I present my magic system: Aura Magic.

Long post, but bear with me. I promise you won't regret it. English isn't my native language, so forgive me for any grammar erros for the longer sentences.

What is Aura Magic?

Aura Magic, more popularly known as Arcana or Arcane Magic, is one of the three forms of High Magic, being the one where the user uses the mana of their own soul to perform magical phenomena that, in this case, are know as spells.

Who can use Aura Magic?

Arcane Magic is a hereditary gift unique to humans, passed from generation to generation for countless centuries. All individuals capable of wielding arcana are known by the generic term arcanist (or arzari, in the Elandrian language), with those who choose to specialize in their domain through formal study and training being called wizards (or serbazi, in the Elandrian language) and those who prefer to just live with their innate abilities being called sorcerers (or sorginis, in the Elandrian language).

What are the forms of Arcane Magic?

1 β€” Red Aura: Located in the groin is the aura of body spells. Includes healing, sense-altering, body-modifying, and metabolism-changing spells.

2 β€” Orange Aura: Located at the base of the spine is the aura of elemental spells. It includes the ability to manipulate air, fire, water, earth and derived elements.

3 β€” Yellow Aura: located in the stomach is the aura of transmutation spells. It includes matter transfiguration, object animation, and property change.

4 β€” Blue Aura: located in the lung is the aura of abjuration spells. Includes creating barriers, breaking curses, dispelling spells, and sealing.

5 β€” Green Aura: located in the throat is the aura of enchantment spells. It includes creating and manipulating emotions, altering feelings, and hypnosis.

6 β€” Indigo Aura: located between the eyes is the aura of illusory spells. It includes the ability to create illusions and sensory effects that are visual, sound, odor, etc.

7 β€” Purple Aura: located on the forehead is the aura of psychic spells. It includes dream manipulation, astral travel, telepathic communication and precognition.

How common is Aura Magic?

The frequency of arcanists in a given population varies greatly depending on region, time period, and numerous other factors, although in general Westria has a school of 1 arcanist for every 3,000 non-arcanists (or azimuz in the Elandrian language).

Relationship with society?

Due to their innate power, longevity and tendency to come from very ancient

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

The new Royals

I absolutely love that the Golden Trio are now the Royals, they're my favourite trio in the series.

But how will they perform in Turf Wars? Because there's no doubt that they're a downgrade as far as power goes. So let's go over the history of Turf Wars squads.

It's implied that Cecile was Jack when Seraphina was Queen, so that would make the roster Seraphina, Arlo, and Cecile. A cumulative level of 19.5

When Sera left the hierarchy, that was around the same time Remi dethroned Cecile. Blyke was chosen as Jack. The squad we knew was Arlo, Remi and Blyke. A cumulative level of 16.2

Now we go all the way to John's coronation. John, Remi and Cecile became the Royals. A cumulative level of 18.1

And now we have the current set. Remi, Blyke and Isen, this time Blyke being a high tier though. A cumulative level of 14.8

So the current squad is the weakest, containing Wellston's rank 4,6 and 7. But is it strong enough?

Yes. Yes it is.

Agwin is Wellston's biggest rival, being the second strongest school in the region. Can this squad beat Agwin?

Well we know that Gou is a 4.0 and Rein is a 4.9. We don't know Brovin's level but he's presumably weaker than Rein, since he thought Rein might beat Arlo despite already seeing Arlo in action and failing to defeat him. So let's assume he's a 4.8. Best case scenario for Agwin. You can already see where this is going

Agwin has a cumulative level of 13.7. Lower than the 14.8 of the Golden Trio.

Isen would lose to Rein and Brovin but beat Gou. Blyke and Remi both beat all Agwin's Royals. None of them can 1v3 them the same way Arlo could, but it's close enough.

So no worries. Wellston is still firmly rank one of Turf Wars.

How the Web Was Lost

A few months ago I copy/pasted a blog post I wrote about the facile comparison between capeshit and mythology. It was received better than I expected (I didn't run away crying), so I'd like to push my luck a second time.

This is a thing I wrote last year about the end of the decentralized Wild West internet and its gradual development into a corporate wasteland, viewed from the perspective of amateur webcomic artists and bloggersβ€”now professionalized and called "content creators." The piece has nothing to do with identity politics, but is still more or less relevant to the sub's interests.

TLDR: variation #4924420283 on the popular theme of "why the internet sucks now"

* * *

By whatever authority I have as an erstwhile webcomic author, I would bracket the period from 2000–2007 as the golden age of the online comic strip. Not that we are or have ever been in danger of running out of well-written and visually captivating pictorial narratives to read in our browser windows, nor have webcomics declined in quality. To the contrary, today's strips display more technical proficiency and polish than the ones I followed in the early aughts. But the medium's glory days are nevertheless behind it.

I won't embarrass myself by trying to polish whatever infinitesimal legacy is left to my contribution, but I'm glad for the chance to have participated in what could fairly (if immodestly) be called a subcultural movement.Β The webcomics scene, with its DIY ethos, camaraderous social networks, and the ingenuous passion of amatuerdom as its Γ©lan vital, was for kids like me what the ska punk scene was to my more gregarious friends.

At the beginning, nobody began cobbling together comic strips and slapping them up on the internet as part of a plan to pay off their student loans. Money and fame weren't the goal. Many of the early scene's biggest namesβ€”including ones who remain active to this day and have blueticked Twitter accountsβ€”started out making and sharing their comic strips purely for amusement. For the first year or so of its run, Zach Weiner's Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal was a series of scanned pencil drawings he produced in class in lieu of taking notes. The first pages of Brian Clevinger's 8-Bit Theater certainly don't read like the work of someone who approached his web presence as though it were an audition for a Marvel Comics gig. David Rees assembled the first Get Your War On strips as a means of sorting through and screaming

On the Gender Empathy Gap and its correlates: a comprehensive collection of resources (Part II)

Women are Wonderful Effect

According to Wikipedia β€” Women-are-wonderful effect: > The women-are-wonderful effect is the phenomenon found in psychological and sociological research which suggests that people associate more positive attributes with women compared to men. This bias reflects an emotional bias toward women as a general case. The phrase was coined by Alice Eagly and Antonio Mladinic in 1994 after finding that both male and female participants tend to assign positive traits to women, with female participants showing a far more pronounced bias. Positive traits were assigned to men by participants of both genders, but to a far lesser degree. > […] > One study found that the effect is mediated by increased gender equality. The mediation comes not from differences in attitudes towards women, but in attitudes towards men. In more egalitarian societies, people have more positive attitudes towards men than in less egalitarian societies. > […] > Some authors have claimed the "Women are wonderful" effect is applicable when women follow traditional gender roles such as child nurturing and stay-at-home housewife. However, other authors have cited studies indicating that the women-are-wonderful effect is still applicable even when women are in nontraditional gender roles, and the original Eagly, Mladinic & Otto (1991) study discovering the women-are-wonderful effect found no such ambivalence.

These aren't dad jokes...

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.

This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.

If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.

Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
