of praise.
Has anyone gotten both these books? And how do they compare?
So thereβs the black Monstrous Manual 2140B in 2e (and the white version 2140A) that combines a bunch of supplements and the contents of the previous 2e releases (MC 1 and MC 2 plus some of the appendices).
Iβm trying to figure outβwhich appendices / annuals are NOT in the standard 2140-release Monstrous Manual? Hereβs the list:
2104 MC3 Forgotten Realms Appendix I 2105 MC4 Dragonlance Appendix (w/binder #2) 2107 MC5 Greyhawk Appendix 2116 MC6 Kara-Tur Appendix 2109 MC7 Spelljammer Appendix I 2118 MC8 Outer Planes Appendix 2119 MC9 Spelljammer Appendix II 2122 MC10 Ravenloft Appendix I 2125 MC11 Forgotten Realms Appendix II 2405 MC12 Dark Sun Appendix I - Terrors of the Desert 2129 MC13 Al-Qadim Appendix 2132 MC14 Fiend Folio Appendix 2139 Ravenloft Appendix II: Children of the Night 2153 Ravenloft Appendix III 2162 Ravenloft Appendices I and II 2433 Dark Sun Appendix II - Terrors Beyond Tyr 2501 Mystara Appendix 2602 Planescape I 2613 Planescape II 2635 Planescape III
Does anyone know? Iβm trying to collect all the appendices/annuals that arenβt included in the 2140B/A Monstrous Manual.
This was so long ago that I can no longer remember quite what I bought and when I bought them, or how and when they were published.
A flooded basement destroyed some of my original books, and I'm working on replacing them.
I remember a three-ring binder, and I think I remember buying packs of monsters to put in it. I remember that I did not buy everything available, because there were some milieus I never used. Seems a horrid way to publish something, as it would be nearly impossible to keep it in good condition.
I have a water-damaged AD&D 2nd Ed. Monstrous Manual with the white cover. Was that published before or after the Compendium? Was there ever a second hard-cover book? Didn't anyone ever think to get those loose-leaf pages bound into proper hard-covers?
I bought and played this stuff back in the 80's and 90's, when I was a kid. I can't remember much about them, so all apologies if my ignorance is frustrating.
Thanks for your help!
I'm looking for a book with a lot of good artwork for monsters, along with rules for Dungeon World. Has anyone made this?
Hello!
Before I begin here is the GMB document, the PDF, and the Compressed PDF.
In the last year and some change I've been getting into making monsters for 5th edition. It is my pleasure to show you guys & gals the result of my work, with 85 pages, 104 statblocks, 2 variants for them, and 2 templates (one of which is more advanced). Near the end you can find Monsters by Environment & Monsters by Challenge Rating (like the Dungeon Master's Guide's), along with credits for all the art present in the document.
I'm not the best at writing, or image editing (all image editing in this document is courtesy of thewickling). What I can offer is quality statblocks, a vast majority of which stand out from the current selection the Monster's Manual and Volo's Guide to Monsters offers.
I hope you enjoy, and if there are any errors that I have missed, or other concerns, please feel free to comment and I'll be happy to address them.
Thank you!
P.S. Ixor is my wizard PC. Also with the size of the doc, the GMB didn't make the PDF perfectly, so I had to modify the GMB to make the PDF look good, and then reset the GMB. As such I will be fixing mistakes in batches.

I was continuing this seed in offline and died early but tried again im not sure if the seed stays consistent in that case. Im also not sure if demonspawn mutations stay the same over classes but from what I can see they do.
Monstrous DsFi mutations are:
Highlights:
Specifics:
iam still using my 2nd Ed Monstrous Manuals for 5th Ed DM'ing. its better than 5th Ed one since it had stat block with details like "no. appearing","climate/terrain","frequency" etc.
I've been working on this for a year and a half. I've posted some previews on /r/DnD whenever people ask for ideas on how to play monsters as playable races. It's done. It's posted. It's 283 pages of almost solid content.
Every creature in the monster manual as a playable race. No exceptions. Want to play a Yuan-ti? Any of the three varieties? They're in there, and they're balanced. Want to play a Kobold, but don't like the version in Volo's Guide to Monsters? I've got an alternate version that you might like better. Do you want to play a Balor? Do it.
Do you want to play a vampire, but the rules in the Monster Manual don't work in a real party of adventurers? I've got new rules for it. Lycanthropes, Skeletons, Zombies. All in there, all playable. How about a Death Knight? You want to play a Death Knight? Heck yeah you do. They're in there, too, right next to Demiliches.
I refrained from posting earlier because I thought the level of content wasn't big enough, but now I think it's good enough for that, having over 60 creatures (plus stuff like metals and secrets) now.
The concept of the mod is pretty simple: to add as much Dungeons & Dragons content as I can while trying to stay true to the source content. As an added bonus, I did my damnedest to make it as compatible with pretty much every mod out there as possible (in fact, the only way for conflicts to happen is if a mod outright removes vanilla DF materials or body parts).
As said in the title, does the second editon monstrous manual include the monsters in the Kara-Tor, Greyhawk, Dark Sun and Spelljammer compendiums?
I wanted to order a black cover Monstrous Manual. Went to Amazon, found a listing and ordered the book. In the mail today, comes the white cover Monstrous Manual.
Were there any major differences between the two editions that I need to be concerned about?
Trying to decide if I need to return it or just hold onto it.
I started D&D with a hand-me-down set of 2nd edition books, specifically the 1995 reprint of AD&D. Never did I actually have a 2nd edition Monstrous Manual however, we made due with a 1e Fiend Folio and stuff from the Internet until we moved on to 3rd edition.
I have both the 1993 and 1995 runs of the PHB and DMG, but I never got around to getting a proper Monstrous Manual for 2nd edition. The black bound 1995 edition books were my first, and as such I wanted to look into seeing if I could get a MM from that printing. However, I haven't found any evidence that a 1995 reprint was done for the Monstrous Manual. I have found the 1993 edition on Amazon, but that's it.
Does anyone know if the Monstrous Manual was reprinted in 1995 and, if so, where one could get a copy?
Ok, so question 1 is how many monster supplements were done in this loose leaf format? Question 2 is what is the best way to organize it, assuming it in currently incorrect (and taking into consideration that it appears that volume 2 is also included in the copy I picked up). and the Final question is: is there an online resource for checking this book for compeletion and organization or the like? I'm interested in 2e, but that's really the extent of my knowledge.
I have a question about the timing of Monstrous Manual's effect. The card text states after the start of your Trouble Maker Phase. So this would be after a trouble maker flips correct?
The reason I am asking is it came up in a game where someone would use Monstrous Manual to flip a villain face down, then it would flip back up same turn. But I don't think this is right because the card says after the start. The Comp rules have the uncover step as the first step of the trouble maker phase. This leads me to believe that using Monstrous Manual to 'blink' a villain is incorrect.
Thoughts?
I'm not super educated on older editions and stuff but I downloaded the free pdf for Worlds Without Number and i assume i can use old dnd monsters for it
I also assume finishing the rulebook would help me make a more informed decision, but I'm going at a snail's pace here lol

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Kathminβs head was spinning as he walked back to his room. He considered the events of the day. Heβd awoken that morning relatively well-respected but generally unknown in the central circles of his profession. Then, he bumped into Rhubul, gave a lecture on mythological demons, and learned those same monsters were, in fact, real. He was headed back to pack his things to join the first contact team to meet said demons and hopefully introduce them peacefully to the known galaxy. Oh, and he was supposed to do that while avoiding any βunfortunate incidents.β Zhiela was a little concerned about antagonizing a group of beings, sitting on the far Eastern edge of her empire, that folded up a Bramin strike force faster than Kathmin would fold his pants in a few moments. He chuckled.
βNo pressure or anything,β Kathmin mumbled to himself as he walked. Once again, Rhubul was the impetus for a major source of upheaval in his life. Whether it was the tea in grad school, introducing Kathmin to his first mate, or the infamous Orellian incident all those years ago, everything went sideways when Rhubul was around. Kathmin mused, βThatβll teach me to reconnect with old friends.β
He reached his room and entered. Everything was as he had left it, and he moved through the mechanics of gathering his personal effects to pack. Rhubul was escorting Zhiela back to the shuttle. From there, the three of them would hop to her vessel and then make for Roade.
Kathmin pulled up his data slate and projected a map of the galaxy. The Galactic Union was on what was generally referred to as the Eastern side of the galaxy. The western border of the GU was approximately 15,000 light-years from the galactic core and the eastern edge about 25,000 light-years from the core. Much of that eastern edge bordered the Dursk Imperial Republic. Millions upon millions of star systems occupied GU space. To reach their destination, theyβd have to cross most of the GU and all of the DIR to reach the far side of their empire and Roade. Kathmin had traveled extensively throughout the GU with his research but never outside the borders. He casually browsed around the map of the galactic disc. Despite the GUβs age and robust exploration programs, much was

Introduction
''For many centuries, our galaxy had enjoyed a long standing peace. Despite the odd small-scale planetary insurrection or political disturbance, order and serenity was kept by and maintained by the will of the Kachaxian Supremacy.
From humble beginnings as a race of traders, the Kachax had grown to prominence during the events of the Great Myari Civil War (also known by some historians as "The War of the Myari Princes") which occurred in the year 1765 of the Kachaxian calendar (Footnote: For clarity's sake I will be referring to all dates using the Kachaxian Calendar as this is one of the few chronologies to be adopted by multiple cultures throughout the galaxy). Following the death of the Myari Sultan Askesh XX, his three legitimate sons all gathered their forces to fight for the right to rule the planet.
Whilst wars of succession were rare, they were not unheard of and as a result, the Kachaxian Myari Company (KMC) deployed its own private army to secure and defend its assets on the surface of the Myari homeworld. It was during this time that the Princes (after having seen KMC forces fight off a larger raiding force of bandits that had come together to take advantage of the conflict to plunder and loot the surrounding settlements) began to pay off the Kachax as mercenaries. Throughout the conflict, the KMC would hire out its security forces as mercenaries to the highest bidder, all the while hiding behind a thin mask of neutrality which allowed them to keep trading with all parties. After all, each of the three claimants was aware that to directly attack the KMC was not only to permanently lose their highly valued services but to also risk bringing the Kachaxian government into the war.
By the end of the civil war, the KMC had all but established itself as one of the dominant powers on Myari. Even had he wished to do so, the newly crowned Sultan Askesh XXI was not in a position to deny any aid from the Kachax as his own resources and military forces had been decimated as a result of the conflict. Attempting to remove the KMC from power would not only be nearly impossible but would likely deny him vital supplies offered up by the Kachax. And so the KMC were here to stay on Myari.
Over the next 50 standard years, the KMC's influence began to grow. Despite the wishes of the Sul

While you may just see the Chuul as the footsoldiers for an inevitable Kaiju invasion, these lobster-insect-lizards are more than just monsters to be slaughtered. They are a horrifying testament to what happens when mad wizards and creatures from outside our realms of understanding get ahold of a lowly crustacean. From genetic experiments gone wrong to purposeful transformations, we recommend you stay far away from swamps, rivers, oceans, and anywhere else that has a bit of water where these creatures can hide.

Found in the Monster Manual (2000/2003), the Chuul is a creature dealing with an identity crises. Is it a crustacean, an insect, or perhaps a serpent? The text claims the Chuul is a combination of all three, which is as disturbing as it sounds. Trying to describe the Chuul is difficult, to say the least, but here goes.
The Chuul has an outer shell and massive claws that make one think it's a crustacean, while its mottled yellow-green legs and exoskeleton resemble that of a giant insect. If you look closely at the artwork, you can kind of see that the top section of the Chuul resembles a serpent. The Chuul is covered in a mottled, armored ca

Most of this discussion has focused on its player-facing content (specifically class redesigns) which is understandable. Also understandable are the split opinions on the quality of that content. While the iron is hot, though, I'd like to draw your attention to the portion of Level Up's offering that I think deserves almost universal praise: its Monstrous Mengarie.
Level Up's replacement for the o5e Monster Manual, the Monstrous Menagerie is the baby of Paul Hughes, the man behind the Blog of Holding and its fantastic Monster Manual on a Business Card. Anyone familiar with Paul's work knows that he is intimately familiar with the math behind monster and encounter design - just look at all this math!
It is Paul's expertise that makes the Monstrous Menagerie worth paying serious attention to. There are a number of things to praise about this book (including its graphic design and large swathes of its artwork) but I'll focus on three things I think all DMs out there will be interested in:
