Hello everyone!! Help determine the cost of this windbreaker (or maybe it's a zip-up sweater). The composition tags are cut off, but I think it's leather and knitwear. Of course it's not in perfect condition ... Thank you !! reddit.com/gallery/q46eur

Boon's made of composition leather???

Just got 12oz boons in from Title, and i was a little bit skeptical when I started looking at them. The gloves didn't have that genuine leather smell, which is usually prominent in boon gloves. Also the printed logo on the right glove had small forked sized pieces missing out the bottom, its not really noticeable but irritates me. The glove itself seems like its a defect, the leather looks really rough and worn out, but the color is true. Anyone else have these experience with boons? Helmet Trade

To state the obvious my Dad is a firefighter, he has been a voluntaire firefighter from the day he was allowed to. Last year he converted his hobby into his full time profession. He became the chief of our local firestation. We live in the Netherlands and naturally there is a difference between the American way of fighting fires and the Dutch/European way. We love these difference, moreover we cherish the courage of all firefighters in the world. Therefore I would love to surprise him with a real leather American figherfighter helmet. To celebrate I want to surprise him with an all American helmet.I have in my collection a Dutch firefighter helmet used in the Neterlands (for more details, please DM me). I really love to trade this with one of you for a genuine American Firefighter helmet, preferably a all leather one (that is his biggest wish).

Who is willing to do some kind of trade?

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

D100 Interesting locations in Candlekeep the Library Fortress

I'm trying to build out a more complete list of towers and locations to have a more robust list of locations that my players can visit when they journey to Candlekeep. I have the book Eliminated Candlekeep companion and have pulled a few ideas from that. I will add a few examples from that book as well as a few of my own. Candlekeep can be pretty nuts so go crazy! No idea is too nuts

  1. Fyrentennimar- this tower was built within the hollowed out remains of an ancient red dragon named Fyrentennimar. Powerful magic protects the dragons body from decay. Along the ceiling are 5 taxidermied heads of chromatic dragons. One for each color. An elderly dragon born named Thava Norixius occupies this tower and is probably the foremost expert on dragons in Faerun.

  2. Arriene's Beastiary Spire- this spire is one of the taller structures in Candlekeep as it houses numerous beasts from around Faerun in order to study them. Arriene Goldcone is a female elf and was once a ranger. She has since retired and decided to dedicate her post adventuring life to studying the various beasts of Faerun

  3. A long hallway decorated with various artistic floating glowglobes. This glowglobes are each uniquely decorated and float around anyone that enters into the hall. No other light illuminates the hall.

  4. A talking brass door that refuses to open unless the party present it with some juicy gossip. The door doesn't care whether it is false or not.

  5. The Floating Step- this is a secret tunnel shaft that travels up the backside of the mountain that Candlekeep was built on. A single large slab of rock with a levitation spell built into it will travel up and down the shaft as a keeper wills. It can be used in case of emergency to escape Candlekeep and will allow for large quantities of books and scrolls to be taken down or up with it. The shaft has powerful glyphs written into its side walls that can be set off to destroy the tunnel in a last ditch effort to escape.

  6. The Port of Air- this is a place for flying vessels to dock their boats, ships and even animals. It has a stable suitable for all manner of flying creatures. This port also houses a few defensive ships that Candlekeep can call upon in case of aerial attack.

  7. The Architects Playground- this is a dome structured building houses an course on architectural studies. Within the dome, students can use magic to quickly build miniature models of buildings and then test them against real world physics. This building almost c

A Death-Robot?! In My Fantasy World?!

I’ve been playing with a fun story idea for some time now: a sort of β€œsci-fi disrupts fantasy,” and I’ve finally managed to put it in writing! I guess you could call it an Isekai (protagonist flung into fantasy world, and is probably overpowered there), but it’s not a generic one. I’m quite proud of how this first chapter turned out! Except the middle part – Feckin’ hell, that middle part with all the disgusting worldbuilding, amirite? The only thing more heinous is that I’m still going to have to do more! UGH

Anyway, please leave some feedback. In particular, I’d appreciate some advice on my paragraph and sentence structure, as I haven’t written in a long time and I feel I’ve forgotten something.

Also, if anybody knows, I’d really appreciate some advice on my switching between past and present tense, as I kept second-guessing myself the whole way through.

Thanks! Hope this story’s fun for ya at least!

((Friendly disclaimer of content for those interested: There will be no sexual content, but there may be some flirtiness in places, or even a tinge of romance. I’m not much for it, though.))

An ear shattering blast. A bright white flash, followed by total immersion in a blue, swirling vortex. The human didn’t know how they could tell it was blue, their eyes had surely just been blinded by the earlier flash; it was as though they felt the blue vortex around them. Abruptly, just as their mind had begun to come to terms with their surroundings, the vortex faded to a cloudy, blurry mix of white and blue. And then a scream, a woman’s.

Their eyes slowly opened, but their vision was stubbornly unresponsive, as a mesh of colors blurrily overlapped each other, refusing to tell the brain anything useful.

β€œOw… ow… ow…”

They recited habitually, something deep in their psyche insisting that the word be spoken at the presence of pain, even if doing so did nothing to alleviate it. Also, that voice… Isn’t that voice just like the woman’s scream from earlier? … Oh.

[Sneaker Collecting] CrumbleGate or: The rarest sneakers on Earth are falling to pieces (and is there anything we can do about it)

β€œA ship in harbor is safe - but that is not what ships are built for.” - John A. Shedd.

Today’s Hobby History speaks to an ongoing crisis in sneaker collecting, one whose seeds were sown years ago with nary a soul realizing. The culprit is not an individual, a group of individuals, nor a company (for the most part). The culprit is the shoes themselves.

Join me in a hypothetical real quick:

You’re back in your hometown. Maybe it’s the holiday season, maybe a cousin is getting married, and you’re staying at your parent’s house. It wasn’t always your parents house, though; it was once your house. And one day, you pull down the ladder to the attic, sifting through years of childhood detritus from what feels like eons ago. Every hobby you ever had, every passing interest, locked up and stashed away like the Ark of the Covenant. At first, you’re having fun. You find your old Lego sets. That skateboard you twisted your ankle on in middle school. Binders upon binders of basketball cards. Holy shit, is that your Game Boy? Sure, you remember it being bigger in your hands, and the batteries have since eaten the internals alive, but it’s here! What else could still be here?

Tucked away in the corner behind a hamper of clothes that haven’t fit in years, you find a box. No way. Your old Air Jordans? This takes you back. Old commercials flash before your eyes, kids at the playground swearing on their heart of hearts they make you jump higher. You never cared about sneakers a day in your life before or since, but those Air Jordans you got for that one birthday are something different. You laugh, remembering the strides you took to never crease the toebox, dodging puddles, the compliments you got in the hallways at school from people that never knew you existed. You took good care of those things, you think. It's almost as if you never put them on.

And the shoe has fallen to bits. The old sneakers now resting in this old cardboard box don’t look like the shoes you loved so much as a kid. Half the shoe is rolling around in the corners like fries at the bottom of a Wendy’s bag. And the soles used to be bone white, not this putrid, pus yellow. What happened to the laces? What are these gross color patches on the swoosh? Were they eaten by ants? What happened to these things?

And in that moment, you realize you aren’t a kid anymore. The kid who owned all this junk back in the nebulous Day doesn’t exist anymore. Your Mom calls fro

One-bagging without buying stuff: the packing list from my first trip in 2008

I started one-bagging over ten years ago. I didn't know that was a word. I just wanted to pack for a weekend in my regular backpack so I didn't have to buy one of those little rolling suitcases.

Discovering this subreddit has been amazing. I'm so happy to meet a group of like-minded people and read years of archived discussion on how you all do things.

One thing I've noticed is that many people on this subreddit seem to be on a much bigger budget than I was then or am now. If I didn't already have a few trips under my belt, I might get the impression that you needed all the fancy gear.

This post is my little nudge in the opposite direction. It is, as best as I can reconstruct, my packing list for my first one bag trip, a fall weekend in the Midwest in 2008 or so. It features only items I already owned, none of them travel-specific.

Worn

  • Cotton T-shirt
  • Poly/cotton button-up shirt
  • Cotton underwear
  • Wool blend slacks
  • Leather belt
  • Wool blend over-the-calf dress socks
  • Rockport oxfords
  • Secondhand merino V-neck sweater
  • Secondhand canvas trench coat

I had kind of a business casual dress code back then.

Packed

  • Kensington laptop backpack That thing was like five pounds empty.
    • Two changes of clothes, in one big roll

      • 2x cotton underwear
      • 2x cotton T-shirts
      • 2x poly/cotton button-up shirts
      • 2x wool blend over-the-calf dress socks
      • Polyester long underwear Pajamas, mostly
    • Toiletries, in a ziploc bag

      • Toothbrush My regular manual one from home, not even cut in half or anything.
      • Travel-size toothpaste Free from the dentist, I think?
      • Floss The entire 500m spool, I think.
      • Flat comb I had hair back then.

I bet on the hotel providing soap, shampoo, and a towel. Also, looking back, I bet on the hotel bleaching its shower between bookings, which may not have been wise for that hotel.

    • Electronics

      • Motorola Razer Remember how phones used to go a week between charges? That was great.
      • Thinkpad X22 and power brick Remember how laptops used to go two hours between charges? That was not great.
    • Misc

      • Pocket-size composition notebook The sewn binding is crucial!
      • Pilot Precise V5 pen
      • Paperback book How else did anyone carry reading material back then?
      • $5 drugstore umbrella

[Spoilers C3E5] A mechanical look at the characters so far.

Hi everyone, just thought I'd give my thoughts on how the characters have been built so far, and what we might expect going forward. This is all just my opinion, and there are loads of different ways to build characters, so any suggestions are just what I would do in the situation.

Ashton: Ashton's playing into the classic Barbarian, and doing a very good job. They have tons of HP, a good AC for level 3, and do good damage. Honestly, Barbarian is one of the simpler classes to build, so there's not too much to say about how Taliesin has been playing them so far. Going into level 4, I'd expect Taliesin to go +1Str +1Con, this would give them +1 to all attack and damage, +1 to AC, +4 HP and +1 to their ability save DC.

Speaking of their subclass, there's been some concern that it's OP, and I'd like to give my thoughts. The chaos burst is 2d4 damage twice per day, according to Matt, and I think this is a reasonable ability, a fair bit worse than the Zealot's main level 3 ability.

The other ability though I am a little concerned about. Ashton rolls a d4 when they rage, and gets a random effect based on the roll. We've only seen 2 so far, but they are very strong. The first one, Temporal Morass, requires a Con save from all enemies within 15 feet, and on a fail their speed is halved and they lose their reaction. This is very similar to slow, a strong level 3 spell, though worse. The other ability does not provide a save, and gives all enemies within 15 feet disadvantage on attacks against anyone other than Ashton. The Ancestral Guardian Barbarian is one of the stronger Barbarian subclasses, and their entire level 3 ability does this to one enemy per turn, on a hit. This is very clearly a lot better than that ability. Orym can do a similar thing, but again it's to one enemy, and provides a save. I think if the other 2 abilities are of a similar strength to these 2, then I would definitely think the subclass needs a bit of tuning. It is too early to say, though, so I'll reserve judgement until we know what the other 2 abilities do.

Dorian: Robbie's playing a College of Swords Bard, a weaker subclass for one of the best classes in the game. So far, Dorian hasn't stolen the show, but I've liked his spell choices and he seems to be building more of a melee focused bard, which can be very fun. I expect he'll come into his own as he progresses. In terms of spells I'd like to see him take, Blindness/Deafness, Phantasmal Force, and Suggestion are very strong level

  • Level of Amberness: 6/10
  • Other key notes: Olibanum, Pink Pepper, Cedar, Vanilla
  • Thoughts: Lovely incense, but not dry or smokey. Pink pepper adds brightness and lift at the top, cedar adds woodiness, vanilla adds creaminess and a mild sweetness.

Chanel - Coco Eau de Parfum

  • Level of Amberness: 5/10
  • Other key notes: Rose, Coriander, Cloves, Opoponax
  • Thoughts: Rose spiced up with cloves and coriander on a base of amber. Heavy on the rose and cloves, hence the middling amber rating, but an excellent scent for fall and winter nonetheless. I'd argue this is unisex like No 19 and Cristalle.

Chanel - Coromandel

  • Level of Amberness: 7/10
  • Other key notes: Patchouli, Benzoin, Citrus, Olibanum
  • Thoughts: Opens with citrus, but is quickly overtaken by sweet patchouli. The benzoin, amber, and olibanum create an accord of creamy white chocolate, which is a welcomed change since patchouli usually leans towards dark chocolate. One of my favorites from the Les Exclusifs, and shares similarities with Le Lion.

Chanel - Le Lion

  • Level of Amberness: 7/10
  • Other key notes: Labdanum, Patchouli, Bergamot, Lemon
  • Thoughts: Opens with bergamot and lemon, but are quickly overtaken by labdanum and amber. Similar to Coromandel since they both share citrus and patchouli, but Le Lion is a drier scent, not creamy, and definitely less sweet. The star of the show is labdanum, smoky, leathery, almost animalic, but well harmonized with amber to create a warm and sensual scent. Gets mentioned in the same breath as Shalimar, and I definitely get the comparison, but I love Le Lion and disklike Shalimar. Go figure.

Dior - Ambre Nuit

  • Level of Amberness: 8.5/10
  • Other key notes: Rose, Pink Pepper
  • Thoughts: A marriage of rose and amber. There's a spicy edge to it, which makes me think it's labdanum or something adjacent. Airy and ethereal, but still lasting and persistent.

Dior - Mitzah

  • Level of Amberness: 7/10
  • Other key notes: Coriander, Cinnamon, Hone
