A list of puns related to "Incontinent"
Doesnβt that mean when mostly old people canβt hold anymore their bathroom needs? Why does he say it while enjoying his breakfast?
Hi all, new grad nurse here (June 2021). I'm in a medsurg unit and have only had experience with male Foleys and fairly straightforward female insertions thus far. But as the title says, I had a situation where I had to insert a Foley in a female patient who was very medically complex. Along with having dementia, she was also totally incontinent of stool and on contact precautions due to severe diarrhea/C Diff ruleout. She was also retaining urine and hadn't voided in 18 hours with a ~500mL bladder scan. The second we spread her legs for Foley insertion, she started having a BM which of course flowed over her genital area. This happened 3 times with my supervising nurse and I needing to clean her and re-apply betadine each time.
When we got to our third Foley kit, after over half an hour in the room, my supervisor told me to just "go for it" regardless of what happens... and sure enough she has another BM, which goes all over her genitals and the Foley tubing itself, while I'm inserting it. I initially stop because I'm worried about giving her a UTI, but my supervisor encourages me to go for it anyways. The Foley works, we're able to secure it in place, but I still feel so guilty. I know that I inserted fecal matter into her urethra, and given her fragile state, almost surely seeded a UTI. But apart from calling the physician for a rectal tube order, I don't know how else I would've done this. I'd really like to seek some help from another experienced RN about how to handle this situation. Should I have aborted the insertion and called for a rectal tube given her diarrhea? Should I have tried again with a fourth or fifth clean Foley, even though I had other patients calling? I just feel like such a bad nurse, and like I harmed this poor woman instead of helping her when she needed it the most.
Hi all, wanted to say hi and start being active with an incognito new profile for privacy. Iβm not incontinent but my 15 year old son is, so looking to share experiences and help support him as best I can. Would love to learn from you all and find support from people who understand. Feel free to ask me anything.
Hello everyone! I was hoping to brainstorm with you about possible causes of my intermittent incontinence. I already have a doctor's appointment booked, but I want to prepare a little so we can rule things out quickly.
First off, here is a little background about me and the symptoms I'm experiencing. I'm a 21F nursing student who has been diagnosed with social anxiety and depression. I'm currently taking 75mg sertraline (antidepressant) which is managing my mental illnesses well. I'm sexually active and have a copper IUD. I started having the uncontrollable urge to urinate at random, sporadically, suddenly, and for 3-5 hours at a time around 2 years ago. The first time was when I was really nervous about a midterm. 6 months later, it happened again during my 3rd hospital shift as a student nurse (I was so nervous!). It happened again a few months later when I was watching a scary movie with friends and had to excuse myself every 10 min. Most recently, I woke up this morning and was incontinent as I walked to the toilet. I had to meet up with friends so I sucked it up and went to buy incontinence pads. It worked very well. I dribble a little each time.
I've previously had an UTI 3 years ago and it feels very different to how I feel now. I do not experience a burning sensation when I urinate, and my urine is clear. It's a bit on the yellow side (so I'll increase my water intake).
Any thoughts about what it could be? I thought it was just an overactive bladder from my anxiety, but I was completely calm today. I appreciate your help in advance!
Iβm going to be staying with a friend and family member for about a week. Iβm incontinent (neurogenic bladder) and wear adult briefs 24/7, they do not know and Iβm wondering if I should say something. Do they need to know? Obvious issues that come to kind are, disposal, and if they will think something is amissβ¦β¦. Iβm 38, male and carry a small βdiaper bagβ which resembles a draw string bag.
Would you notice? Would you want to know? How would you handle it!! Any advice or opinions are appreciated!
Basically have to be in a wheelchair to get around, but have full control over your bowels and genitals, or be able to walk fine but be incontinent and unable to have sex at all
Currently we have carpet that needs to be replaced anyway. We are looking at a new flooring option that is waterproof/water resistant. My dog is incontinent and pees about 20 times a day. Sometimes it's a lot and sometimes its just a few drops. We currently deep clean the carpet every other week and are looking to keep up the same level of maintenance for a non-carpet option.
What would be the best floor option for us? We were thinking hardwood but worried that she would destroy the wood.
Edit: thanks for the suggestions for lpv. Can anyone tell me how this looks and feels? I am concerned it might look cheap.
That was until I learned how disgusting they get when a patient has explosive diarrhea. I had to pull what I can only describe as a βpoopsicleβ out of my patientβs labia yesterday. Not sure why I didnβt think of this as a possible issue that could arise, but theyβve lost their appeal to me now, lol.
But Iβm curious though, what is something you used to think was really cool, but was ruined once you got to clinicals or started working with patients?
Every time I try to create a realistic character, I just end up shitting myself uncontrollably.
His incontinence is mainly poos - he now has just a few seconds warning & then poos. So heβll be laid down then suddenly stands up & poos immediately.
With urine he was only incontinent at night & did it away from his bed.
Now heβs started wetting his bed at night.
His mind is good - heβs still learning new things.
Fitness wise heβs very fit on walks, but he can no longer go up the stairs in our house, so sleeps & lives downstairs.
The vet has checked him for dementia, tried dementia medication. They checked him for a slipped disc that might be affecting his continence. They checked the tone of his bum muscles. All of that was ok, no issues.
He was a racing dog which we adopted, so was neutered before we got him. I have read that testosterone replacement can stop incontinence, as itβs often caused by weakening muscles in the pelvic floor.
Is that true?
What have you found has helped or cured incontinence?
Iβm feeling very sad seeing him decline like this :(
My male dog is urine incontinent. He whereβs belly bands but we are struggling significantly with pressure sores and and skin break down at the edge of the diaper, that sits over his penis. We tried diapers without elastic, but they donβt stay up. We tried putting a cloth there to offer more padding but it didnβt help. I got bigger diapers for him and keep them as loose as humanly possible. Like I can lift it up like four to five inches before they really stretch. But he is still struggling. Itβs red and he has very small open sores and a scab there now. I currently have him naked and am just dealing with the urine everywhere, to hopefully give his skin a chance to heal. But I donβt know what to do! How do I keep him from getting the sores when he does where the diapers? Does this happen to anyone else??
I have been a medical mental health patient for over a decade. Since a brain injury in 2012 I have needed normal medication management. At the beginning it was more medically to treat my TBI but now itβs become just me being a mental health patient. I have faced many tribulations and difficulties in life since my brain injury (not that itβs the sole cause but it definitely amplified them) There was a period of like a year I was on a much larger dose of this same med, it was prescribed because I was in a crisis and needed to stabilize and didnβt want to receive IP treatment (I didnβt that time) I havenβt stopped taking all my medications, just this particular antipsychotic and subsequently haad stopped taking a anti incontinent medication I started to need, I think as a direct result of being too sedated from the antipsychotic. I still take my antidepressant and mood stabilizer. Last time I talked to my doctor he was fine with me stopping the antipsychotic (I thought I was maybe pregnant) but turned out Iβm not and but now Iβm seeing maybe that antipsychotic just wasnβt a good fit because it was giving me a huge unwanted side effect or incontinence.
I just need to vent so here goes. Our 8 months old puppy is suffering from incontinence after her spay. After a full urinalysis, culture, plus ultrasound the vet is still unsure of whatβs happening. We keep having to chase the vet for appointments and now our usual vet is on holiday until next month so we have to wait another 2 weeks to just have a discussion about what to do next. The temporary vet called and said well if it was my dog Iβd just wait because spaying is a big procedure and every dog reacts differently. Then I asked have you ever seen or heard of this complication? She said NEVER. Iβm so devastated for the puppy as she hates her diaper and we have to clean her private area ALL THE TIMEπ₯² Feel like Iβm a straw away from another break down.
Due to my poochβs accident he has issues feeling his back end. Resulting in him being incontinent. He wears diapers almost all of the time for his urine. But I have not found a good diaper solution for his #2 problem.
I also wanted to share that I have a male dog. And big sized childβs diapers work to catch his urine and are wwwaaaaayyyy cheaper then dog diapers.
