A short graphical analysis why I think it's unfair to blame Bottas for leaving the gap on the outside in three panels.

The brief analysis from the first moments of the start: https://i.imgur.com/oEA7kJp.png

Taken from this video: https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.race-start-replay-polesitter-bottas-gets-spun-around-as-verstappen-snatches.42kkEQ5VEfemgWCi695HIc.html

Bottas had to make a split decision between covering the middle, or covering the outside.

With Hamilton's trajectory moving towards the inside, he was the main cause of gaps appearing in the front line. If Bottas hadn't moved to the middle, Verstappen would've forced himself between him and Hamilton.

If anything, blame Hamilton (however, I still think it is unfair to blame anyone in this case).

Thoughts?

Gap analysis: what are the ingredients for good demand planning?

I feel like our demand planning output is not good enough. I know it’s foolish to try to target 100% accuracy, but I think our accuracy is far below our competitors based on publicly reported metrics.

So I wanted to poll this group - what are the key ingredients that every high performing demand planning group has? For reference, I work in a global consumer electronics supply chain, product lifecycles are 18-24 months, heavy seasonal demand.

Thanks in advance for the discussion!

Edit/additional info: we ship a couple of million units per year, we use SAP’s IBP for supply and demand planning and not much else. A lot of our planners are frustrated with IBP and use excel as a workaround. Master data is a common pain point. We have a data science team that isn’t performing much better than our traditional demand planners using a hybrid CPFR approach.

Survey: A Bayesian analysis of the true gap between a player's Chess.com and LiChess rating.

Hi Guys,

I'm an avid chess player and am currently going through my masters degree. As part of a project, using Bayesian Inference I want to try and predict someones LiChess rating from their Chess.com and vice versa, purely as a test case for Bayesian inference.

As such I'm circulating this survey in a few places just to collect data for this project. If you have time it would be a big help if you could fill it out!

Click me here!

If there is any interest in it I will post my results here when they are complete!

Analysis: Game coin gaps, and why we shouldn't change Buildmart scoring system

As we all know, there are various games where, if a team pop offs enough, they can make a huge comeback, like Survival Games. Also, when I saw some posts about Buildmart scoring, I got curious, and decided to see the gaps between each placement in games, to see if Buildmart is really flawed score wise. In this post, I decided to look at some vods and stats, to see the numbers.

Very random, I know.

The PvP games

In MCC, we have 3 PvP centered minigames (BB, SB, SG), each offering opportunities to get some good point gaps (specially SG now with its 70 coins/kill instead of 35).

I will analyze the gaps between 1st, 2nd and 3rd for these games, and try to use one of the most recent events.

Also, will add 9th place in the games, just to compare. Will not use 10th place, as they may have experienced some technical issues, or in some events, the team in 10th isn't balanced in comparison to other teams.

Also, I'm using the SG updated stats from the user Arandomfan168, so go check the post after this!

Battle Box (MCC 15) Sky Battle (MCC 16) Survival Games (17)
1st 1715 1698 1891
2nd 1440 1268 1621
3rd 1380 1212 1374
9th 675 692 634
Gap (1-2, 1-3, 1-9) 275 / 335 / 1040 430 / 486 / 1006 270 / 517 / 1257

The movement games

For movement based games, we have 4 games (AR, PT, TGTTOSAWAF, HITW).

In Ace Race, you either get a considerable gap (MCC 15 Yellow, 16 Pink) or there's no gap at all (MCC 17 and other older MCCs). The scores were tweaked a lot in the past, so I will just use the most recent canon one.

As for TGTTOSAWAF, we just had the new score changes in MCCR, but that wasn't the best event to show what gaps we could have in a regular MCC. I will use MCCRs score, but be aware that that event is not the best example.

Ace Race (17) Parkour Tag (16) TGTTOS (MCCR) HITW (MCC 17)
1st 1235 1449 1946 1362
2nd 1170 1401 1742 1232
3rd 1120 1391 1687 1168
9th 800 685 390* 712
Gap (1-2, 1-3, 1-9) 65 / 115 / 435 48 / 58 / 764 204 / 259 / 1556* 130 / 194 / 650

*the gaps looked fine between 1-4th, below that... Not that accurate.

Overall, the gaps are small is some MCCs, and it really depends on the teams in the event. For example, in MCC 15, 1st and 2nd had a gap of 460 coins. In MCC 16, 1st and 2nd had a 414 coin gap. Maybe MCC 17 was an outlier, who knows.

Communication/Misc games

In this category, we have 3 games (BSABM, GR, SoT).

[Question] Mann-Kendall trend analysis on data sets with large time gap?

Disclaimer: I am NOT a statistician. I am an environmental scientist. But I have data on groundwater quality and the state regulator (Arizona Department of Environmental Quality) asked me to prepare some trend analyses on contaminant concentrations in several groundwater monitoring wells over time. My data set extends from 2004 to October 2021; however, there is a gap from 2010 to 2018 with no data. I did Mann-Kendall trend analyses on several different well/contaminant concentrations, using the complete data set. But ADEQ is now saying I should only use the data since 2018, because the large time gap makes M-K inappropriate.

My questions: is that true? Does a big time gap between data points make M-K the wrong analysis? And if so, what analysis might be more appropriate & why?

Thank you!

RKT $15.29 Gap Analysis

On yesterday’s open RKT left a gap between 15.29 and 15.41. While I remain bullish, gaps are often filled, and RKT has a history of filling its gaps eventually.

I’ll be closely watching the price action if we return to this area. If we close the gap and reverse shortly after, I’ll be buying with both hands. If we drop below the gap fill I’ll be watching for a double bottom around $14.95. Below that and it could get ugly.

If you don’t believe in gap fill analysis then I’d say this is still a screaming buy at this price and to just dollar cost average into shares.

Disclosure: Long 600 shares @ $21. This is not financial advice and by no means am I qualified to even begin to think I have any idea what’s going on. And for the love of god please do your own research.

ANALYSIS Paul Hasleby: Gap between Fremantle Dockers’ best and worst still too wide

https://thewest.com.au/sport/afl/paul-hasleby-gap-between-fremantle-dockers-best-and-worst-still-too-wide--c-3840609

The problem with Fremantle in 2021 was their very best was usually followed by their absolute worst. If coach Justin Longmuir can narrow that gap there is plenty for Dockers fans to look forward to in 2022.

Here’s how 2021 looked.

#THE GOOD

The youngsters in the Dockers midfield took another step forward – Andrew Brayshaw, Caleb Serong and Sean Darcy in particular.

They showed in the absence of Nat Fyfe that they can step up to the mark when the captain and David Mundy are no longer permanent fixtures in the middle.

Darcy now sits in the top four ruckmen in the competition behind only Max Gawn, Nic Naitanui and Brodie Grundy and with improvements in fitness it should take him into the top one or two next season and beyond.

The development of his forward craft was a bonus.

Hayden Young missed a large slice of the season through injury but what he did show at the bookends of the season when he played was he has the guile and skill to move upfield.

While his incisive kicking and intercept marking make him a good fit at half-back, the Dockers are blessed for riches in defence, with Heath Chapman and Brandon Walker, able to provide the run and carry.

Wing seems a logical place for Young next season. The way I see it, they have two wing spots available, unless they bring in fresh talent in the draft or trade period.

The exposure to forward Josh Treacy was invaluable for a player elevated off the rookie list.

He still has plenty of work to do and was gifted games at times purely because there were no other options and needs to find more of the footy, but showed in patches he has the want to hunt the footy and hurt the opposition.

#THE BAD

There is still a disconnect inside forward-50 that needs to be addressed over the summer once again.

The poor skill execution that was highlighted when Ross Lyon departed took a small step in the right direction, but there is plenty of room for improvement.

Goalkicking is a priority – in 15 games of 22 the Dockers kicked more behinds than goals. It cost them this year and will continue to if they don’t put some time into it.

Their pressure acts also need addressing, particularly forward of centre.

The focus needs to be on retaining the ball in their forward 50 because it’s been too easy for opposition teams to go coast-to-coast.

While there is backline depth and the word on J

2021 might be the most competitive season ever (at least in qualifying) - a historical analysis of gaps to pole position

With how close qualifying has been this year, I wanted to take a look at historical data and see how this season compares to the last few decades.

Methodology: I looked at the gap to pole position of the top 10 drivers for each race in terms of % (instead of seconds). And then made a season average gap for P2, for P3 etc. All data used is from StatsF1.

Excluded P9 and P10 from the chart to make it more compact.

It's immediately clear that so far 2021 is by far the most competitive season in the V6 turbo-hybrid era. Looking back through the V8 era, only 2009 and 2012 come close.

Going back even further to 1995 and looking at averages of all positions from P2 to P10, we still have no match for 2021:

Different colors for different engine eras.

I haven't looked yet at pre-1995 data, but I kinda doubt we'll see a year as close as 2021 or 2009. So the current season, if it keeps going like this (and that's a big if, of course), might just end up being the closest one in history. At least in qualifying, that is.

Here's the original data:

Red, orange and yellow are the three smallest gaps, grey is the largest.

I hope all of this makes sense and you find it interesting. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions! Cheers!
