Whyis Icelandic króna getting so much weaker in recent weeks?

M5.is

You can see here the value has been plummeting. I've heard from a friend this is a result of some trade agreement, but I'd like to know more in detail.

Also people in government are saying strong króna is bad for exports, but great for imports. Yet, prices have not gone down at all, so some fuckers are definitely getting richer at the expense of the nation.

I'm very interested in this, please, enlighten me. Cheers

2021 Icelandic General Elections

Yesterday, September 25th 2021, Icelanders went to the polls for the general election to Alþing, the parliament of the republic of Iceland.

The polls closed 22:00UTC, and first numbers arrived about ten minutes later.

The Alþing ("all Assembly") is often claimed to be one of the oldest still operating parliaments in the world, having served continuously in some capacity (save a 44-year stint where it was disbanded by the Danish Monarch) since the founding of the Icelandic commonwealth in 930. Alþing is a unicameral legislature consisting of 63 members elected by closed list proportional elections. The country is split in to six constituencies that elect between 8 and 13 representatives roughly according to population, plus 1 or 2 equalization seats each that are distributed to parties that reach a 5% threshold nationwide. The Alþing is voted to 4-year terms.

The last general elections were held on the 28th October 2017. Turnout was 81.2%. After strained government negotiations a cross-spectrum three party majority of the Left Green Movement, Independence Party, and Progressive party was formed with the Left Green Movement holding the prime ministry.

The following parties have put forth lists in all six constituencies:

Iceland's first human trafficking conviction. A 19 year old girl from Lithuania brought to Iceland to be sold into prostitution and was only saved from this fate due to acting violently on an airplane while under the influence of alchool.

It was October 9, 2009 and an Iceland Express flight from Warsaw, Poland to the Icelandic capitol Reykjavik was an hour away from landing at Reykjavik's Keflavík International Airport after a quiet uneventful flight. However before the flight would land a young girl suddenly got up from her seat and walked down the aisle and acted erratically. She would utter threats, stomp her feet, hit and struck the cabin walls and overhead bins with her fist, shouted at the passengers, stumbled down the aisle as if intoxicated and then she would get physical and started to slap and strike passengers sitting in their seats, before stopping to break into tears and sobs before she would continue her violent and strange behavior before stopping again and expressing her desire to be hugged/cuddled/embraced and shown care and warmth before yet again acting erratically and violent striking passengers in their seats. Eventually she was restrained and held down by other passengers and had her hands and ankles tied up with zip-ties by the flight attendants but of course she resisted the whole time trying to kick and headbutt those holding her down.

After this she was placed back into her seat where she started to breathe very shallow and then passed out. Once the plane landed at Keflavík airport the police and paramedics boarded the plane and brought her to a hospital. The police at first figured her behavior was a result of drugs and that she may have been a drug mule. According to her identification the girl was a 22 year old from Lithuania named Ieva Grisiúte. When questioned she simply stated her purpose for going to Iceland was just for a vacation. After being questioned she was sent to a hospital. The police also found out that Ieva wasn't her real name and that the ID was stolen. I will however continue to refer to her as Ieva

Not long after she left the police station three Lithuanian man entered the police station to ask about Ieva however the officer manning the front told them that she was taken to a hospital and the police officer didn't find any reason to be suspicious of these men at least not yet but unbeknownst to him is that two of these three men were captured on CCTV footage waiting at Keflavík airport before going to the front desk at the airport to ask about Leva and they were then directed to the police.

At the hospital due to her behavior, the police's initial theory that Ieva was a drug mule and the fact that her reason for visiting Iceland was questio

Savings options in Iceland: any advice appreciated

Hi r/Bogleheads. As stated in the title, I am living in Iceland and wanted to see what your guys' thoughts are on the Vanguard options that my bank has.

The Icelandic pension system does not allow me to have much control over where my money goes, so I've been keen on putting away a bit of my monthly paycheck into a Vanguard fund or funds.

This is intended to be a long term thing. I'm putting aside money that I do not need, and I intend to keep doing so for the foreseeable future (until I'm 50, 27 now). Create a so-called safety net for myself, aside from my pension.

Anyway, long story short, my bank offers 6 Vanguard funds (I haven't been able to find a way to do the ETF route from Iceland yet):

  1. Vanguard Global Stock Index Fund
  2. Vanguard European Stock Index Fund
  3. Vanguard U.S 500 Stock Index Fund
  4. Vanguard Emerging Markets Stock Index Fund
  5. Vanguard U.S Government Bond Index Fund
  6. Vanguard ESG Developed World All Cap Equity I.F

Some other key information: transaction fees are 1.5%, the funds are settled in USD, I have to invest USD and not the local Icelandic Króna, and there are some custody and management fees as well (not entirely sure yet).

My main question is, would going this route (Vanguard funds) be a good idea assuming I will be putting $1000 every month for the next two decades, what with the transaction fees and leveraging the ISK against the dollar? And if so, what sort of allocations should I look into with the 6 funds that are available to me (I was thinking something like 80% US 500 and 20% Global)

Anyways, truly appreciate any advice.

TL:Dr, trying to create my own, personal safety net via Vanguard funds and need advice, cheers.

"The body was bloodless and thin - so thin that the ribs could be counted from a distance of 23 feet - the cheekbone suction and fat layer completely disappeared" Iceland's shocking case of neglect and child abuse

(I skipped the next two cases as they are yet another case of infantcide with there not being much more information then available on the wikipedia summaries.)

Páll Júlíus Pálsson was born in 1893 to Páll Hannesson and Pálína Pálsdóttir. His father Páll Hannesson had three other children and moved to the Icelandic countryside in 1900. One of his children and the focus of this case was Páll Júlíus. Páll Hannesson although trying to provide for his family and self was often at odds with the authorities and there was an incident in 1901 when his son Páll Júlíus was "beaten" by a farmer in Hörgsdalur named Oddur Stígsson

(The following i'm not sure about as i'm using google translate and am not a native speaker so It'd be nice if native Icelanders can correct me if i'm wrong. Take this auction thing with a grain of salt until I get told if it's accurate or not)

The early 1900s was a vastly different time compared to today and one of the main differences is that in Iceland sometimes the children of poor families would be auctioned off to work with families more better off such as being servants or farmhands. Páll Júlíus was a child that met such a fate and in 1902 was gifted to a farmer living in Hörgsdalur where he would work for an allowance of 20 Icelandic króna. The farmers name? Oddur Stígsson...And his wife Margrét Eyjólfsdóttir

When first arriving Páll Júlíus was predictably disobedient but soon came around and would work as hard as he could at 9 years old and visitor's described him as lively, cheerful, somewhat witty and brave. Upon first arriving Páll Júlíus was described as blushing but perfectly healthy albeit a bit slim.

Páll Hannesson was once allowed to visit the farm and his son confinded in him in private that he was terrified and Oddur would often beat him. After this visit he tried several times to get his son back from the farm or at the very least transferred but was consistently rejected with the authorities and head of Kleifahreppur stating that they were opposed to Páll Júlíus rejoining his father and the second time he was allowed to visit his son Páll Júlíus changed his tone and stated he was pleased with his current circumstances and was treated well.

However several visitors to the farm would later complain but how Páll Júlíus was being treated. He one got a wound and cut on his leg but Oddur never consulted a doctor and let it go on for three months and the few townspeople reported that whenever Páll Júlíus was in town h

A man murdered an elderly woman to force the police and courts to take action against him.

Elís Helgi Ævarsson was born in 1973 and since a very young age he started to show severe behavior problems which in by the time he was a teenager had evolved into a drug addiction which in turn led to a long criminal record and was known to the police. In March, 1991 he was given a fine for assault and then in April, 1994 he was sentenced to 4 months probation for theft, He was then given three months probation in March, 1998 for forgery and in December the same year he was given a partially suspended sentence and 5 months probation for assault and drug offences when he attacked a 19 year old at a summer house with repeated punches and kicks and even slashed him once on the back.

Elís Helgi Ævarsson

It was now 1999 and yet again Elís had fallen out of rehab yet again and back into his drug habits and November, 1999 they'd be worse then ever before as he would become addicted to cocaine, ecstasy, amphetamines and would become addicted to alchool as well using alchool to wash down various sleeping pills. And he would repeat this process nearly daily.

Elís during this period decided to visit his mothers apartment in Reykjavik the capitol of Iceland and his mother gave him permission to stay with her for however long she needed.

The apartment building this case takes place and where Elís was staying.

It was now December 3, 1999 and Elís was alone in the apartment as his mother was out at the time. And at this time Elís has been awake for 50 hours straight. by now Elís had 4 separate criminal convictions. While in the apartment along Elís started to develop a deep hatred for society but more importantly himself he thought he was being punished with a great burden and had considered committing suicide but couldn't muster up the courage the courage to follow through with it. So Elís instead decided to make someone punish him for him and he thought of committing crime to get sent to prison. However he was aware of how on all previous charges the courts let him go with nothing more then a slap to the wrist and instead decided he would have to commit a much more severe crime to force the courts to give him an actual severe punishment.

He then took a knife from the kitchen and hid it on his person

FREE MOVIE FRIDAY: 🌞💰Day of the Wolves💰🐺—Seven criminals are recruited to pull the greatest heist ever committed. They all sport disguises and are known to one another only by code names code. Their mission: rob the entire town of Lake Havasu City, AZ. This criminally underrated heist film / modern day western was a huge influence on Quentin Tarantino, who quotes liberally from it in RESERVOIR DOGS, and should be used as an example of what a resourceful filmmaker can do with the barest of resources and a great script. And that final twist! At $0.00 to watch on YouTube, it's practically a steal!

FREE MOVIE FRIDAY: 🇮🇸Investigation Into The Invisible World (2002)🧚🏿— Ever wonder why Bjork is so weird? After watching this documentary, you'll realize the shocking truth: Bjork is pretty normal by Icelandic standards. INVESTIGATION INTO THE INVISIBLE WORLD is a documentary about Icelanders and their relationship with invisible beings such as elves ghosts, angels, water monsters and extra-terrestrials; as it turns out, all of them (including the President) have had experiences with at least one of those phenomena. Is the veil between our world and the shadow realm particularly thin in Iceland? All I can say is that I've never heard of a DOT in the US rerouting highways to avoid particularly elf-infested boulders. Watch now for 0 Króna before the spirits pull it from YouTube!

The Woman Thrown Into A Lava Flow.

Sri Rahmawati was born in 1970 in Indonesia into a family of 10 siblings. She had her first child when she was 18 years old in 1988 and a second child at 21 years old in 1991. Her husband left her leaving Sri struggling so she moved to Iceland in 1997.

Sri moved to Iceland because her older sister met an Icelandic man she would later marry while in Indonesia and Sri's bother also decided to move to the country as well. Sri and her brother both worked at a bakery in the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik. At the bakery she would often take extra shifts as her goal was to make as much money as possible for her family.

Sri was introduced to a man named Hákon Eydal by an acquaintance and it soon became apparent that Hákon had taken a liking to Sri. The two then started a relationship but it would go down hill fast as Hákon was abusive and an alcoholic and drug abuser it eventually got to the point where Sri fled after months of abusive but when Sri became pregnant in 2002 with Hákon's child she stayed with him assuming that he'd improve for the baby's sake.

How ever Sri started to have doubts and feared that the child wouldn't be safe to which Hákon replied with "If you abort this child, I'll kill you". Like most abusers he would later apologize and promise that things would improve and Sri accepted this apology. Another reason why Sri stayed was because Hákon repeatedly told her that she'd help bring Sri's children from Indonesia to Iceland. Sri put in the work to get all the passports and papers needed but in mind 2002 Hákon went back on his word and told Sri that he didn't want her two children in Iceland as they were already having one child and didn't need two more.

Sri upset simply said "Then I'll just do it on my own" And she managed to pull this off as her two children arrived in Iceland in July, 2002 and the next month on August 6, 2002 Sri gave birth to her and Hákon's child. Hákon would visit Sri in the maternity ward where he apologized for everything he did and promised her that she would change again. He told her he wanted to start over and also gave her a box containing 1238500.00 Icelandic króna. However Hákon would again go back on his word and refuse to pay alimony for the children and demanded a DNA test to determine whether he actually was the father. The DNA test confirmed that he was indeed the father. Once he learned this he then demanded that he would have sole custody of the child.

While this matter was being sorted out Hákon woul

The Brutal Murderer And Con Artist Whom During His Childhood Barely Escape With His Life From A Crazed Gunman.

Þórhallur Ölver Gunnlaugsson was born in 1958.

On January 14th 1973 and a taxi driver named Sigurður Tómas Sigurbjarnarson had just picked someone up from his home in Víðimel which is in Iceland's capitol Reykjavik. The passenger asked him to drop him off at another area of Reykjavik called Yrsufell.

The passenger seemed strange and intoxicated and would frequently try to talk to Sigurður about Adolf Hitler and his speeches he was also described as upset. After the drive carried on the passenger then showed Sigurður that he had a loaded shotgun. Sigurður forbade him from handling it in his car and asked what he planned on doing with it while intoxicated. He simply responded that he was going duck hunting even though it currently wasn't duck season.

Nevertheless the issue wasn't pushed any further and Sigurður dropped him off at his destination without incident. The passenger then walked to an apartment where a woman lived with her husband and two children. He rang the doorbell and asked to be let inside. However the man simply broke in himself after he received no answer and wasn't granted entry. Thankfully he didn't do anything and just walked by them to the upstairs apartments.

He made his way to the apartment of an unnamed woman who lived with her 14 year old son. The son went to answer the door when the doorbell rang only to see the man holding his shotgun, The boy fought to keep the door closed and when she realized what happened his mother soon joined in and once they did force the door shut the man simply fired through the wooden door with his shotgun. He then reached through the hole he had made in the door to try and reach the handle and open the door from the outside. The mother yet again fought to keep it shut and had her son run away to call the police. (I think he climbed the balcony over to another apartment)

The man managed to break in and demanded to know where the woman's daughter was (she wasn't home) and after he refused to believe her the woman and pushed the shotgun away and ran outside with the gunman following her down the halls and shooting at her. She then sought refugee in unlocked and empty apartment.

Hafsteinn Jósepsson lived in an apartment on the second floor with his wife and children. Hafsteinn had been hearing the gunshots and went upstairs after his wife ran down to the apartment and told him that there was a man shooting at a woman on the third floor. Iceland's Brazen Daylight Robbery.

It was October 17, 2011 and and also time for Frank Michelsen to open up his watch making store in Reykjavik, Iceland. Frank has been running this business since 1992 when he took over from his father. The company was founded in 1909 by his grandfather in the small town of Sauðárkrókur making the business 102 years old at the time of this incident. With Frank at the store was his son and a recent father Magnus Daniel. And Sigrún Guðlaug Ragnarsdóttir a staff member who was mopping up the shops floor.

The store has opened less than 20 minutes prior when suddenly three man armed with pistols entered the store and ordered everyone to get down on the floor. Fearing for their lives the three obeyed while the other two robbers using hammers smashed open the display cases and stole only watches made by profitable companies such as Rolex, Tudor and Michelsen. The man were wearing face masks and spoke English with a heavy accent only sayings things such as "Get down" and "Go".

The thieves then ran to a getaway car they had parked all night and with it's engine already running and a man waiting in the driver's seat for them. The thieves drove all the way to Smaudekatta also in Reykjavik where they changed cars.

The car the thieves used in the getaway and the car they switched to after arriving in Smaudekatta were both stolen prior to the heist. The police arrived at the scene not long after due to the crime being committed in public and in daylight. The police also found the first getaway vehicle a blue audi. Although there were no DNA or fingerprint evidence left behind at the scene and none of the stolen watches the police did find a pistol used in the heist in the backseat however the gun was found to be fake and recently bought from a toy store.

The police then checked CCTV footage from around the area's nearby the robbery and found three man that peaked their interest one of them having even taken off their mask. Iceland's Prison Escape Story

Matthías Máni Erlingsson was born on October 15, 1988. Matthías himself was also incredibly physically fit as he had once served in The French Foreign Legion. He grew up in Austria for most of his youth where he would be sentenced to three years in prison for assault and since then his mental state began to deteriorate

In the late 2000s - early 2010s he started a relationship with a woman however this relationship was kept secret, The reason? Because this woman's ex boyfriend was Matthías's father. Matthías didn't live with this woman (who's name I can't find) but he would often visit her house. His girlfriend also had a young child

Matthías would tell his girlfriend that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her but her girlfriend didn't feel the same way and didn't consider their relationship serious either. This would result in Matthías as a result of this would often threaten his girlfriend even using knifes to do this and because she didn't want to make the relationship serious he started to believe his girlfriend was still dating his father.

Despite the abuse his girlfriend wouldn't break off the relationship and they have been dating for 5 months. Matthías however would get enraged easily, get jealous easily, follow/stalk his girlfriend and threaten violence upon her. After all the threats his girlfriend began to hide all the knives in her home so that Matthías wouldn't be able to find them.

On April 1, 2012 things would take a turn for the worst. Matthías had come over for the night and at first things were going well but then Matthías lost 1,500 Icelandic Króna and accused his girlfriend of stealing it. His girlfriend had denied these accusations and told him to leave but Matthías refused to leave and hit her with such force she fell to the floor. She then told Matthías that he lost the Króna and that it had fallen under the couch but despite this Matthías didn't let up and continued to attack her and grabbed her by her throat and screamed at her to dump his father whom he still assumed she was dating. He then grabbed a pillow and put it to her face trying to smother her with it before calming down and stopping.

His girlfriend then leaved and walked directly to the police station but found it to be closed so she then called 112 (The emergency number in Iceland) and told the police everything when they arrived. The police didn't have much evidence aside from his girlfriend's word so they didn't arrest him as any charges proably

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

The owner of a car dealership beaten to death with an brass rod.

(Yet again I skipped the next three cases. One because I already wrote about it and the other two because they are cases of infanticide with no further information then the wikipedia summaries)

It was now the late 1920s and Iceland wasn't any more dangerous then it was before and in fact it was safer this decade despite the fact that the great depression has hit the island hard. The last murder was in 1913 and many assumed that such a violent crime of the nature in this case just wouldn't happen in Iceland especially in the capitol of Iceland.

Jón Egilsson was however on man doing decently well off during the depression. Born on November 5, 1888 he lived in Reykjavik the capitol of Iceland for all his life and work various odd jobs until 1910 when he would become an employee of a gas station and at the same time take other jobs while working at the station such as plumbing or in charge of reading meters. He would then be promoted to the accountant at the gas station a position he would keep until 1927 when he resigned. After his resignation he and his would become business partners with his brother Sveinn Egilsson and open up a car dealership/workshop called "Sveinn Egilsson and co" with Jón as the manager and co founder. The shop was doing well and started to hire mutable employees although the shop did have a single incident once where in the summer the shop was broken into but nothing was stolen and nobody was harmed. Jón would often sleep in a room of the shop next to the office where he would also store all of his money and valuables. He claimed this was so he could catch any future thieves in the act.

On the night before his murder Jón had gone to the cinema with a friend and afterwards he had a conversation with his brother Sveinn before Jón went to the office of his shop to sleep. Then on the morning of November 30, 1929 a horrifying discovery was made. Two men named Erlend Jónsson and Jón Leví arrived at the shop and one of the first things they noticed was a broken window and the door already open. Once they entered they saw the room to the office opened and Jón laying in a pool of his own blood. Erlend and Jón Leví immediately contacted the police.

The police found that the window "cut out" and that the killer reached in to unlock and open the door. The police also believed the killer was familiar with the store as he entered the office via Jón's room as opposed to the locked door. The murder weapon was brass rod used for moto

Just because it's a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke

Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.

THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB

Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"

I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual

So check out r/jokes for all types of jokes

r/unclejokes for dirty jokes

r/3amjokes for real weird and alot of OC

r/cleandadjokes If your really sick of seeing not dad jokes in r/dadjokes

Punchline !

Edit: this is not a post about NSFW , This is about jokes, knock knock jokes, blonde jokes, political jokes etc being posted in a dad joke sub

Edit 2: don't touch the thermostat

The Last Death Sentence Ever Handed Out In Iceland.

Eyjólfur Jónsson was born on July 1, 1863 and moved to the capital of Iceland Reykjavik when it was being turned from a small town by the sea into the city it would become today. Eyjólfur would also have the two nicknames of ‘Eyjólfur the Strong’ and ‘Eyjólfur with the Iron Hands’

Despite his outward appearance Eyjólfur was decently well off (for the time) as he owned land, had saving and freely lent out money to others without expecting any interest in return. However that doesn't mean he was rich as Eyjólfur would soon quit and leave his employer and seek other work as he thought he was being underpaid. Despite how often he worked he would frequently save his money only buying food when necessary and wearing the same few pairs of clothes which he would wash himself. He also didn't engage in at the time modern entertainment like motion pictures and didn't drink although he was against prohibition in Iceland (Which would be repealed until 1989 but like in the US the law was mostly ignored)

Eyjólfur also had a younger sister named Júlíana Silfa Jónsdóttir who knew how to read and write since a relatively young age. Júlíana husband died in 1909 leaving her a widow and two years later she moved to Reykjavik as well. She then met and moved in with a sailor named Hannes Hansson and his two daughters. Júlíana invited a 40 year old physically ill man named Jón Jónsson to live in the house. Jón had recently left his life and although considered a hard worker he had been given the nickname "Jón the jobless" Hannes didn't approve of this and around this time Júlíana also started to get demanding and repeatedly tried to get Hannes to turn his assets over to her including half the house. Hannes refused because he wanted to make sure his children had their inheritance and when Júlíana also demanded that Jón keep living with him Hannes finally kicked the two out.

The two soon found house they could live in and then they had the space and time Eyjólfur would often stay there with them to visit. Eyjólfur would often loan them money to pay the rent for the home as well. In September, 1913 Eyjólfur would also find a place to live in Western Reykjavik with a married couple named Ingunn and Magnus. Despite this Eyjólfur kept a trunk containing everything he owned back with Júlíana.

Eyjólfur would later get in trouble as he as sued by his former employer however Eyjólfur considered this lawsuit unjust and returned to Júlíana's home to

Then the other muffin says "AHH, TALKING MUFFIN!!!"

Dropped my best ever dad joke & no one was around to hear it

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

I said "hey look, an escaPEA"

No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!

Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies 😂

Petition to ban rants from this sub

Ants don’t even have the concept fathers, let alone a good dad joke. Keep r/ants out of my r/dadjokes.

But no, seriously. I understand rule 7 is great to have intelligent discussion, but sometimes it feels like 1 in 10 posts here is someone getting upset about the jokes on this sub. Let the mods deal with it, they regulate the sub.

The two Soviet spies exposed in Iceland.

Ragnar Guðni Gunnarsson was born on September 17, 1929. Not much of his early life is known but as a teenager he joined the Icelandic socialist youth organization known as Æskulýðsfylkingin. It's unknown where or how his political views formed but Ragnar got deep into socialism and communism and embraced the idea never wavering in his belief of the ideology.

During the 1950s he and a group of fellow Icelandic students with similar views got a chance to travel to the Soviet Union to experience communism first hand. While in the Soviet Union many witnessed the crippling poverty and severe restrictions on freedoms and human rights so when many of the students returned to Iceland they were very disillusioned and revoked their previous support of socialism but as mentioned above Ragnar however clung to his belief he acknowledged that the Soviet system had many flaws and that things could've been implemented better but he also greatly admired Soviet achievements such as sending Yuri Gagarin into space making him the first man to ever exit our little world. When interviewed he described the Soviet System of communism as "Nothing is ever perfect"

Upon his return to Iceland Ragnar would start his own trucking company in the capitol Reykjavik. Ragnar would also be a frequent guess at M.í.R which was the cultural exchange office between Iceland and The Soviet Union. While at a M.í.R meeting he would meet two man from the Soviet embassy simply named Kisilev and Dmitriyev. The two men were aware that Ragnar's trucking company was doing poorly and offered to help him out due to being a fellow socialist...But for a small fee of course

This fee or rather a favor was "simple" Ragnar was to get a job at the NATO Keflavik air force base where he would secretly take pictures of the aircraft and other military technology. Ragnar however refused as despite his love for socialism he didn't want to actually do anything illegal and especially not something like this which could of landed him in very huge trouble if caught.

The Keflavik air force base

Kisilev and Dmitriyev found Ragnar's reply to be unsatisfactory and would continu
