A list of puns related to "Londonderry"
Anyone looked at the city walls recently? The stone is more less black and covered in moss and shit, shipquay gate is especially bogging.
The guildhall is green with moss as well on the front, what happened to the regular powerhosing or sanding of these monuments? They really need a bit of maintenance lol, anyone else noticed this?
Edit: do monuments in other towns/cities in NI get regular cleaning? Is DC and strabane council just particularly behind?
As a Derry Man it was pre destined that I would love Halloween, And last year when the festivities were cancelled I found myself researching just HOW Derry became the biggest and best Halloween celebration in the world.
Halloween's origins date back over 2,000 years to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (sow-in), when, according to tradition, the ghosts of the dead returned to walk the earth before a new year began for the Celts on 1 November.
Derry back then was little more than a mucky path, a few huts and a small Dock, but the river allowed access to the Northern Territory by Sea and situated 5 miles from the rivers edge was the Celtic Ring Fort of Grainan.
Samhain and other Holy dates would be celebrated here, as Celts arrived up the Foyle from around the Island Derry itself would already be a meeting point for people celebrating the festival.
Fast forward a few Thousand Years, The ancient Samhain traditions are passed down in word and legend, families emigrated to the States and the americanisation of Halloween is born.
Back home our Grandparents would tell us stories of Halloween from their youth, Carved turnips on doorsteps to ward off the old spirits, telling scary stories and eating monkey nuts and people knocking around houses in home made costumes of spirits long forgotten, costumes made in Shirt Factories.
Shirt Factories played a large part in Derrys history and also in Derrys Halloween.
With ready access to Factory machines and materials Derry women took to creating their own costumes for their families, and in typical N.I fashion, they didn't want to be out done by her down the road. Creating more elaborate and fun costumes year on year people in factory clubs and community groups throughout the city would join together and have costume competitions, and then eventually a costume parade through the city every Halloween night.
It wasn't until 1986 did Derry Council actually decide to make the Costume meet an event.
They had one small stage in the Guildhall Square, 2 bands, a tape deck hooked up to an old PA from the Embassy and someone selling sausages.
Each year it grew, Fireworks were added, the parade attracted theatre and stage groups from throughout the country and once again, Like the times of old, people were coming from all over Ireland to celebrate Samhain on the banks of the river.
In recent Years Derrys renowned love for Halloween has been recognised globally, with USA Today naming it the number 1 Halloween destinati

My fiance and I just got our boosters from this pharmacy:
V-Care Pharmacy β A Caring Full Service Pharmacy (myvcarepharmacy.com)
I have no relation or affiliation with them, but they got us in next day for boosters while every CVS, Walmart, Riteaid, Walgreens etc that I checked was booked out for weeks. They still have lots of appointments available so I figured I'd share.
Finished the story a month ago. Been watching rdr vids on YT and Iβve seen vids of the bit of the story where you gotta chase down a debtor,Arthur Londonderry (whose dead,) for Leopold Strauss. After you find out heβs dead, Arthur goes to his ex wifeβs cabin and has a conversation with her. Thing is that I donβt remember any of this from my play through. Donβt remember the Londonderry thing in the mine, talking to his wife, or even Arthur kicking out Strauss. Only memorable bit about Strauss I remember is Charles telling John in the epilogue something along the lines of βStrauss died in jail, but he didnβt say a thing. Some people Are strong in ways you donβt seeβ. But I donβt remember the other stuff I mentioned. Is it possible that I didnβt play through this because of some choices o made earlier in the story?
"The climate crisis is one of the most pressing issues we face. It is important that, not just for us, but for our children and the generations that will come after, that Northern Ireland elects politicians who have a will and a way to fight global warming and ensure that emissions are kept below 1.5C of warming.
Coalition!NI has a strong plan that will ensure a stable transition for Northern Ireland into a low-carbon economy. One of the key things we would like to achieve is a legislative target - 50% emissions reduction from 1990 levels by 2025, and net zero emissions by 2040. These are targets that, thankfully, we are well on our way to achieving, but we believe it is crucial that it be put into law and that these targets be set to hold our politicians accountable.
But how, you might ask, do we actually want to achieve these goals? A very valid question. We can't phase out fossil fuels without a renewable alternative. We will introduce subsidies and incentives for rural communities to produce their own renewable energy, such as solar or wind. This can work on either a community level - say, a local group - or on an individual level - empowering individuals to install their own solar panels and play their part in our transition.
We also want to ensure that Northern Ireland leads the way in terms of green energy. We will scrap undue red tape that restricts the development or installation of renewable energy. Ocean and tidal energy is also something that we believe could be a renewable game-changer for Northern Ireland - we will investigate potential sites and uses it may have, and invest in ocean and tidal projects.
We will ban the incineration of waste in favour for more renewable alternatives. Incineration, per unit of electricity, actually emits far, far more than coal power plants, and is also significantly more toxic. We will also finally legislate a ban of petrol and diesel cars by 2030, in line with national laws.
To conclude today, this is an issue of which the scale is large. Solving it requires big thinking and big changes, and the clock is ticking every second, minute, and day that we do not act. Coalition!NI has the fresh ideas, innovation, and know-how that Northern Ireland needs to get us out of this mess and rapidly reduce emissions. It is not only our duty to do so for future generations, but by investing in renewables and green energy now, we can make Northern Ireland a global leader in this field, and greatly enrich our communities.

It has been 49 years, 10 months and 8 days since they were so brutally murdered by paratroopers in the streets of Derry. They were unarmed, they were no threat, they were shot for the crime of protesting against a system which oppressed fellow Catholics of mine for the crime of being Irish, for the crime of being a member of a different church, for the crime of wishing reunification with the rest of Ireland. We must never forget their names or the reason why their blood flew on the streets of Derry. We must never give up our fight for justice when it comes to their deaths, to the suffering inflicted upon their families or the loss of the whole Catholic community of Northern Ireland.
I bring up their names today because the Ulster Unionist Party and Ulster Workers Party think that the people who murdered them five decades should walk free despite the crimes they have committed. The member of the UUP running for the Derry/Londonderry and Tyrone North constituency has said that we should honour those who fought to maintain the union by forcing Westminster to maintain the Union βat all costsβ and βfighting againstβ any attempt to hold border poll or cede sovereignty to βRome or the Republic.β In doing so, the UUP has committed to ripping up the Good Friday Agreement and implied they are willing to go to any length to stop any reunification of this country, presumably including violence, as seen by their admiration for terrorists such as the UVF or the UDA.
When David Trimble and Derryβs own John Hume worked together to bring peace to this country, I donβt think either of them could have imagined that the UUP would end their support of their agreement after 23 years of tension, but peace. It is a peace that survived many years of direct rule from Britain, multiple DUP First Ministers and B
