A list of puns related to "Marcos Dictatorship"
Reposting my comment to another post to share with all.
Not per se martial law po agad but the same ilk will be at power. Let me explain po.
Please understand that the Marcos martial law was a culmination of the social and political climate back then: dissent was on its peak, people felt a new person should be the next president after the 20+ years marcos was in power, people are outraged by their lavish lifestyles and spending and blatant favors to their cronies, the cronies monopolizing almost all industries, the massive debt we incurred becase of projects whose original funds mysteriously went to nowhere, etc. etc.
All of these are because of the values that Marcos, his relatives, and his cronies live by (and some of which they have been also quoted):
So, BBM, without a shred of doubt, holds the SAME values. He has not apologised or acknowledged his familyβs mistakes. They still live frivolously. They are so alta and rich they have no grip on masa reality. Their hold in Ilocos is sustained by the support of their allies and cronies, made by favors and interests. Sandro, Imee, cong romualdez and other relatives vie for or hold government positions.
Putting BBM in office is putting the same rotten values in operation. Again. Whether or not it will lead to another martial law is not not on the table. But it is not the whole point.
was reading the conjugal dictatorship by primitivo mijares- not sure how relatable it is for the boys to do an episode but would be interesting to hear them talk about it.
This has been lingering on the back of my heart for a while now, and today I'd like to say something that I fear the most:
I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY HOPE THE AMERICAN ALT-RIGHT DOESN'T FIND OUT ABOUT FERDINAND MARCOS.
Seriously, look at what happened to Pinochet. The fucks over at /pol/ glorify the fuck out of him and his desaparecido helicopters. They make stupid shitty memes about him, call him "based", a label him a "commie slayer." It's as if the many people, leftist or otherwise, tortured, molested and killed by the Pinochet regime weren't being considered as human lives; No, they didn't matter "COZ THEY WERE COMMIES BRO HUEHUEHUE." They flood every video about the dictatorship with those stupid shitty stuff glorifying the sick bastard.
Now what does this have to do with Marcos? Everything. With the glorification of a dictator like Pinochet suddenly being "cool" on the Internet, I don't want Marcos to be given the same treatment. I don't want people like Liliosa Hilao, Archimedes Trajano and Boyet Mijares and their deaths being downplayed and being dismissed by many suburban white edgelords because "tHeY WeRe NpA CoMmIe AgEnTs". And with the Marcos propaganda machine on the Internet still up and running, I don't want these bunch of shitty people having their short-sighted and terrible opinions being validated by the Marcos propagandists. Could you imagine edgy neo-Nazis unironically shouting "Marcos parin mga ulol!" on a YouTube comment section?
What do you guys think?
I'm trying to compile a list of credible articles on the Marcos regime to thoroughly read and show to my pro-Marcos colleagues as evidence of the corruption present during his dictatorship. Would love to know your suggestions!
Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask. I know this is a heated topic. As you can probably guess I am very against the dictatorship the Philippines suffered due to the Marcos' abuses of martial law and human rights. My cousin however recently surprised me by using the usual excuses saying it was falsely covered and he was just doing it to 'discipline the people'. He is a massive reader though and I'd like to know if anyone has a book which covers this topic well as it disappointed me quite a lot especially as he knows I am law student currently specialising in human rights. Any help would be appreciated.
A few days back I put up a thread, wondering why we never got a post WW2, Manila Tribunal style trials for anybody and everybody who committed crimes during the Marcos years.

This got me thinking and reading. Long story short, the main reason why nobody ever got punished is because the perpetrators of the Marcos atrocities are the very same people who propped Cory Aquino up as president.
There's a difference between a coup and a revolution. A coup replaces the head of state but retains pretty much everything else, while a revolution completely upends the system of governance to be replaced by another. EDSA was not a revolution. It was a coup. After she came to power, the people who were under Marcos simply shifted allegiance to Cory.
The events prior to and during EDSA was nicely if a bit incompletely depicted in this article: http://www.positivelyfilipino.com/magazine/2013/2/77-hours-the-behind-the-scenes-at-the-1986-edsa-people-power-revolution
Corroborated by other sources, basically, the original plot was to go to Malacanang, depose or outright kill the Marcoses and then have Enrile and his cadre rule as a junta.
The coup failed and as a desperate move, they channeled popular support via Cory and Cardinal Sin, which turned out to be more than just a reprieve for them. The US, waiting for a chance to ditch Marcos, bit at the proposal of Cory's camp to have her recognized as president instead and have Marcos flown out of the country.
In the chaos of the situation, former marcos supporters: uniformed men, politicans, businessmen threw their lot with Cory at the last minute, which solidified the power base of the new Cory administration.
Now as the new management, how will you try and punish the very people ensuring that your rule will not crack into factions or even civil war? You don't. You pretend that somehow Marcos was the single source of evil in the country and that EDSA miraculously removed all the sins of everybody else around you.
Here's a short list of the personalities who were in EDSA.

A lot of them have been anti-Marcos a long time already, but see how many were last minute additions.
You can also check the Rolex 12 (closest Marcos aides) and where they and their families are now. They walked off practically unscathed. https://e
