A list of puns related to "Bronx River"
Rode down from White Plains to Bronxville yesterday. Pretty messy (rocks, mud, etc from Ida) down to Scarsdale, where there's a tree down that forced me to detour onto Garth Rd and pick it back up at Harney Rd. After that it was pretty much fine (save for a bridge out--and I mean completely washed away--at the south end of the Bronxville Lake, so take the northwestern path around that)
I just found out that the Bronx River Parkway Bike Sundays will run almost every Sunday from May to October this year:

For those of you that don't know what this is: they shutdown a 6.5 mile stretch of parkway in Westchester county (north of the city) to cars for a few hours and let cyclists, walkers, runners, an inline skaters do their thing. If you've never done this, I recommend trying it at least once. It's fairly easy to get to from the SCT: head east on Palmer to the Bronx River Bike Path then ride north to Scarsdale Rd. Or, you can take the train: Metro North from GCT up to the Scarsdale station.
Does anyone know when this part of the path will be open? Theyβve been working on it for a while now and it looks like itβs very close to completion.
I currently rent in Yonkers around Mclean ave near bronx river road. I am looking to buy a condo/apartment somwhere else in Westchester but with very similar vibes of mclean ave. A downtown area with restaurants, bars, and shops (a small market or grocery store is a plus) that are easily walkable.
I glanced at the New Rochelle area if anyone has thoughts there? What the downtown is like, the atmosphere?
Hi everyone! I've been a long time lurker on this sub but this is my first write up so I apologize if I it is a bit rough. Because this is a case that hasn't received hardly any media attention in over 20 years, very few of the news articles are available freely online so I've opted to include as much relevant information in the post itself (when possible I've linked to the article in the post but all sources are listed at the bottom).

Laura McKissick, known as Laurie or βChocolate,β was a 17-year-old black girl who was raped and strangled in between two busy roads in the middle of rush hour. She was raised in a middle class neighborhood in Queens by her mother who also grew up in the same neighborhood. McKissickβs home life was tumultuous. Her father and mother were never married (they broke up while Gabriel was pregnant) and McKissick was shuffled back and forth between both homes. McKissick battled leukemia and it went into remission when she was 11. That summer she was excited to attend a summer camp sponsored by the Make-a-Wish Foundation to celebrate her newfound health. The night before she left for camp, however, her father raped her.
Tommy Duane McKissick was convicted of sexually molesting his daughter and sentenced to 5 Β½ years in prison. NYPD Detective John Geiss said the rape βkilled her emotionallyβ and sent her into a tailspin. She became βvery promiscuousβ according to her mother and was never home. It wasnβt until McKissick started to struggle in school and her grades began to drop, however, that she confided in her mom about the rape.
Following her fatherβs arrest McKissick continued to behave erratically. Authorities in New York determined that she could no longer remain in the care of her mother and was placed into the Bronxβs childrenβs home. At the time, most children entering the foster system after being removed from dangerous situations were placed with nonprofit private agencies such as Sheltering Arms, the home McKissick was placed in. Immediately after she arrived at the foster home McKissick ran awayββshe spent the next two years living on the streets while maintaining contact with Gabriel.
Laurie McKissick's disappearance
McKissick was last seen by her mother five days before her body was discovered. The pair met at 183rd and Grand Concourse in the Bronx so that Gabriel could give her daughter the money she request
