A list of puns related to "Chloramphenicol"
I have to give my dog Chloramphenicol and i wanted to get some more information about what the real risk is to humans. My vet told me to be careful cleaning up accidents and throwup with gloves. With 2 young kids, can anyone add some color here? Is this a scenario where if my dog licks their face, they need to be taken to the ER? Is the danger from something like touching vomit and then my mouth? Is it an instant thing or more of an overly-cautious worry to not let this build up in your system?
Hello smart and kind people!
AMBOSS says that chloramphenicol (clink the link to view the AMBOSS article on chloramphenicol) causes "Dose-dependent bone marrow suppression: aplastic anemia**"**
While First aid 2020 page 192 says that the side effects of chloramphenicol are:
"Anemia (dose dependent), aplastic anemia (dose independent)"
Which source should I go with? AMBOSS or First aid?
Thanks!
My dog has been on chloramphenicol for several months. Heβs having surgery on Monday. He gets the antibiotic 3 times a day, every 8 hours. Weβve realized that he only has one dose left for today. So he wonβt get his last dose tonight or any tomorrow before his surgery on Monday. We love quite a distance from the emergency vet so donβt have the ability to get a refill ASAP. Will my dog be ok to not have it for his last several doses before surgery? How quickly is infection likely to spread without it?? Help please!
One of my pigs was just described chloramphenicol 3x a day for 30 days for an infected grease gland. Weβve only ever been prescribed Baytril, so this is new to me. Reading online, Iβm a little nervous since it sounds pretty harsh and you have to wear gloves. Anyone had success with it before?

Hello,
I was prescribed chloramphenicol 100mg tablets (in Japan) to take for 6 days, however, after searching for the drug online, Iβve found only very alarming results, stating that common side effects include aplastic anemia, bone marrow suppression and can cause leukaemia, even after short-term use. It also seems to be banned in a lot of countries.
Is it safe to use?
Thanks!

One of our guinea pigs apparently has conjunctivitis, I don't know if that's right or not because he's had a watery eye for a month and it only just started becoming a bit red and irritating for him. We started the treatment yesterday and later on his eye has started developing green gunk.
His eye is also watering more, is more red and it seems to be irritating him more. Should we stop the treatment?

Hello,
TL;DR: After fighting my acne for more than 10 years my Dermatologist and I have found the ultimate cure (at least for me) which fully cleared my skin within 5-10 days. It consists of two parts:
a cream/lotion containing: Erythromycin (0,5g), Polysorbat-20-Loesung (0,5g), Linola Crème (ad 50,0g)
and a liquid solution containing: Chloramphenicol (0,5g), Acid. Salicyl. (1,0g) and Isopropyl (ad 100,0g)
Both are made to order at a pharmacy.
If youβre undergoing medical treatment for your acne and consider taking Isotretinoin I highly suggest trying this combination before.
Quick backstory: I had βnormalβ acne as a teenager but it continued to persist throughout my twentyβs. The acne transformed from small spots to almost abscess like breakouts focused around my chin area (I could feel them days before they were visibly). Thanks to my insurance I was able to get bi-monthly facial treatments which helped a lot (especially something called microdermabrasion). However, this only fought the βresultβ, not the cause.
I took two rounds of Isotretinoin, each for ~6 month. It worked well, and my skin was clear for about 4-6 month without it. However, after about 6-8 month the acne would return (even though very slowly). The side effects were very strong as well.
While discussing a third round of Isotretinoin, my Dermatologist suggested the two things above. My skin cleared up completely after using them for like 5-10 days. I honestly couldnβt believe it. I'm still using it after 3 month but very sparingly and the positive effect persists.
Since everyone has a different skin type this might not yield the same results for you, but I wanted to share it anyway.
Edit: Formatting; Added products and skincare routine
Products:
Ducray KERACNYL Foaming gel (the Myrtacine kills acne bacteria apparently)
Ducray KERACNYL REPAIR cream (started using it during Isotretinoin intake)
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion (highly recommended)
Noreva Zeniac LP Forte (for oily regions; very strong)
Noreva EXFOLIAC Matifying suncare fluid SPF 50+ (good sun protection but youβll look very pale for a bit after applying it)
Noreva Aquareva Express-Mask (mvp)
Eucerin Dermopure Mattifying Fluid (not sure about the quality of the product but I really like it; makes the skin look real nice and smooth)
Stridex red

Front: When should Chloramphenicol be used for the treatment of Rickettsial infections?
{{c1::Pregnancy}}
Extra: instead of 1st-line doxycycline (tetracyclines contraindicated in pregnancy)
I'm confused because I thought Chloramphenicol was also contraindicated in pregnancy because it causes Grey Baby Syndrome. So when do you actually use Chloramphenicol to treat RMSF?

My 10yr Boxer had an emergency GDV surgery on 12/22. About 5 days after surgery, he developed an infection in the incision, and was prescribed Cephalexin while they awaited results of the culture. I received a call from the surgery department yesterday and was told the culture came back positive for two bacteria, one treatable with the cephalexin, and one that is extremely resistant will require two weeks of Chloramphenicol.
After reading about Chloramphenicol, the entry on wikipedia states that it is antagonistic with most cephalosporins and using both together should be avoided - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chloramphenicol#Drug_antagonistic
He has already had some issues with the Cephalexin, such as vomiting, diarrhea, and lack of appetite. Should I be concerned about administering both of these antibiotics at the same time?
Title.
Will the chloramphenicol degrade or something if not kept in the fridge? I know the eye ointment form doesn't need to be in the fridge so I'm a little confused.
Does anybody have any experience with this? Itβs a fairly cheap additive. Is there any significant benefit to be had?
