A list of puns related to "Evenhanded"
I'm going to get downvoted for this..... I'm tired of hearing people complain about golem so I'm going to say that although the card is strong, its not killing nerfable (in other words, it doesn't need to be killed by making it a 4 power 2/2) i think the current suggested nerf will kill the card and it doesn't deserve that, while i agree it has issues, I'm not going to sit here and say why it really shouldn't be nerfed (even though i think it shouldn't) so instead I'm going to give alternate possible nerfs that make much more sense than killing the card
anyways heres better ideas
- make it a coward (yes this is what direwolf calls it in patchnotes)
basically make it so it cant block, this would cause the early game blocker status of the card to be nonexistent, the card still gets to be a good card but the decks involved still die to aggro as they should
- make it so it deals 1 damage to itself at the end of the turn
same thing as making it a coward, but essentially making it a spell
- make the restriction also apply to the market
this would make vinegrafter less potent in making certain plays, i should not be able to grab champion of cunning in an even deck
- make the market unusable if golem is in the deck
this is probably for the best, stops all market shenanigans from happening
So...seeing the results of yesterday's tourney...is it time to set evenhanded golem into the sun?
See, the thing is, as time passes, the drawbacks of running an "even only" deck get less and less. With set 9, wasteland broker removed the primary conceit of evenhanded decks--no market access. Thankfully, that card got nerfed to at least die to Jekk/Kenna and not make it so overbearing as a market access utility unit.
However, VINE GRAFTER, on the other hand, is indeed a unit that goes much further into removing both weaknesses of evenhanded decks:
A) No market access
B) Behind on tempo by not being allowed to play on curve.
When you can just slam a vine grafter on turn 2 (or 3, if you slammed golem), that weakness of losing tempo early on and getting snowballed on just vanishes. Add in Grenahen (who I will continue to refer to as AngryChicken because I miss my old teammates on OND), and, we see where this is going.
But IMO, this is more a symptom and example than saying "this or that card is imba, nerf".
That is, as time passes, we're only going to get more and more good even-costed cards. Sometimes, they might even have an odd alternative cost somewhere, such as Tamarys's shift that allows evenhanded decks to play "on curve".
Ultimately, what it boils down to is that there's a unit that doesn't care about your influence, draws 2 cards for 2 power (and this is VERY important because it makes 2 power hands that much more of an easy keep), and can trade with early-game units such as snowcrust yeti. Couple that with other utility units that stonewall aggro (whether it's grenahen and vinegrafter, or who knows what else in the future), even-costed market access, and at some point, the weakness of running "even only" is going to be a mere formality, while the upside of an unconditional "2.5 for 1" will remain. And yes, this is more than a 2-for-1. Golem is not just "2-cost wisdom", but an actual body.
My question is: is it time to do what needed to have been done long ago and make golem a 4 power card so that, at the least, we no longer have the case of "turn 2 golem, snap keep"?

> This is one of many reasons why I barely play anymore. I logged into Eternal today for the first time in two weeks, played a few matches, lost to even feln, and lost interest once again. While I'm not denying that there are some cards that are legitimately unbalanced, I think DWD's bala

Evenhanded Golem has always been a polarizing topic for players β some really like it, some really, really donβt like it. As with any card players really donβt like, youβll occasionally see calls for nerfs and the like, however, such posts often focus on how the cards feels to play against or only briefly cover why the card is too strong. I believe that Evenhanded Golem has problems beyond pure card power, and I wanted to lend my voice to the discussion by attempting to highlight some of these wider issues.
My understanding is that Evenhanded Golem was originally created as an alternative to Merchants, which were in turn designed to give decks extra flexibility and power. You were offered extremely powerful card draw at the cost of loss of access to answers from market, (then) severe deckbuilding restrictions, and a higher level of variance from the loss of merchant consistency.
Broad stroke #1: Evenhanded Golem no longer achieves its design goals.
It seems most people agree EHG should be nerfed, but I haven't found much discussion about how. Here are some ideas, with the assumption that the card text may not contain odd numbers (for thematic reasons). Which do you like?
I'll reserve my own opinion for discussion below, so as to not taint the results. ;)
#Hello World.
tl;dr at the bottom of the post
I've played Eternal for a fair bit of time, and I really like the game as a whole. I think the mechanics and most cards are very well designed. The game has a lot of potential to grow and I hope to be there for it. I'm the kind of player who gets to Masters, usually in Throne and sometimes in Expedition every month and plays whichever deck I like once I've secured my rewards. However I've noticed something of a hyrdra sprouting from one innocuous little golem. Evenhanded Golem has become a massive issue. This card has warped the game's balance since its introduction a year ago and has still survived off of 1 direct heavy nerf and 8 indirect nerfs until now and I don't see it changing even with the recent direct nerf. In this post I will explain all of the decks Golem has enabled during it's year-long reign, why the math of the mulligan system means that Golem at 2 will always be busted, and how to fix the card.
This is gonna be a long one, I have a lot to cover and I'm most concise writer (thanks homework page requirements). My apologies ahead of time. Feel free to skip the history of all the Evenhanded decks part. It's probably a bit overdrawn, but it's kinda crazy how many other cards fell for the sins of Golem.
#A Year of Evenhanded Golem
Evenhanded Golem is a fairly innocuous card in the grand scheme of things. Released on May 9th, 2019 in all of its original glory, nobody would doubt it's power in a deck surrounded by it, I mean, a 2.5 for one? that's sweet. But it wasn't the card ever winning games, and has so far escaped with only taking 2 of 10 nerfs surrounding this card. Even still, this card has proven to be a constant part of ladder cards based on its ability to be played in any deck archetype.
Admittedly this first one is a bit of a stretch, but it will serve as an example of how quickly after release that Golem took root in the playerbase. 6/6/19: Next balance patch after its introduction, Vicious Highwayman is nerfed out of the pre-nerf Haunted Scream range to cost 5 instead of 4 (old scream was cost 2 but only hit cost 4 units or below) but gets compensated by going up to a 5/3. Even then, players were commenting on the nerfs affecting their Even Highwayman lists. After seeing some form of constant recursion decks with Dark Return and/or Scream, Golem gains voidbound 6/25/19. I
... keep reading on reddit β‘Anyone found a good replacement for blightmoth? The change to cost screwed up the evenhanded golem and I've been looking for something to swap in its place. I've been trying out celebration, as this deck tends to sit with a lot of unused power while you're waiting for a Rolant, but it hasn't done a whole lot. Being able to drop in a blightmoth > devour > corruption > last chance > repeat has been very strong in gauntlets and celebration just doesn't come close.
The alternative is to drop the evenhanded golem all together, but not sure what that would look like. I've been working off of this list.

The influence is a little wonky sometimes and it takes a little bit of playing to get used to. im not completely settled on a power base currently, but hitting double J for icaria on 2, quadruple S on 4 for rolant and six S for icaria on 6 is somewhat hard to do.
im still working on the list, but as of right now i feel its in a sufficient state to at the very least share with others. feel free to tinker with it and DM me, or post revisions here, id appreciate.
After 2016, the DNC argued in federal court that they are a private club with the right to select candidates in smoke-filled back rooms. The case against them by Bernie supporters for rigging the primary was dismissed.
The DNC and their allies on Wall Street and in the media are again working hard to defeat Bernie. If they succeed, rewarding their corruption with our votes is the definition of insanity, i.e. doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. IOW, nothing will ever change.
If they block the only nominee who actually represents OUR interests, they donβt deserve our votes.

It's just so stupid in this format.*
They could replace it with any 2/2 blank rare, except that there aren't any of those.
* If this was still the old days where the lists were just every card, that would be fine. But these new lists are hand-picked. There's just no reason for this.
The new set came out yesterday and there are a lot of new cards and tools to look at.
One of the more interesting and powerful is Evenhanded Golem: A 2 cost factionless 2/2 with the summon ability of draw 2 cards if your deck has no odd costed cards in it. This means that you must build your deck to include only even costed units, depriving you of markets as the standout among others.
Firebombs have been around for the entirety of eternal, and with Dark Frontier we also see a new card effect similar to Rain of Frogs: Royal Decree. The difference is instead of 0 cost frogs with Destiny you get Seek Power.
When these cards enter your deck you no longer gain access to the draw 2 effect of Evenhanded Golem.
My question to you, Reddit, and to DWD is, should these effects stop the effect of Evenhanded Golem, a card that already requires significant deck building restrictions? Or should Evenhanded Golem be changed to say something to the effect of the starting deck having no odd costed cards?
Was trying out a evenhanded Golem deck i made and i had the site on the field and when i play the golem it effect didn't go off. Which i figure might of happen since it reduce the cost of playing cards by 1 and when the game checks for the cards cost it also apply and debuff or buff form other sources (units/relics/sites) so all my even card cost were consider odd.
