monogatari being monogatari always has a deeper meaning than what is being presented.
When i watched mayoi jiangshi, the point nisio isin tried to bring to light wasn't all that clear to me. when you look at the ark superficially as someone binging the anime, it looks as if its a character development stage showing how much meeting hachikuji changed Araragi's life.
But if you ponder on it more, in my opinion it opens up a few things;
The first actually showing "anime protagonist side" of Araragi. Koyomi is someone who always tries to take all of the pain of anyone he cares about on himself without trying to address the root cause of the problem: a character which is constantly proven to be a liability in every ark at the end when the problem is solved by oshino memes way "by saving themself". In the jiangshi ark, yet again Koyomi tries to save Mayoi without actually considering if Mayoi was happy about turning into an apparition, which in the end is revealed she is.
The second being how the "presence" of someone affects people around them. How the presence of one person in Koyomi's life affected him and everyone around him. And how meeting koyomi changed shinobu's perspective of her life.
Then again, monogatari being monogatari totally depends on the perspective of the viewer. The subtlety of Nisio Isin is to make even the protagonist to be the antagonist in the eyes of the viewers. So Id like to see the spectrum of opinions you guys have on this amazing ark in the legendary series which is monogatari.
(p.s I think the fact that for subreddit of a series which is 10 years old to be as active as it is shows how much it speaks to the hearts of the fans is amazing and i hope it lasts forever. Also pls dont pay any mind to any grammar and punctuation mishaps my english is not that great)
I remember a manga from around the early 2000s. A coffin is open on tv/broadcasted and a girl jiangshi awakens and hops around. I don't remember much else but there was also a scene where she falls asleep and the MC piggy backs her
I am watching the anime in novel release order and just finished Sodachi Lost.
However, Mayoi Jiangshi, set sometime in August, begins with Araragi talking to Ougi about traffic lights. Then, in Ougi Formula, set in October, it shown that Ougi just joined 10th grade and is introduced by Suruga.
So what is this? How did Araragi meet Ougi before she was introduced to him? Or is it just some random encounter? Or maybe it is explained later but I haven't reached there yet, so please include spoiler tags if necessary. (Just consider anything after Sodachi Lost to be spoilers for me).
