Why don't writers and directors adapt from Indian literature?

There are so many classic novels and short stories written by Indian authors. Why doesn't the industry adapt and present our tales to the world, rather than making hagiographies (that's what Bolly biopics actually are) and remakes of remakes?

Who are the "Wild Tribes" encountered in Classical Indian Literature?

Whenever I read literature such as the Ramayana, Mahabharata, Kautilya's Arthashastra and so forth, they sometime describe "wild tribes" of people in the forest. I assume that they are what remained of the non-Vedic autochtonous inhabitants of the Indian Subcontinent which haven't been integrated by the migrating Indo-Aryans, but what strikes me is that there are so many of them.

What do we know about the ethnic and linguistic identities of these peoples? Are they speakers of Dravidian, Mon-Khmer or even Sino-Tibetan languages? Do the numerous references to these tribes point to an ongoing process of conflict and integration of Vedic culture when these works of literature were written? If so, I am interested in how these tribes became "Sanskritised" over time.

Indian Literature

I love reading fiction novels where the story takes place in different countries. While it may be fiction I get a shallow gilmpse into the history said country, such as "What is the What" by Dave Eggers that takes place in Sudan; "A Thousand Splendid Suns" and "Kite Runner" by Khaled Hoessini that takes place in 20th century Afghanistan

I'm particularly interested in Indian novels. "Siddhartha" by Herman Hesse and "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel are incredibly great reads but were both written by non Indian authors.

"A Fine Balance" by Rohinton Mistry is one of the best novels I have ever read. Beautifully written by Mistry, it tells about four different characters with completely different status and backgrounds bonding together during India's political turmoil. Although it is fiction it's a really interesting way to learn about India's history and social climate in a way my parents are not able to explain. I also find it to be more palletable than a non fiction book.

What are your favorite reads that take place in India or that are written by Indian authors. Feel free to tell me what you enjoy about the books and why. Thanks in advance.

Indian literature: Adaptation needed.....

Tumbbad is a modern bollywood cult classic known for revolutionizing the horror genre in bollywood. The film is inspired by the "Shapath" a lovecraftian horror/historical fiction story by popular Marathi horror writer Narayan Dharap. Netflix's webseries Ray is based on Bengali short stories written by maverick storyteller Satyajit Ray. Devdas, Pinjar, Balika Badhu, Sahib Biwi aur Ghulam, Pather Panchali, Shatranj Ke Khiladi, The Namesake and so many great films are based on famous novels both regional and in Devnagiri. Indian literature is so deep. Full of great writers with wild imaginations. Instead of remaking 90's films Bollywood shall look there. They would find a goldmine. Tamil , Marathi and Bengali industries have constantly adapted from regional novels, novellas, short stories etc creating masterpieces. Bollywood should take a lesson. They need to look below at the mines of ideas our writers have penned.

Which Indian novel, short story, novella or even comicbook/ Graphic novel do you want a hindi adaptation of? You can also write your preferred director and actors. Think hard and comment below.....

Any great Indian horror literature recommendations?

Can't find reallyyyyy good Indian horror novels. Most of what horror I have read, were short stories anthologies, some good, some stale. I still crave more

Any language would do, I can read Hindi and English, but I can wait for translations.

I request you to suggest me what you have found and what others have found in this obscure well of Indian horror literature.

Edit: If possible, let the books be ones created by Indians
