A list of puns related to "Cold Compresses"
I get a lot of headaches and Iβve read different things recommending a cold OR hot compress for headache relief. I donβt get why a change of temperature in either direction would be good rather than one specifically.
Hi! I have a large, painful, red spot on my cheek that will not go away. I have been using an ice pack on it the past couple nights and I'm not seeing that much of a difference. Should I switch to a warm compress or just use neither? Thank you in advance!
Which one is more ideal? Or both?
For background, my father received major spinal surgery in November 2016. He started 2.5 months of physical therapy in January 2017, 3 visits per week.
A couple of months ago, we received a bill from the medical provider for an amount that insurance would not cover. We asked the insurance provider to provide an itemized bill, and discovered that the "service" that they were not covering was literally hot/cold compress application that my father got for ~10min every time he went to PT. Each hot/cold compress application was ~$300, and while we currently only have a bill for January 2017, we're looking at a total out-of-pocket expense for those 2.5 months of ~$9,000...for wet towels...
I've been working with the medical provider over the past couple of weeks to essentially argue that if these charges had ever been made known to my father ahead of time, we would have never agreed to getting the hot/cold compresses, so we shouldn't be expected to pay this exorbitant charge. Also, I'm arguing from a common sense standpoint that, on the face of it, $300 per application of wet towel is absurd (but I'm sure many of you know how far common sense gets you in the healthcare industry nowadays).
The medical provider has been outwardly very nice to me (sympathizing/empathizing with my situation), and every time I call, they say that management is working on it, and that I should expect a positive outcome, but we're going on two weeks of them "working on it" and I haven't really seen any movement.
I'm getting a little anxious about how this is going to turn out, and I'm starting to contemplate contacting the press and/or otherwise putting the medical provider on blast with social media.
Any advice on how to proceed on this? Anyone go through something similar? How did it turn out?
I have scoliosis really bad, and it's throbbing in my lower back today, and I need to get some papers done. Looking for relief.
They sell a 24 pack on amazon for like $15, I'm just wondering if anyone has brought one or two in before or if this falls under the prohibited items list for "No Ice Packs"
If you need to use a hot or cold compress use a nappy (diaper) with hot water or cold and then fridge for a bit. They retain the temperature longer than anything else I tried. Just place under tap and fill nappy much in the same a baby would wee into it!
(Hot is good for blocked ducts, cold good for sore nipples and engorgement)
I have a few used cold compresses that I have from coaching a youth soccer team. (We got to the end of the season without using them and my son wanted to feel the reaction.)
As the ingredients are just ammonium nitrated and water I was wondering if I could repurpose the solution as a high nitrogen fertilizer?
Has anyone done this?
There truly is a subreddit for everything. I'm glad there are others who are finally putting a name to this thing. I've had dyshidrosis on and off for years, relatively mild outbreaks compared with others here, one or two groups of about 3-5 small blisters at a time, maybe once or twice a year, and itchy as hell. Took me forever to identify it properly myself online a few years ago (mostly just from pictures and descriptions and lots of searches), with little or no help from doctors over the years. Anyway, here's one of my own observations and a treatment hack which I haven't seen discussed/mentioned elsewhere on this sub.
I've noticed that flare-ups seem to correspond with outbreaks of athlete's foot, and I've read that there is recent research (from Sweden, iirc) correlating dyshidrosis with fungal infections. Treating the athlete's foot seems to speed up recovery and hinder re-outbreak or spread of the dihydrosis patches.
For a quick fix for itchiness and/or burning, cold compresses work pretty well for me. I usually use some ice cubes wrapped in a paper towel or napkin. (If you're trying to avoid water, a freezer pack or something similarly cold like a bag of frozen veggies or something else from the freezer would also work. I'd wrap the compress in something sanitary like gauze if you are concerned about contact allergens or infection.) Hold the compress on the affected area for 5-10 minutes. For me this helps to significantly reduce itchiness for an extended period of time afterwards. Hope this can help someone else out there!
Should I be using a warm compress for my blind pimples? Or would a cold compress be better?
I suffer with cystic acne with my main problem being large painful nodules that become inflamed under the skin.
I've always though that cold compress or icing is the way to bring the inflammation down. Iβve just read and seen people suggesting a hot compress to bring the swelling down.
Is anyone able to explain this to me and how it works as I've always thought that it's the cold that reduces swelling.
Is a hot compress more effective?
