My sister filed a case against me in court. Any English speaking lawyer / legal counsel here who can help me with some advice?

Hey guys.

Here's the backdrop: I'm the only son and have a younger sister. My father passed away a few months ago (may Allah have mercy on him). My sister has known this guy that she wants to marry since the age of 15. She's been in touch with him since 11+ years. I know the guy well enough to know that he used to run with the wrong crowd and my father outright rejected and forbade my sister from marrying him. After this, there were multiple occasions when the guy confronted my father and almost even got physical once. He used to threaten and reprimand my parents for refusing to let my sister talk to him. This happened like 6-8 years ago.

I honestly had no idea she was still in touch with the guy and all this has happened until after my father's death. My mother informed me of all this, since I am now her Wali, and told me that my sister was hell-bent on marrying the same guy. I wanted to be just and fair and told my mother that it's possible that in the past few years the guy turned over a new leaf and isn't how he used to be so I'll give him a chance and meet him. After my meeting with him I was convinced that he hasn't changed much and is still the same guy and so I declined his proposal and informed him of my decision on WhatsApp respectfully. The guy thereafter approached an Islamic scholars and tried to use him to convince me to give him a chance. Me and my father's brother talked to the scholars and told him about the guy's previous antics. After hearing this the scholar told the guy he has no right to force me to get my sister married to him and he should look for someone else.

Today I was surprised to see a message from the Ministry of Justice stating that a case seeking justice be done has been filed against me by a lawyer (most likely the guys friend) on behalf of my sister. I saw further details by logging into the taradhi portal. I know I'm not in the wrong here and have valid reasons for rejecting the guy. My mother also despises him and the Islamic scholar told me that he told the guy that he's in the wrong.

If there's someone who can offer me advice in navigating this affair, I'd be forever grateful. I'm honestly in a severe financial crisis following the death of my dad and can't afford to pay for legal consultation. But if someone chooses to guide me and help me a bit, by Allah I will forever be greatful to you. I can share all details and whatever is necessary to prove and validate my end of the story. You may even talk to my mo

Why do all the guests sound like theyโ€™re from the hood? This isnโ€™t indicative of broader society as a whole. Half these chicks couldnโ€™t give a court deposition to save their lives, their English is fucking terrible.

Iโ€™m assuming if you call a broker in miami and tell them โ€œuh yeaaaa im finnna get muh bread rightโ€ then theyโ€™ll know what you mean?? I sure as fuck canโ€™t understand half the broads they bring on. โ€œShe belongs to the streetsโ€ indeed. Also theyโ€™re way too loose with who gets to drop the N-bomb. I wanna see some ancestry.com DNA tests on some of these Caramel-characters who are possibly just Latino but pass themselves off as part-black so they can drop the N-bomb with impunity. Everyone sounds like they come from the worst parts of Chicago but they live in one of the richest cities in America? Please explain.

Do I have to go to court to declare a contract void? [I live in Scotland but it is with regard to an English Company]

I agreed a contract for a service which cost ยฃ45 per month in January 2021, The first bill in February I was charged ยฃ65. I contacted the company and they refunded themoney and said that they fixed the issue. I have recently noticed that they did not fix the issue and Since March they have continued to charge ยฃ65.

I wrote to complain in October and they admitted that they had taken too much. However, they refused to lower the monthly cost to ยฃ45 as per the original agreement.

This months bill has just been paid, again at ยฃ65.

I want to void the contract with them as, in my mind they are in clear breech of the terms which were agreed. My question is; do I have to go to court to void the contract or can I simply write to them saying that I am declaring the contract void and am cancelling the direct debit.

In all honesty I can't afford to take them to court but I am not happy in continuing to pay them as I'm disgusted at the stance they have taken. If I do end up in a legal battle I don't want jeapordise any future outcome for me by my actions.

ANy advice would be appreciated.

Portuguese / Spanish / English Iraq court rejects Iran-backed parties' appeal against election vote

Iraq's Supreme Court on Monday rejected appeals lodged by Iran-backed Shia factions against the results of a parliamentary election, the chief judge said, derailing their attempt to overturn the vote in which they performed poorly, reports Reuters.

The Iran-backed factions, including powerful armed groups, had alleged irregularities in the October 10 ballot.

The biggest winner in the election was the movement led by Shia cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, an opponent of both Iranian and US influence in Iraq, which won 73 seats, more than any other group in the fragmented 329-seat house.

In English Colonial America, was there a Supreme Court in England?

I'm just trying to figure out how much guidance American Courts took from England at that time. My understanding is that Colonial Americans thought of themselves as Englishmen, but it's not clear to me how they were bounded to English law. Specifically, could a court in England overrule courts in America?

Why is past tense in court different from normal English?

I was watching the arraignment of the Michigan killer and kept hearing phrases like โ€œdid causeโ€ and โ€œdid commitโ€. Why canโ€™t they just say โ€œcausedโ€ and โ€œcommitted?โ€ Seems like it would be so much easier to understand for everyone without having to decipher Shakespeare.
