A list of puns related to "Gibson Sg"
I read article after article, post after post saying that the headstocks of Gibson guitars are incredibly fragile.
I saved money for a long time to buy this guitar, but now I'm afraid that I will buy it and it will break it, like, the next day. I'm cautious and all but accidents do happen.
I primarily want a guitar to play heavy stuff (old Sabbath, Mastodon, etc).
What's your opinion on Gibson's headstocks? Do you suggest any other guitar for the type of music I want to play?
As a guitarist myself I find it hilariously accurate that instead of persisting in selling this absolute grail of an axe, which could more than solve all of his financial woes, he takes the first opportunity he has to defraud his submissive roommate (Mr. Schneebly) for $650 a week as a substitute teacher rather than lose the guitar.
In the scene where he half heartedly attempts to hock the piece of rock nβ roll history over the phone he also adds that Hendrix played this guitar, which is partially true. Hendrix played a β67 SG with a different finish and set up.
I love this stupid movie and Jack Black is the man.
<edited for clarity>
I have a 1961 gibson SG (yes it says Les Paul) and I wanted to clean it up a bit. Just get the grime off it. But the finish is spider webbing and the past owner played it lefty which scraped up above the pick gaurd exposing the unfinished wood. What products or techniques would you all suggest to use just to spiff it up some? Couldn't post pics yet. Maybe bc I just joined?
Jerry used a Gibson SG before using his famous strats for some time.
This is the guitar that I'm talking about
I was just wondering if someone has any links to videos of Jerry playing specifically Country songs (El Paso, You Win Again, etc.) on his Gibson SG.
Thank you!
When I was younger my dream guitar was always the Gibson SG bass ( I blame guitar hero) Now that I play bass I feel like I can live that dream by getting the bass form of it
However it is pricey and it's a shortscale.
Has anyone every played with one?
or any thoughts on shortscale basses ?
I know this isn't true but my mind always thinks a short scale would be worse because youre more limited in range
Iβm looking to make my first expensive guitar purchase and Iβm wondering where I should go to get a good model. I usually bought from Guitar Center but Iβm not sure if thatβs the best place for a $2000 in terms of making sure the guitar is set up correctly from the factory, having good customer service in case thereβs an issue, and getting a fresh model without any nicks.
I know Sweetwater posts pics of the exact model theyre selling you and supposedly do a huge inspection before sale, but who knows if they actually do it and the skill level of the people doing the inspection.
Are there any other places I should be looking at to get a new SG 61?
PS, the 61 still comes with a hard case right? I know the modern comes with a soft but sturdy gig bag but I saw 61 unboxings from a few years ago and they shipped with the Gibson hard case
I'd been wanting an SG since I first got into AC/DC at age 14-ish. Ordered one the other day from CME and am overjoyed. It just feels like it wants to be played loud.
I don't have many quibbles with the Maestro system (although half the reason I got it is for looks). I'll probably still get some locking tuners/etc. in the future though.
I recently sold my Highway One Telecaster and was looking for an Explorer or an SG Standard as a second option. Two different sellers with Explorers both snoozed when I messaged them. This guitar was up for sale and the seller was much quicker to the draw. She just got a fresh set of strings and sounds good.

first - apologies to the mods for me not reading the rules. sorry about that.
I looked at a 2021 SG standard today (used). When playing around I noticed something really strange on the volume pots. That, or maybe it is supposed to be like this.
With both volumes all the way to zero and the switch in the middle, if I rolled the bridge up, I got zero sound, if I then rolled the neck up, I got sound. It was as if the neck volume didnβt work. Here's what's really weird: If I put them both to zero again and rolled the neck up, I got nothing. If I then rolled the bridge up, I got sound.
They both worked they way they should when the switch was either on neck OR bridge.
When the switch is in the middle, shouldnβt it be a blend of the two pickups bassed on the positions of the volume pots?
This is my first guitar with two volume controls/
The only other thing I though was that one takes over as a master or something.
Thanks for any help.
Iβve had a Gibson sg faded for over a decade, and while it definitely holds sentimental value, it mostly sits in its case. Recently Iβve started thinking of repainting it, but was wondering if any steps would be different from a regular guitar since it doesnβt have a finish. Iβve never repainted a guitar before, would I need to sand it down to bare wood? Any tips or advice would be great!
Its my first model and render without any tutorials.
