How comparable were the deaths of Che Guevara, Salvador Allende and Oscar Romero in terms of their impact on modern Latin American history?
Che Guevara is the famous Marxist revolutionary who assisted Castro in overthrowing Batista's government during the Cuban Revolution. After trying to incite an insurrection in Bolivia he was captured by American trained forces and executed by the government in 1967. His death turned him into a counter cultural icon.
Salvador Allende was the socialist president of Chile during the 1970s. Due to his socialists policies such as the nationalisation of Chile's copper industry and his friendship with Fidel Castro, the Nixon Administration saw him as a Cold War threat. In 1973 the Chilean military with the assistance of the CIA organised a coup that led to his overthrow and death, ending Chilean democracy for a long period under Augusto Pinochet.
Oscar Romero was a famous priest and Archbishop of El Salvador who became a Church leader at a time of turmoil. Initially fairly conservative, he became an outspoken voice for social justice through his sermons and radio addresses, denouncing the abuses of both the El Salvadorean government as well as right wing militias and death squads. This led him to embrace a movement known as Liberation theology, a revolutionary brand of Catholicism which many of his fellow priests like Rutilio Grande influenced him to adopt. As a result the El Salvadorean government began to crack down on the Churches, suspecting them of communist influence and in 1980 he was assassinated. He later became venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church.
How do you think all 3 of these deaths shaped the history of Latin America and how comparable are they both in terms of similarities and differences?

It's official. @gabrielboric - the left-wing candidate to be next President of Chile - has defeated the far right pro-Pinochet supporter. 48 years since Salvador Allende was overthrown - and modern neoliberalism began - this is a monumental victory for Chileans - and all of us.
https://twitter.com/owenjones84/status/1472694883777490956?s=21 What more is there to be said, it's great to see other left wing parties take power as only by left wing parties taking power worldwide can we begin to shift the neoliberal consensus

Not only did the Soviet Union interfere in the 1970 Chilean Presidential election, Salvador Allende personally requested money through his KGB contact. Allende won by a narrow margin of 39,000 votes of a total of the 3 million cast.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1970_Chilean_presidential_election#Campaign
> Allende made a personal request for Soviet money through his personal contact, KGB officer Svyatoslav Kuznetsov, who urgently came to Chile from Mexico City to help Allende. The original allocation of money for these elections through the KGB was $400,000, and an additional personal subsidy of $50,000 directly to Allende.
>> It is believed that help from KGB was a decisive factor, because Allende won by a narrow margin of 39,000 votes of a total of the 3 million cast. After the elections, the KGB director Yuri Andropov obtained permission for additional money and other resources from the Central Committee of the CPSU to ensure Allende victory in Congress. In his request on 24 October, he stated that KGB "will carry out measures designed to promote the consolidation of Allende's victory and his election to the post of President of the country".
