A list of puns related to "Dial Up Internet Access"

$5.99/mo
Requires Internet Explorer.
(You can't actually sign up, it looks like they never switched over to TLS from SSL.)
A highlight from the FAQ:
> Fry's ISP supports V.90 technology, giving up to 53Kbps of downstream bandwidth, and up to 33.6Kbps of upstream bandwidth.
I'm here in Firefox in Windows 10 with 300 Mb/sec cable internet access. I get a little bit more than that when I use SpeedTest.net on just about any server.
For about a week or so now, every day at around this time this site becomes extremely slow. It reminds me of how slow the internet was in the mid to late 90s with dial-up access. The time is currently 7:30 PM for me. At around 10 or 11 PM, this site will go back to being fast.
What's going on here? What has changed? Why is it that having all these extra people logged in for a few hours at this time of day makes it slow down to ridiculously slow speeds now?
To whomever is in charge of this site: please undo whatever you've changed recently. It's not working out. I haven't changed anything here. I don't even have Windows Update enabled.
UPDATE: It's 6:41 AM Central Time, and reddit is getting slower and slower and slower as more and more people here in the U.S. wake up and get on here. In about 3 hours, it'll speed back up again as more and more people have left for work and school.
It hasnβt been used in years
I don't have my old drivers with me. Is it possible to just backup \system32\Drivers and \system32\DriverStore to USB. Reinstall windows. And then using device manager point to these folders to reinstall my old drivers. My drivers are currently all uptodate. Any advice, or concerns would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Solved: backing up these two folders and then using them to reinstall drivers worked very well if you are stuck. I was able to reinstall my laptop with all drivers. Probably wouldnt do it this way normally but will defo keep a backup of these folders for future use.
I need a distro compatible with an external modem which I have yet to buy becuase that is an unanswered question too.
Seriously, I could understand if HS was a mobile-only game where it required constant focus to be connected to internet or something, but I'm on PC. Why does this game require more attention than a newborn baby on a cradle when it comes to staying online? Not only it loses connection literally the moment you go take a piss break, but it doesn't even reconnect probably.
I just give up on that reconnect feature and restart HS (which, for some unexplicable reason, doesn't start by clicking on the desktop shortcut, but opens Battle.net Launcher, which then requires me to click on Play to finally start the damn game)
Here's the details: Go to this website (http://sbcyahoo.prodigy.net/openPhone/index.html) and type in the area code and exchange or the state you'll be calling from. Pick an access number nearby, and connect with your U-verse ID (whatever your e-mail username is (xxxxx@att.net)) as the username and your U-verse password as the password. Enjoy 56k! By the way, make sure that the access number you're dialing is NOT considered long distance by your phone company. Have fun!
Hi there, I've got a Windows 3.1 box that's lain unused for eons (well, about 15 years), I just woke it up today. When I turned it on I forgot that the reason it'd lain dormant for all those years is because of the accidental format that I never got around to recovering from.
So I spent the first half of my day re-installing Windows 3.1 by burning (is that the right word?) new install floppies. The next half I spent trying to get it online.
After finding a suitable free ISP (uku as I live in the UK) I tried to set up MS Internet Explorer 5. It didn't install correctly the first time, but the second time it installed fine. One thing it didn't do, however, is detect the inbuilt modem. It tried "searching for modem" and scanned all the COM ports, but it didn't find the PCI (?) one.
I know nothing about this modem at all, just that it exists. Is there anything I can do to make 3.1 recognise it?
Thanks.
EDIT: Updates.
I've tried testing the COM ports to find this modem, no luck. Tried actually dialing with the modem, that doesn't work either. I now need to rake for a driver for it without the first inkling of the model. I don't even know what model of computer it is, all I know is it says "Colossus" on it, and searching for "colossus computer" will be futile, for obvious reasons. So fuck.
Not sure if this was a thing or if it was just me. Missed a lot of key MSN, MySpace and Ebaums World time
I had 1 friend, and 1 friend only, that could somehow turn down the volume of the AOL "logging into the internet" sound. The sound came from his speakers. For me, that sound came from a hidden mystical location with no option for volume control.
Who else could turn it down?
How can we be of any assistance to them. Compile information on accessing the internet via dial up? Lists of ISPs offering free dial up connections, locations of satellite internet connections in the country? What can we do?
Honestly, just trying to load a web site is like watching paint dry.
It's like watching snails go for a stroll.
It's like watching a glacier melt.
It's like watching the entire life cycle of the sun. Billions and billions of years pass, as the sun is created, lives, and then dies, and still . . . still, I'm waiting for my internet to hurry the fuck up already.
I check with my internet provider's customer service, and they tell me "everything looks fine."
Really? This is fine?
I still use it. I need a distro compatible with an external modem which I have yet to buy because that is an unanswered question too.
