A list of puns related to "Hardy Space"
I have a cold area of my house where I would like to grow some plants. Itβs normally in the 50s but when it gets really cold it can get as low as 30. I recently found out that vinca minor (which is hardy in my area) can also be grown indoors in a trailing pot. Apparently so can vinca major, which is hardy to zone 7, because it will be growing where the temperatures donβt drop below 30!
I am also open to any other ideas for plants that will thrive in these conditions if you know of something you think will work. The temps here will be in the 30s this week so if itβs hardy it wonβt even need a heat pack! π
I have cuttings I can trade from Cuban oregano, callisia repens, codonanthe devosiana, strawberry begonia or teddy bear vine, and I also have many hardy perennial flower seeds.
I don't know shit about gardening, but I've been having fun this spring trying to turn my mess of a front yard into something aesthetically pleasing. There are some assorted daffodil-y things, a few clusters of other Stuff that seem to have survived for several years, none of which I've planted. I've personally planted some lemon balm, some chocolate mint, some garlic, and some sunflowers, along with some other seeds that promptly disappeared.
My biggest issue with the 'garden' is the way grass & weeds fill in all of the empty space and look ugly as hell. My garlic totally disappeared because I got lazy about weeding, and now I can't find it in the grass. So I'm looking for ground covering plants that are hardy, can hopefully grow back next year, and are more garden-y/aesthetically pleasing than the mess of grass I have right now. The lemon balm is great for this, as well as some nice clover that's come up, but I'd like to have a little more variety.
I'm in Nebraska and the yard is in direct sunlight. Ideas? I can post pictures of what I have right now if you want, but it's pretty hideous
As you might recall, most of the original 58 Hardy Boys books take place in summer, presumably between their junior and senior years of high school. Mystery after mystery is solved during this one summer. But what is amazing is that in 46: The Secret Agent on Flight 101, on page one of the book, it says school ended for the summer the day before.
That's right. 45 mysteries down, and only then do they get to the next day of summer in book 46.
Truly the greatest mystery the boys never addressed. Masters of space and time.
Major General (Formerly Third Great Grand Most High) Ge'ermo'o stood by the holotank, which was displaying the thirty-eight tanks that had been found destroyed with the tag "IT WAS LIKE THAT WHEN WE GOT HERE" on the ground or on the side of the tank. All of them had caught on fire, had thrown tracks, and were showing massive damage.
The turbo-lift doors opened and General Trucker came in, the hiss and wheeze of his cybernetics loud in the silence of the conference room. With him was General Warkrawk, the Commander of the Corps Maintenance. Following quietly was Gunner Second Class Ha'almo'or, who looked nervous to Ge'ermo'o. General NoDra'ak exited the elevator, the robotic legs of his therapy frame clicking on the deck plating.
They silently gathered around, staring at the holotank.
"That's a lot of Confed tax payer money," NoDra'ak chuckled, lighting his cigarette.
"Indeed," General A'armo'o said.
"So who's idea was this? Speak freely," General NoDra'ak said.
There was silence a moment.
NoDra'ak sighed, puffing smoke out around his two remaining footpads. "I'm not interested in laying blame. As a matter of fact, the undeniable evidence there is something seriously wrong with our new 'supertanks' makes me more concerned about the reality that we may be fielding our troops with faulty equipment. That, gentlemen, is how you lose a war."
There was nods.
Ge'ermo'o held up one hand. "It was my idea, General."
NoDra'ak nodded. "Why?"
Ge'ermo'o pointed at the tanks in the holotank. One was showering trails of sparks like an expensive firework display. "I did not trust the tanks."
"That's it?" General Warkrawk asked, reaching up and smoothing her hair. She had a short cowlick at the front that she patted nervously. "You destroyed almost forty tanks because you 'didn't trust them'?"
Ge'ermo'o nodded. "Observational data caused an instinctive dislike to the new machines. Just the simple act of standing in front of one and staring at it during a scheduled precipitation period, to observe how it appears in the rain, made me instinctively distrust it. There was something in my observations that I was not consciously recognizing that made me distrust the machine in the same way as I would distru

It hadnβt been an unusual day aboard the Rehabilitation segment of the Drakta Station. A few new species members had arrived to be rehabilitated in accordance with Union law and all was routine.
That is to say it was routine until the message arrived.
***
UNION PRIORITY CHANNEL TO DRAKTA STATION - REHABILITATION
PREPARE TO RECEIVE CLASS 10 SPECIES OFFENDER
***
The supervisors of the Rehabilitation segment had all needed to read and re-read the message before taking action. Within minutes, the Rehabilitation segment was buzzing with the word of the impending arrival, both the guardians and the offenders being rehabilitated.
There could be no doubts as to the contents of the message, but along with the buzz came a chill that seemed to fill the whole of the Rehabilitation segment and seemed even to spread outward into the station beyond.
Union law was very clear on how rehabilitation was conducted. Offenders, regardless of their species, were subjected to what Union outsiders condemned as effectively torture. The Union didnβt care. It was viewed as far more effective and universal than attempting to correct built in sociopathic and perhaps psychopathic behaviors that the various members of species were bound to develop over the course of social developments in mixed societies.
The Rehabilitation Segment of the various stations throughout the Union were a necessary combatant in order to protect the larger population and the Drakta Station segment was no exception. But the Drakta Station Rehabilitation segment was also older, built from scrapped vessels and so was more heavily reinforced than the average Rehabilitation segment.
The long singular passage that connected it to Drakta Station was kept sealed by the void of space and was long enough that even the most hardy Union species wouldnβt be able to cross it without inflicting lethal damage upon themselves to the point that without immediate medical aid from the best species doctors on the other end, they would assuredly perish.
And yet still the hushed whisper of a Class 10 Species Offender arriving moved like tachyons, utterly permeating the station and cloaking it in an almost nervous sense of fear. Union species werenβt pacifists nor were they warriors. They simply did what was necessary. But this was something new.
There were no Class 10 Species within the Union a

After Christians win, Ricky Starks walks in looking as hot as ever. He says he's his own man, and regardless of what we've heard, he's front and center. He won't be on the sidelines like the jabronis on the sidelines. Team Taz then rushes the ring. Hangman stumbles in, hands Ricky his beer, then starts pounding on Will and Brian. He tries to buckshot Brian Cage but gets countered and taken down by Hook. Brian Cage is able to powerbomb Page and then TazLaugh.PNG. Taz assures us Team Taz will win the battle royale.
We hear from The Varsity Blonds. Pillman says it's funny the Bucks mention his dad, because most would assume he was here because of his dad. He says the opposite is true, his dad was the reason he stayed AWAY from wrestling for so long. He said he grew up only knowing the dark side of the ring
Iβve got a dozen plants I need to get in the ground. Iβve read conflicting information on the size of these plants, do they really get 30β in diameter? What would be an appropriate distance between plants to create a privacy screen? The boxes recommended a 10β space but that seems like it would be crowded if they do mature to 30β. Thanks.

The human rubbed the toxic solvent all over it's grasping appendage, waving it's hands to let it evaporate. It then outstretched the appendage.
According to the diplomatic reports, this was supposed to be a friendly greeting, and Slack could see that, were it not a human performing the gesture.
After all Slack had experienced, the reports he had seen, the carnage he had witnessed directly, it wasn't friendly at all.
It was a threat.
Brazen and callus.
Slack glanced at the solvent dispenser, his cranial implant translating the text on the side: Isopropyl Alcohol, 70%
The human might as well have slathered its hands in molten steel. Slack hesitated for a few moments more, waiting for the solvent to evaporate completely, before extending a tentacle to grip the humans' outstretched appendage. It gripped his tentacle with a hard, rigid strength belying its hardy endoskeleton.
Slack almost shrieked in fear when he felt the smooth, seamless plastic coating on his tentacle slip as he went to withdraw his tentacle before the human had released it's grip.
Rough, microscopic ridges on it's appendages seemed to grant it an unusual grip, not unlike Slacks own suckers, though the humans ridges weren't prehensile.
It began to speak, but Slack couldn't focus on what was being said. He could only imagine the waves of microbes being carried into the surrounding chamber by it's breath.
He would have to have this room vaporized and reconstructed later. He used his cranial implant to silently mark the room for quarantine.
He knew he was hallucinating, but he could almost feel the microbes wriggling across his tentacle through the plastic coating where the human had gripped it. He could almost feel the virophages and spores impacting his face.
It was too much.
GALACTIC YEAR 13.814382117_137
Commander Slack's dreams of fighting space battles against pirates and rescuing enormous females were dashed 180 cycles ago, when he was stationed on this backwater outpost. Barely an observations site, they were 40 LY, an entire day's travel, from the nearest Federation city.
The only thing he battled these days was boredom.
He was merely the political AttachΓ©, and his rank was little more than symbolic, but he had imagined things differently. The station itself was so undermanned that he was required to fill many roles outside of his original mode of service. At one time, during the scheduled leave of the maintenance staff, he had even been

βSomeone who claims to be my sister; Whatβs that supposed to mean?β James asked into the silence of the room.
On him were the very curious eyes of his three friends, all of whom were apparently exceedingly interested in his conversation.
The Operator on the other end of the line seemed to be at a loss for words.
βWell, she says thatβs who she is, but I donβtβ¦β they said, trailing off there, apparently not quite knowing how to convey the reason for their doubts.
Funnily enough, it was that exact awkward hesitation, that made it click for James.
βAh, I get it,β he said amusedly, chuckling to himself a bit. βItβs all right. She is who she says she is. Iβll talk to her.β
βAnd how exactly are you going to do that?β Shida suddenly commented from across the room, making James look up.
He looked at her inquisitively, to which she casually lifted one arm and pointed at the tarp still taped over his desk, a sly look on her face.
Right, that was a thing.
βActually, Iβll have to call her back,β James quickly corrected himself to the Operator. βCould you tell her that Iβll get back to her as soon as I can?β
The Operator, who was apparently just glad that they wouldnβt have to deal with an incident of mistaken identity, gleefully answered,
βSure thing, Iβll let her know.β
And with that, they hung up.
James looked at the device in his hand for a moment.
βSo, you have a sister, huh?β Shida piped up again, after James said nothing for a while. βHow come youβve never told me?β
James laughed out loud at that, and asked,
βWould you believe me if I told you itβs a long story?β
He had to cut their get-together short after that. Or, more precisely, they had to move it.
His original plan was to take the call in his laboratory, where the terminal was still perfectly functional. But Shida, whose cabin was by far the closest to his, offered to let him take it there instead.
And since apparently none of his friends wanted to miss the chance to get a look at someone from Jamesβ family, everyone was comi

I have a question I was hoping that the community would be able to help me out with. My own research is almost completely about kernel functions. I did my PhD in pure mathematics, where I studied densely defined operators over a variety of classical kernel spaces and even made some of my own (hello! Polylogarithmic Hardy space!) After I graduated, I have been working in approximation theory and numerical analysis with engineers, and recently came back to operator theory through the study of Koopman operators and Dynamic Mode Decompositions.
Reading some textbooks by big guys in the field, I notice that Steve Brunton, for instance, makes almost no mention of kernels in his textbook, Data Driven Science and Engineering, and through my conversations with engineers over the years, there might be some nod to the Gaussian RBF, but then it's all about deep learning.
I have always been able to find new and interesting perspectives on kernel functions for learning theory, and a lot of these innovations are really just twists on ideas from 40 or 50 years ago (thanks to the great Wabha!). I feel that there is still a lot more life in that subject. However, as far as I can tell, most of my colleagues are of the opinion that kernels are something that were concocted to do some esoteric classification methods with SVMs and to perform inner products in feature spaces, and are otherwise unaware that kernel spaces were central to things like Shannon's theorem and many other classical topics.
Have we abandoned kernel functions for deep learning? Is there a good reason why people don't use kernels that I'm just missing? I'd be interested in hearing everyone's perspective.
Phil
