A list of puns related to "Backup Collision"
I'm finding it nearly impossible to search for information about running vSphere Replication and snapshot based backups simultaneously. Can anyone confirm for me if or if not a backup job using snapshots (such as a Veeam backup job) will interfere/collide with vSphere Replication syncing?
I have just configured a very large VM to use both of the above and it appears VSphere Replication does not attempt to sync while a Veeam backup job is running. Specifically when Veeam is running a snapshot deletion.
I'm sure vSphere Replication is making invisible snapshots on the source to enable syncing and am guessing that while snapshot deletion or consolidation processes are going out can't make snapshots in order to sync. I would just like anyone's assistance to confirm they've noticed this behavior and, if possible, found the VMware documentation pointing this out.
Thanks for your help.

I was recently stuck in stopandgo freeway backup traffic early on a Sunday afternoon. At the front of it, there was a car on the side of the road, but nothing else to explain the congestion. Almost an hour later, traveling back in the other direction, I saw the freeway congestion was still there. It made me wonder. Normally, if a collision on a freeway causes a backup and then the colliding cars are removed, roughly how long does it take for the congestion to dissipate?

~/.vim/swap
and ~/.vim/undo
are using unique file names like:
%tmp%test.swp
But ~/.vim/backup
only uses the file name without the path:
test~
Editing another file named test
will overwrite the previous backup file named test~
which, of course, is the backup of another file.
How can I make Vim add paths to the file names of backup files in order to avoid naming collisions?
I have these lines in my .vimrc:
set directory=~/.vim/swap//,/var/tmp//,/tmp//,.
set backupdir=~/.vim/backup//,/var/tmp//,/tmp//,.
set undodir=~/.vim/undo//,/var/tmp//,/tmp//,.
The double slashes cause the swap and undo file names to be in this format:
%home%username%.vimrc.swp
Great because no name collisions can occur! But it does not work for file names in the backup directory:
.vimrc~
Editing multiple files named ".vimrc" will cause a name collision and only the backup of the latest will be retained.
Anyone enlightened enough to explain this to me?
Another snapshot is now available. We've added new world generation below existing chunks, and blocks and fluids are now also part of the simulation distance setting. We also fixed a few bugs. Enjoy!
Keep in mind that we're still working on the world upgrades, so making a backup before upgrading is still a good idea.

Hello Park Managers!
Thank you for joining us on our journey through time to look for dinosaur and reptile fossils! We've returned to the modern era and we are just in time - the Early Cretaceous Pack and Update 1 are now available! Update your game to ensure you get access to everything.
The Early Cretaceous Pack introduces two new land dinosaurs, one new flying reptile, and one new marine reptile to Jurassic World Evolution 2, all hailing from the Early Cretaceous Period. Research and locate the dig sites for the mighty Wuerhosaurus, the miniscule Minmi, the soaring Dsungaripterus, and the powerful Kronosaurus. They are sure to bring even more guests to your parks!
Wuerhosaurus
Wuerhosaurus is a herbivorous stegosaurid originally discovered in Xinjiang in China in 1973. Like other stegosaurids, they prefer to eat Ground Fibre and Fruit in their enclosures, and can get along well with other herbivores, mainly hadrosaurids, pachycephalosaurids, and sauropods. If a fight breaks out they will use their powerful tail spikes to try to injure their opponents.
Minmi
The Minmi is a small ankylosaurid discovered in Australia in 1964. While they lack the thick tail club of their Ankylosaurus cousins, their bodies are still armoured, offering some protection from predators. We wouldn't recommend placing them in an enclosure with a carnivore though. Make sure they have Ground Fruits and Nuts, as well as a bit of water, and they should be happy and healthy.
Dsungaripterus
Dsungaripterus also lived in China, and was discovered in the Junggar Basin in 1964. It had an average wingspan of around 3 meters, and a rather robust skeleton. If you decide to house them in an Aviary, they will need plenty of fish, as well as some rock and sand in their environment, making them a good companion for the Dimorphodon
Kronosaurus
This marine reptile is named after the leader of the Greek Titans, and was first discovered in Queensland, Australia. The Kronosaurus is a predator, preferring mainly to live with its own kind. Keep them away from the smaller marine reptiles, or they just might make them into their dinner!
All of these new dinosaurs and reptiles can be customised by modifying their skin colour and pattern colour to give them a unique look. All will be available in your game immediately after you've p

#Double Asteroid Redirect Test NASA's Double Asteroid Redirect Test (DART) will demonstrate the use of a kinetic impactor to alter an asteroid's trajectory, an intervention that could be used in the future to prevent devastating Earth impacts. The target system consists of Didymos, 780 meters in diameter, and its moonlet Dimorphos, 160 meters. The DART spacecraft will intercept the double asteroid, using autonomous guidance to crash into the smaller one. Moving at about 6 km/s, the transferred momentum should alter Dimorphos's 12 hour orbital period around its companion by several minutes.
The mission tests several technologies, including the Small-body Maneuvering Autonomous Real-Time Navigation (SMART Nav) used to differentiate and steer toward the target body and Roll-Out Solar Arrays (ROSA) with Transformational Solar Array concentrators. NASAโs Evolutionary Xenon Thruster โ Commercial (NEXTโC) ion engine will also be demonstrated, although the spacecraft's primary propulsion is hydrazine thrusters.
DART should arrive at Didymos in late September 2022, when it is about 11 million kilometers from Earth. Ten days before impact, the Italian Space Agency's cubesat LICIACube will be deployed to observe the collision and ejecta with its two cameras. Earth-based telescopes will be used to measure the altered orbit.

The second Caves & Cliffs: Part II snapshot is here! This snapshot mostly contains tweaks and bug fixes, but there are also some new technical additions such as a separate simulation distance slider and an increased thread count (no I'm not talking about the fancy sheets you're thinking about buying).
Oh, and you also seemed to enjoy Strongholds quite a lot, so we decided to add them back into the game. Enjoy!

How does this work? Throughout the course of the week rankers are able to access an app that will allow them to rank teams. At the end of the period we calculate the average ranking for every team and collate all of the analysis provided by rankers.
The app then generates a post that is first proofread and then posted to /r/hockey!
Ranking (avg) | Team | Delta | Overall Record | Record This Week | Comments |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 (2.29) | Carolina Hurricanes | - | 15-4-1 | 1-2-1 | Rough week for the 'Canes this week. I dropped them several spotsp. Lost two in the final 5 minutes of games to Washington and Seattle this past week and in OT to San Jose. Two of the three are the result of the power play failing to convert and the PK giving up an untimely goal (though a 5:3 with 4.5 minutes to go with the slash is still weak given the crosschecks that are going uncalled again league-wide). So where do we go from here? I think it's time to break up PP1 and swap Trochek/Turbo with Necas/Jarvis. I think the blender missing from the power play while going on with all the other combos might need to change. |

Hey Sysadmins,
Happy New Year and hope you're all doing well.
I'm posting for a bit of a sanity check on a deployment - I'm generally pretty quiet around here and do more lurking than posting but was hoping you'd help me out with some thoughts on my situation.
I'm taking over a small business (approximately 12 workstations/users) in the collision repair space and as much as I'm all about M365/InTune I'm thinking about deploying the following - tell my I'm not totally crazy?!
Business needs are general MS Office productivity software, web browsing, one SQL based LOB application, QuickBooks Desktop (no desire to move to cloud) and storage of a fairly large number of not that high resolution photos and PDFs for documentation purposes. They're generating about 50GB or 70k files/month and should continue at about the same rate. Retention needs are approximately 10 years so the total dataset should hover around 6-7 TB. I'm concerned that OneDrive/Dropbox/Google Drive/Box would struggle with this number of small files (~8.5 million). In my testing, I've also noticed that all applications except OneDrive don't show thumbnails for "online only" files which is an issue for usability so using SharePoint sites would be the only viable option.
The big decision-maker - the physical location has sub-par options for internet connectivity and the best thing available outside of a considerable outlay for trenching in fiber is 25/5 DSL.
There's little to no work from home due to the physical nature of the work so everyone has a desk at the physical office. With all of this considered I'm thinking of deploying the following:
It feels really counterintuitive in 2022 to deploy something like this but it still seems like the best choice to me given the business needs and connectivity situation. If the connection was bette

This is a postmortem for my first game, Squirrels Need Acorns. I will go over the things I feel like I did right, things I feel like could be improved, and mistakes that I made. I'll focus mainly on the design challenges, but touch on a few of the technical challenges that I believe could be helpful to newer game developers.
Squirrels Need Acorns is a mobile game where the player flies a squirrel through a level to collect acorns and reach the end as fast as possible.
Squirrels Need Acorns began it's life part of the Beginners Circle Jam #3 game jam using the GameMaker Studio 2 engine in October 2020. For those that aren't aware, a game jam is an event where people create a game in a certain amount of time under a specific theme. In this case, the game jam went for 2 weeks under the theme "A different planet". I was able to finish the game with a very simple menu screen, a single level, as well as a high score system.
This game jam version only received 6 total downloads at the writing of this after release review. I believe the low amount of plays is due to this version being an executable that had to be downloaded. Had this version been a game you could play in the browser (HTML5), I believe this would have been much more successful.
After Squirrels Need Acorns was submitted to the game jam, I started working on improving the game and after several iterations over the course of year the game was finally finished in December 2021, releasing on iOS and Android.
Squirrels Need Acorns is currently available on the iOS App Store and on Google Play. The game has no ads, no in app purchases, and it's completely free. There's no way for me to make any money on this game at all, I just wanted to see if I could make and ship a game. If you'd like to try it out, I would appreciate it if you would give it a play and a rating/review!
I won't be doing that today!

Good day! I believe, I'm not the first one who is trying to run Database, MySQL in particular on top of BTRFS and would be glad to hear recommendations, NOT DOs and such.
Context:
My main point of using BTRFS there for now is compression support - zstd:2 shows ~ 4 times compression ( 285GB/1.1TB) which is kinda impressive and possible allows me to grow DB 2-3 times without any need of changing disk drives.
My 2nd point would be snapshotting for backups, this part I've not tried yet.
