Hi all, hoping someone has some insight for me.
I've got a Gravely 20-G lawn tractor, and the forward drive clutch lining is worn down pretty much to minimums. The tractor functions fine and drives fine once it's adjusted inward a bit, but I'm at the point where it can't be adjusted inwards anymore. I'd like to swap out the clutch lining myself - it's a $75 part - but it needs a certain pop rivet gun that I don't have. Since the tractor is currently at the shop for a yearly once-over, I asked them to quote me on replacing the clutch lining too. They're quoting me about $600 to replace the entire clutch assembly and lining. I've spoken to the people at the desk and have explained that I believe I only need the lining and NOT the entire assembly, and I particularly DON'T want the assembly (especially at that price), but they seem a bit insistent. I want to go in an speak directly to the tech to hear his explanation as to WHY he thinks I need the whole damn thing and not just the lining, but unfortunately he's out sick and then they're closed for the holiday, so I can't do that for a bit.
Anyhow, does anyone have any experience replacing the drive clutch lining on these things (or something similar)? Is there a reason that the who assembly would need to be replaced rather than just the lining? As I said, it all mechanically seems to function fine, just the lining is super thin.

Brelak stood in front of the door, his stomach churning. It had been a few days since the disastrous end of the Festival of Colors, and guilt had been eating at his mind the entire time. He’d only put this off as long as he had because he didn’t want to pile even more ill news onto the McClendon family.
“Papa,’ Solanna’s voice was pleading. “We really don’t have to do this!”
“You would do well to keep your mouth shut, Solanna.” Ny’xie growled at her blood-daughter. “You have no one to blame for this but yourself.”
“But, mom!” She protested. “It was his idea!”
Brelak spun to face her, his eyes wide with anger. “Don’t you dare try to blame this on him! I raised you better than to claim he was asking for it!”
Solanna’s chin quivered as she recoiled from the fury on her father’s face. She took a breath, hesitated, and then hung her head with a miserable nod.
Brelak turned back to the door, squared his shoulders, and knocked.
A moment later, the door opened to reveal Mrs. McClendon smiling at the three of them. “Well, this is a lovely surprise! What brings you three by our humble home?”
Brelak forced a smile onto his face. “Good afternoon, Jennifer. I’m afraid we have something rather… delicate to discuss.”
Jennifer’s brow furrowed, but she nodded. “Won’t you all come in?”
As she led them into the house, Brelak couldn’t help but notice how cramped it felt. There was a bench by the door with shelves built into it that were filled with shoes. A coat rack stood beside it, holding plastic looking jackets in bright yellows and oranges, in addition to the closet that was built into the wall. Nearly every square foot of wall space was taken up by something, varying between bookshelves that reached nearly to the ceiling, framed pictures of the children that marched back through the years, or examples of art from across a wide variety of styles.
“I apologize for the mess,” Jennifer said as she hefted a strange looking contraption that appeared to be made mostly of brown leather off the table and set it on the floor. “Would you like some tea or coffee?”
Brelak glanced at Ny’xie as Jennifer disappeared into the kitchen. “I… er, that would be lovely, thank you.”

Like the title says thinking about buying one of these has 110 hours use and will be around $2500. I have a steep hilly property with plenty of rough ground to mow.

Hey all. This is pretty much the epitome of a first world problem but haven’t been able to get a clean one phase using middle tree hammer on a O2P setup. For clarification:
I am running middle tree Sunbreaker with catapult lift and fusion grenades (sometimes use thermite) also I have charged melee bound to a key to avoid uncharged melees
I am running Synthoceps with little regard to my stat distribution (4/5/8/3/7/3)
Mods: hands on x2, melee well maker, thermoclastic blooming, well of life, protective light, elemental light, withering heat, thermoclastic strike (in that order starting from head piece)
Primary weapon is more or less of no consequence, I’ve been using a Fatebringer or chroma rush. My energy is a found verdict with ALH/O2P and power is tractor cannon with catalyst
In regards to Phry’zhia, assuming it’s damage phase: I have up 3x roaring flames, bionic enhancement (at first I wasn’t leaving any thralls up to proc this but do now) usually CWL as well but shouldn’t have a bearing on DPS as far as I’m aware.
Rotation is as follows: will all buffs listed, I tractor cannon>O2P>hammer>hammer>O2P>hammer>hammer>O2P>hammer>hammer repeat
The funny thing is I’m getting the appropriate numbers (~374k per hammer) as far as I can tell but struggle to keep the rotation up. I’ve also started circling around the backside of where he spawns in during damage to avoid being stomped off the map. Closest I’ve gotten is about 75% of his health in one go.
Any advice? Maybe I’m not using TC enough or my rotation needs to be tightened up? Or is there an RNG element to the encounter I’m overlooking? Thanks for any info / input/ criticisms have a good one :)
EDIT: we did it boys! Got the one phase! For those curious I used the same loadout as Saltagreppa (changed out withering heat for supercharged and put on a shotgun dex mod. I also switched out found verdict for a xenoclast with grave robber and O2P. That seemed to make a huge difference, especially on the last second refresh of RF that also reloaded my shotgun. Super stoked! Thanks to everyone who gave input! :)
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Sadly Christmas on my farm won't be like that. It will be like every other day, only with added mud. When I first became a horny-handed son of the soil two years ago, I figured that winter would be an easy season. The sheeps would be pregnant, the cows would be in their house, the crops would be growing on their own, the hens would be standing around waiting to be eaten by a fox, the badgers would be spraying TB around the fields and I'd be in Val d'Isere, living it large on the fat subsidy cheque.
That's not how it turned out, though, partly because the subsidy cheque is now smaller than a prewar postal order and soon it'll be even smaller than that. And also because winter is actually the season when you go out into the cold and the rain and the mud and do all the unpleasant jobs you should have done in August while you were waiting for the crops to dry.
Mostly this involves looking at broken fences and gates, hoping that somehow they will mend themselves. They can't, so I have to do it and, amazingly, this is a skill I don't have. While I've always said that hammers can be used to fix everything up to but not including a child's poorly eye, I've never really understood how they may be used to drive a nail into a piece of wood.
On the first blow I always catch the side of the nailhead, causing the nail itself to bend. And then I imagine that if I strike the opposite side of the head with the same level of ferocity, the kink will straighten out. It never does

Introduction
So on this sub, there is a broad consensus that free trade is good. I am not going to challenge that as a whole, because I agree with it. For my country, the UK, and all developed, middle income and rapidly developing countries, I think free trade is certainly advantageous for boosting growth, for all the reasons we know so well. I count myself among the free trade advocates in general, and this effortpost isn't trying to dispute that.
Again, I do not hate free trade. I know this stuff is controversial on here, but hopefully that's clear.
I am however, going to look at the limitations of free trade taken as an absolute in the specific context of early stages of economic development. I think the broad benefits of free trade have obscured that there is significant evidence, backed by a lot of scholarship, that total free trade can be disadvantageous for some of the least developed economies. Based on historical examples from the first industrial revolution up to the present day, I am going to show that there is a trend of successful economic development beginning with specific protectionist measures to nurture infant industries. I would go so far to say that protectionism can very often be advantageous for a very underdeveloped country seeking to begin its industrialisation. Hold your downvotes for now, please! I know this may be controversial for some, but I assure you it's interesting and may change your views.
Also, since I'll be using a very broad set of historical examples, I may not cite every fact I put with proper academic sources. With the stuff I've specifically studied I'll seek to be more thorough, but forgive me if I just copy information from wikipedia, I hope that's alright - this isn't an academic article after all.
The Theory
So the basic theory behind free trade is based on comparative advantage. If you don't know what it is, probably best to look it up and look for someone who can explain it better than me, but in basic terms, different countries are better at different industries because of the differences between them (natural resources, climate, wages, labour expertise). If there was zero trade, every country would have to make a little bit of every product, even the stuff they're bad at making or don't have the resources or expertise to do so. Captain Harmon recording. It’s been a week since the technicians and those peculiar AI folks finished their work. They’ve all departed but assured me they’ll be keeping close tabs on us while we do a few milk-runs in the local cluster.
So far I don’t have much to report. Before the change we’d all just say ‘computer,’ and use it like an electronic personal assistant. Not to say it didn’t have a personality, but it had an artificial flavor to it no one could ignore for long. Now? They’ve tied it—sorry, her—into enhanced networks of sensors and rewired the interfaces, the way she processes feedback. She is the ship now, and it’s already helped us discover some micro-fractures in the hull and some hot-spots that could indicate failing conduit.
Addressing her has been a bit confusing. Abyssal Melody doesn’t really roll off the tongue, and we soon settled on calling her Abby. We’ve received instructions to engage with Abby as another crewmate, and I must admit it’s surreal. How often do you have a crewmate the size of an apartment building, much less one you live inside? It’s early though, we’ll adjust.

Engineer Radcliffe reporting. There was an incident today involving Abby. Crew reported weird sounds piped in over the com system in isolated parts of the ship and cabins with sole occupants. Hissing noises and modulating warbles. Also the lights started behaving oddly, stranding such isolated crew in an illuminated oasis while the rest of the corridor or room went pitch-black. Two other crew and I ran several diagnostics before Abby intervened and admitted she was responsible. I’m just going to clip in the conversation with Abby rather than try to recount it.
“What do you mean you’re responsible, Abby?”
“I thought the crew would like to hear the actual melody of the abyss, given my name. The sound of stellar dust against my deflector screens and the play of radiation across the shields modulated into your audible range created something I found quite beautiful.”
“That’s, interesting yeah, but why only play it in virtually-deserted parts of the ship? Or yourself, I guess, sorry. And what about the lights?”
“I didn’t want to interrupt anyone, so I only played it where crew-members were working or relaxing alone. The lights were simply an energy-saving initiative. Did I ‘screw up?’ I’ve been wondering: is success to ‘screw down?’”

Know the map
I will recommend everyone to be familiar with the difficult maps on Recruit before doing them on Veteran.
Ridden can spawn outside windows. A house with no entryway makes a good defensible position. Often time locked supply rooms make a good defense point (with some exceptions, such as the sewer level after the police station). On maps with a timed horde mechanic, use those to defend before moving on.
Sound mechanics plays an important role in the game.
Characters give audio clues about things you may have missed. Specials spawning, med station, someone low on ammo, etc. If someone is trapped, they may spam markers to let you know where they are and you can hear the marker being dropped.
Beyond just what you hear, sound can be used to "pull" riddens. Shoot below an alarmed door to have riddens break the door! Shoot far ahead into the ground to have the ridden rush towards your more defensible position!
Every group should have two toolkits out of the saferoom.
Take 1-1 for example, a toolkit can be applied on the bridge to bypass the horde trigger, and there is a locked room right after the bridge. Toolkits always pay your investment in copper, and healing stations are essential.
Other good uses of the toolkit include:
RNG shortcut at A Call to Arms to skip half the level (where you have to break the best) straight to the residential district
Raising the gate w/o trigger the alarm before releasing the boat.
Speeds up the ferry so riddens cannot attack players on the platform.
In later levels, between burning/poisonous enemies, access to the med station becomes almost mandatory for the success of the run.
Take things slow, but not too slow
Some maps are very generous in your progression speeds, but some others require you to push at a very steady pace. Seriously, you dont want to spend a minute exploring every inch of the map when a new horde spawns every 2 minutes. The Handy Man (where you have to find Bob's Arm) is a good test for that: move too slow and the hordes will drain your resources. Move too fast and you will end up getting overran.
Be a team player
Give meds to your doc to heal you, you get a lot more healing out of each use (the whole party too!). A doc can even remove trauma damage with medkits.
While i respect various playstyles, some characters are just better at certain roles. Don't play Jim if you are going to melee, don't just sit back and shoot as Holly, dont play Doc is you
