In There's Something About Mary (1998), the detectives that interrogate Ted at the police station are named Stabler and Krevoy. This is a reference to Brad Krevoy and Steve Stabler, who produced the first two movies made by the Farrelly brothers. v.redd.it/5wy10vd5dk381

please forgive me if I'm the millionth person to suggest this, but I humbly submit, "the Farrelly brothers"

First film: Dumb and Dumber (discussion of Jim Carrey's 1994 could sustain an entire episode.) Followed by weird kingpin and there's something about Mary

Then the slump of shallow Hal, stuck on You, on the colossally terrible Dumb and Dumber too

It may be one of the less popular Farrelly Brothers films, but I think Shallow Hal (2001) is not only hilarious but a moral take on body image, and a charming everyone should see.

I rewatched my favourite comedy movie, Dumb and Dumber yesterday and it kind of got me on a Farrelly Brothers marathon. I used to just see Shallow Hal as a generic over the top early 2000s comedy film, but rewatching it again now I realize that it has a lot of charm and emotion to it that isn't common in comedy movies now.

The film uses the whole idea of the main character seeing the beautiful good "inside" of people instead of their outside appearance. Or in the case of bad people, seeing them as ugly. And there's something so funny about how over the top they go with that dynamic, but as you go through the movie, you start to realize that there are many people like this in our actual society, and you start to really feel for them instead of seeing them as comedic.

In a lot of scenes, there's no humour at all, it's just seeing Hal starting to realize how bad his view of the world was before. One scene in particular that always gets me, where Hal revisits the children's medical ward Rosemary works at.

With the other Farrelly Brothers movies, I've also noticed how much character development happens with not just the main characters, but also side characters. Like Hal's best friend Maurizio, has a full character arc completed within the film as well. The writing is really good for what you'd expect as a goofy over the top comedy.

Just worth a rewatch if you haven't seen it before or in a while. If you have time, also check out Me, Myself, and Irene (2000). I think it's the weakest of their movies, but there are some great gem jokes scattered throughout the movie.

A Discussion of the Farrelly Brothers

I know for the most part, everyone claims they enjoy their movies, and with their resume, it is difficult not to. While I agree with the consensus that Dumb and Dumber will forever be their biggest masterpiece, I feel there's other films of theirs that were very overlooked. Me, Myself and Irene being one of them. What does Reddit think about the Farrelly Bros and their films less praised?
