I am a big Carl Sagan fan so I decided to give his son's book, Idlewild a chance. The novel consists of three pieces, I've read the first, which had an interesting spin about living in a simulation but I am now stuck with the second book of the series and it is the first sci-fi book where I am not sure whether I will be able to finish it. I am halfway through the book and still there is no story line. Does it get better or is the whole book like this?
Iβve been an Outkast fan for a long time. I even saw the movie Idlewild in the theater when it came out.
Having said that, Iβve always avoided this album because it has a bad reputation. Most people say itβs their worst album and some people donβt even consider it an album (Iβd say itβs actually more of an album than a soundtrack cuz the music thatβs actually in the movie is pretty different from whatβs on the album). BUT Iβve been listening to Outkast a ton lately & I thought Iβd give it a shot.
Itβs honestly pretty great. Big Boiβs stuff is just as good as Speakerboxxx in most cases (βThe Trainβ, βMorris Brownβ). Andre 3000βs stuff builds off of his genre experiments (βIdlewild Blueβ, βLife is Like a Musicalβ) on The Love Below AND he raps a lot more on it (great verses on βThe Mighty Oβ & βChronomentrophobiaβ). Plus the way itβs sequenced makes it feel more like an Outkast album than Speakerboxxx or Love Below on their own.
The main criticism I have is that itβs overlong and couldβve been trimmed down...but the same thing could be said about Stankonia and Speakerboxxx/The Love Below (not knocking either of those, just saying this one isnβt really an exception).
TL;DR: Idlewild is actually a good album. If youβve avoided it like I did, give it a shot. If you like their later albums like Stankonia & Speakerboxxx/Love Below youβll probably like this too.
Any advice on what to expect or pro tips? Are there benches at the tee pads? Driving through the area Sunday and plan on stopping to play with my pregnant girlfriend.
