A list of puns related to "House Of Wettin"
I am trying to wrap my head around this odd connection.
The history of Brandenburg-Prussia and eventually the Kingdom of Prussia is one of chance and marriage politics. One of the key moments was in 1525 when the last Grandmaster of the Teutonic Order, Albrecht (a Hohenzollern), decided to abandon his post and become the Duke of Prussia, treating it as a Polish fiefdom and pledging a personal oath to King Sigismund I.
As I was reading about Grandmasters of the Teutonic Order I realize that the second-last Grandmaster of the Teutonic Order was a Wettin. This house, from the late 17th century, briefly supplied the King of Poland. Weren't they incredibly frustrated with the fact that they were one Grandmaster away from keeping the Prussian territories within a hereditary Wettin line?
There is no mention of it in the books I have laying around (admittedly, they focus primarily on Prussia after 1525), and the internet gives me no real answers either.
The following letter is sent to the Margrave of Ansbach, Frederick the Elder:
To Frederick I von Hohenzollern, Margrave of Ansbach and Kulmbach
I hope this letter finds you in good health. I reach out today as a friend and potential ally. As you may know, I am still unmarried despite being Elector of Saxony and Landgrave of Thuringia. I have decided it is time to take a wife, and your daughter Sophie would be a good match. She has recently come of age for taking a husband, and I am prepared to house her in the Elector palace at Wittenberg living most comfortable.
The houses of Hohenzollern and Wettin are old and prestigious. This marriage of Holy Matrimony would bind our houses by alliance and blood. Ansbach would be a valuable ally for Saxony, especially in these trying times.
For the matter of the dowry, give me a figure and my accountants will take care of the rest. I eagerly await to meet Sophie in person.
Frederick III von Wettin, Elector of Saxony and Landgrave of Thuringia

Communication is key.
Today the House Intelligence Committee will hold public hearings in preparation for possible Impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump. Expected to testify are William Taylor, the top diplomat in Ukraine, and George Kent, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian affairs.
The hearings are scheduled to begin at 10:00 EST. You can watch live online on CSPAN or PBS or most major networks.
Reportedly, today's hearing will follow a unique format, and will look/sound a bit different to those of you that are familiar with watching House hearings.
The day will start with opening statements from House Intel Chair Adam Schiff, ranking member Devin Nunes, and both witnesses, William Taylor and George Kent.
Opening statements will be followed by two 45 minute long continuous sessions of questioning. The first will be led by Chair Adam Schiff, followed by Ranking Member Nunes. The unique aspect here is that both the majority and minority will have staff legal counsel present, with counsel expected to present many, if not most, of the questions. Chair Schiff and Ranking Member Nunes are free to interject their own questions (during their respective times) as they wish.
Following the two 45 minute sessions, each member of the Intel Committee will be afforded the standard 5 minute allotment of time for their own questions. The order will alternate between Dem/GOP members.
Today's hearing will conclude with closing statements by Chairman Schiff and Ranking Member Nunes, and is expected to come to a close around 4pm EST
Would just like to preface this by saying I (37M) walked out not in malicious protest but because I wanted to cool off.
So here goes: my wife (38F) and daughter (11) got into a jokey discussion about alien invasions and apocalyptic situations.
Then my daughter asks if my wife would protect her in this situation and my wife says β I love you more than Iβll love anybody else in the world.β
Yes, she says this in front of me. My wife then puts her arm around my shoulder and goes on to say that her father- aka me- and I would use each other as shields against any danger that comes to her. Meaning sheβd gladly sacrifice me.
At that point, I picked up my keys and said β gee thanks- go ahead and start lunch without me.β My wife suddenly gets self righteous and says there was no way I could expect to choose a spouse over a kid.
I felt like she had just shit on our entire marriage and life vows. And the principle aside, the fact I was furious I think should have been enough to excuse me leaving the house.
So I left the house and drove around to cool off.
Then I went over to my sisterβs house because I told her how upset I was and as a result, she and her spouse invited me to have dinner with them.
I may have ignored some calls from my wife but she knew where I was and in addition, I just couldnβt see her or be in the house at the moment. I always felt like my wife loved the kids more than me, and it hurts.
The fact that she would hypothetically and do casually throw me to the wolves was making me question if I loved her more than she loved me and if so, why I bothered to give her my loyalty. When there could be other women, like my sister, who valued their spouse more than anything.
AITA? Not for my beliefs but for the fact that I took the time to cool off.
I needed this time because I was seriously and suddenly regretting a lot of the sacrifices I made for this woman, when it wasnβt like I didnβt have other options, women in their early twenties who have hit on me but who I ignored in favor of the woman who I thought would put me first.
Today the full House of Representatives will debate and vote on the articles of impeachment against President Donald J. Trump.
On Tuesday the House Rules Committee announced the parameters of todayβs impeachment debate.
The Rules Committee approved six hours of debate on the House floor, which will be divided equally by Democrats and Republicans and will be led by the House Judiciary Committee leaders. The House will also have one hour of debate before taking the procedural vote to approve the rule governing the debate.
The House will then vote on the two articles of impeachment on abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. No amendments will be allowed. Finally, The House Rules Committee has allowed for the House to approve a resolution naming impeachment managers after the articles of impeachment have been passed.
Currently the vote is expected to take place some time between 6pm-8pm EST
If Trump is impeached, the process will then move to the Senate, where a trial will be held to determine whether Trump is guilty of the charges outlined in the Articles of Impeachment.

The chairmen of three House committees subpoenaed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo Friday over his failure to produce answers about Ukraine.
"Pursuant to the House of Representatives' impeachment inquiry, we are hereby transmitting a subpoena that compels you to produce the documents set forth in the accompanying schedule by October 4, 2019," the chairmen of the House Foreign Affairs, Intelligence and Oversight committees wrote in a letter to Pompeo.
In addition to the subpoena, Reps. Adam Schiff, Eliot Engel and Elijah Cummings informed the top US diplomat in a separate letter that they had deposed five State Department officials who have been mentioned in relation to the inquiry -- Ambassador Marie "Masha" Yovanovitch, Ambassador Kurt Volker, Deputy Assistant Secretary George Kent, Counselor T. Ulrich Brechbuhl and Ambassador Gordon Sondland.

The 41-member panel met to debate a resolution allowing it to designate hearings as impeachment proceedings, subject witnesses to more aggressive questioning and quicken the pace of an investigation that is expanding into areas that could prove politically explosive for both Trump and Congress.
Committee members also hope that approving the resolution will dispel lingering confusion within the House Democratic caucus about how to describe the investigation.
