A list of puns related to "H2 Antagonist"
Since my provider hasn't given me much advice on preparing for the breath test (other than to stop PPIs and Bismuth solutions for 2 weeks), I've looked around at other medical practices and noticed that a fair number suggest halting H2 Antagonists for 1-3 days before the test (one even suggested two weeks!).
I looked for studies into why this might be the case, but could only find one (from 2001) which observed a 13% false negative rate: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11232674/
Has anyone researched this further, and can explain why there is inconsistency in prep advice? Does anyone know whether H2s affect false negatives with the stool test equally - as I may request a follow up test in case the breath test shows negative.
H2 receptor antagonists are especially effective at reducing nocturnal secretion of acid, however, they only have modest impact on **meal-**stimulated secretion of acid. Why?
Hey all-
I know itβs been discussed many times before - please excuse the repetition. Iβm wondering what H2 antagonists yβall have used and your experiences - Iβve noticed more GERD-like symptoms lately after eating and havenβt tried the H2 route yet.
Thanks so much for sharing insight and experiences!
Hello gerd comrades,
I always experienced nausea with loss of appetite and ibs but during the period between April and June Iβve got other flu like symptoms: very high heart beat per minutes (155 for just walking at home), fatigue and tingling hands. It was so bad that when Iβve called the urgent health advice 111 they considered my situation dangerous and sent the ambulance to exclude serious heart diseases.
Iβve followed a cycle of lansoprazole which made me feel worse and Iβve stopped one week earlier. I donβt know if it is a coincidence, but it worked the multivitamins bought in supermarkets and eating a lot of red meat like 1 kg per week.
Then, Iβve seen the cardiologist and gastroenterologist, everything fine from from cardiologist side but the gastroenterologist found a mild chronic gastritis after gastroscopy and colonoscopy (privately due covid19), the reason of the latter is for ibs symptoms and raised calcprotectin at 265.
I donβt have anymore the flu like symptoms for months and I am managing nausea with antacids, it could explain why the gastritis is mild now. For the fact that I felt bad with lansoprazole, the gastroenterologist advised me to try cimetidine then shop bought probiotics (I go with kefir) and multivitamins but there are no cimetidine or other h2-antagonists available in UKβs pharmacies.
Do you think I can try with another PPI or do I just keep trying with antacids?

So I was reading this paper and came across some interesting tidbits:
> Besides the classic gastric acid secretion regulation, H2R signaling has also been implicated in the development of cardiovascular disease. High histamine concentrations are found in cardiac tissues and its positive inotropic effects mediated by H2R stimulation may be important in the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease (Shi et al., 2015; Hattori, 1999 Eckel et al., 1982; Kirch et al., 1992). In fact, the blocking of histamine release or H2R antagonism prevented heart failure in rabbits with doxorubicin-induced cardiomiopathy and dogs with sustained atrial tachycardia (Takahama et al., 2010). Consistently, H2R-/- KO mice had resistance to heart failure and had lower levels of cardiac fibrosis when subjected to transverse aortic constriction (Zeng et al., 2014). Although there is no current evidence supporting this, it would be interesting to determine whether the cardioprotective action of H2R blockers relies at least partially, in a decreased responsiveness of Ξ²-Adrenoreceptor due to scavenging of GΞ±s protein by the H2R. A prospective study conducted in a cohort from the MESA study (Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis) with more than 6000 cases, concluded that the use of H2R antagonists prevent the onset of chronic heart failure (Leary et al., 2016). Based on this evidence, H2R ligands are being repurposed as reliable drugs to provide benefits to patients with chronic heart failure.
This lead me to the paper in the title. Kinda interesting since H2 receptor antagonists like ranitidine are very commonly used in the older population--it would be pretty amazing if these common drugs used for unrelated illnesses may be having beneficial effects in heart failure. PPIs seem to be much more commonly used, though. As I understand it there is a relationship between PPI use and cardiovascular risk, though I'm not really sure how solid the relationship is - from a brief skim I found conflicting studies.
What do y'all think?
While proton pump inhibitors are generally the main line of treatment for gerd these days, I'm curious about how the h2 antagonists like ranitidine, nizatidine, etc. compare to one another in terms of side effects and the prevalence of those effects.
I would appreciate any of your thoughts on this and/or any resources that could be useful for information like this.
Can I eat H2 antagonist pills like Quamatel during fasting?
Man where do I start. I was on remeron (antidepressant), an h1 and h2 antagonist and now that Iβm off it my levels are all fucked. My cholesterol, testosterone, triglycerides. My homocysteine was a 14.4 H. Not sure what that means, but on the labs says it has something to do with B12 and folate. Tongue is swollen like a motherfucker. Used to be worse, itβs a little better now. Weβre also looking into hypothyroidism, but so far no antibodies. Thinking it has something to do with the antidepressant?
I guess the concept didn't work
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
From cetricine/levocetricine vs loratadine/desloratadine over Fexofenandine or Rupatadine to H2s like Famotidine and Nizatidine, the banned Rupatadine or Cimetidine let me know your best Histamine Antagonists
Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB
Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"
I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual
So check out r/jokes for all types of jokes
r/unclejokes for dirty jokes
r/3amjokes for real weird and alot of OC
r/cleandadjokes If your really sick of seeing not dad jokes in r/dadjokes
Punchline !
Edit: this is not a post about NSFW , This is about jokes, knock knock jokes, blonde jokes, political jokes etc being posted in a dad joke sub

Mathematical puns makes me number
Ants donβt even have the concept fathers, let alone a good dad joke. Keep r/ants out of my r/dadjokes.
But no, seriously. I understand rule 7 is great to have intelligent discussion, but sometimes it feels like 1 in 10 posts here is someone getting upset about the jokes on this sub. Let the mods deal with it, they regulate the sub.

Don't you know a good pun is its own reword?
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
