People In Northern Ireland should be educated on how the Republic’s healthcare works

It’s high time the discussion is brought forward about how the healthcare system works in the republic.

The political sphere is rapidly changing in Northern Ireland and it looks ever more likely that a border poll could occur with within the next few years.

A common problem with this discussion for people who are undecided in their opinions tends to be the Republic of Ireland’s healthcare. People tend to remain tied to the NHS without even knowing how the healthcare may look in a united ireland. For example, did you know While state-subsidised healthcare is universal, it is subsidised in two tiers. Waged citizens earning below a certain threshold, currently about 200 euros a week (Β£177), are entitled to a medical card from the HSE. This allows the holder to receive many health services, including GP visits, free of charge. Generally, a dependent spouse or partner and/or children are also entitled to receive free services, and British citizens with a free Ehic card receive the same benefits as an HSE medical card holder

These are the sort of meaningful discussions that would need to take place before any border poll happens. It’s beneficial for both sides to ensure they’re well educate on the matter as it might help dispel some common misconceptions and fears that would otherwise sway their decision

Huge backing for integrated schools to be main system of Northern Ireland education

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 77%. (I'm a bot)

> Almost three-quarters of people in Northern Ireland believe integrated schools should be the main model for our education system, a poll has found.

> Tuesday's poll suggests that a clear majority of the community, regardless of their political affiliation, are in favour of an integrated education system.

> Asked whether integrated schools should be the main model for our education system, 71% agreed while just 21% disagreed.

> Although a clear majority of voters want to move in the direction of an integrated education system, new integrated schools still have to be either set up by parents, or parents have to vote democratically to change the status of an existing school.

> Currently there are 68 formally integrated schools and colleges, which represent 7.5% of Northern Ireland's educational settings, educating around 25,000 children.

> "Jill Caskey, parental engagement campaign manager at the IEF, said:"The findings in this survey highlight the demand for integrated education in Northern Ireland and they should prompt our Executive to actively promote a fully integrated education system for the benefit of our entire society.

#AEVIII apth10 visits a school in Antrim and talks about LPNI contributions to education in Northern Ireland

After a speech and a tour at the hospital, apth10 uses Bus 11 yet again to walk to a nearby school, Antrim Primary School, which actually isn't nearby, and is actually nearer to the train station where he hijacked a train and the police station in which he was detained after that.

He walked around the school compounds, admiring the mini-garden that the children have made. And then he talks to the reporters. Perhaps you may be wondering why I am walking around this place. Education is the backbone of society, while schools are the foundation of civilisation. My party leader, /u/Borednerdygamer, is the Education Minister, therefore the people of Northern Ireland can be sure that our commitment to education is very high as well. We want the Executive to get in touch with teachers, the unsung heroes of society, to make sure that their wellbeing is being looked into, and that they will be able to experience better standards of living and a rise in pay.

This school looks very nice, and reminds me of the school that I used to go to, however we still have schools, especially in the rural areas, which lack funding and as a result lack maintenance. We will make it a priority for these funds to reach these schools and make sure that students in these schools get the opportunities they need to excel in society.

I think it shouldn’t be a secret that the previous Executive has called for examinations to be virtual by 2025. While that is a really good initiative by the Conservatives, I think that it’s also no secret that it is not very feasible as many schools do not have the resources to sustain this policy. We will promise to be in close contact with examination agencies and provide schools with these resources so that we can reach the goal of paperless examinations.

In an industry that will have to prepare the next generation with the onset of technological advances and globalization, I don’t think it is right to deny that STEM fields are going to play an ever-increasing role in society. It is imperative that we encourage the teaching and stimulation of these subjects, and the LPNI will pledge to keep in touch with examination boards and education authorities while

Sex education in Northern Ireland

Hey guys, doing a bit of research in to this for uni. Just wondering if anyone would be willing to share a bit about their experience of sex education in Northern Ireland secondary schools.

Was it taught at all? Based on a religious/ spiritual framework? Were boys and girls separated for sex education? Anything mentioned about LGBT, contraception, masturbation etc etc, anything you want to add?

Would be grateful for any responses, cheers!

Making friends in Northern Ireland

Hey guys. I tried to post on another group but didn’t get much of a response. I moved to Northern Ireland in 2017 at age 20. I’m 24 now turning 25 and I still haven’t been able to make any friends here which sucks.

I’ve tried a few things like Meetup.com along with joinin a church and a sports club but nothing came of it and I’ve since stopped going. Most people stuck with their school friends so it feels impossible to break in anywhere.

I feel feel isolated and alienated here so any suggestions would be really helpful. I’m originally from South Africa.
