A list of puns related to "Yamaha Diversion"
So i bought the aforementioned bike last week, and it knocks on low revs. I read somewhere that the knocking is normal and i can hear the knocking on many videos of diversions. I would just like to know wheter its normal or not so i can sigh from relief or start fixing it.
Hi all,
I kept having some problems of a bog/hesitation on cold start with my bike. It's cold outside this time of year (anywhere between 0-10 degrees celcius) and my bike needs a good amount of warming up in order to rev up freely without much problem. It just won't rev when cold. The carbs have been rebuild with a lot of new parts and goodies, has been synced, and i did the IR method of synchronising the idle screws and getting the mixture right. Cylinder number 3 does stay a little rich (about 140 degrees, all other cylinders are at about 190) so I will look into this.
I decided to buy a compression meter and also checked the valve clearance. The valve clearance on the intake valves is a little on the tight side (about 0.10 on all of them, spec is between 0,11-0,15).
Exhaust valve clearance is very tight, also at about 0,10 on all four (should be 0.20-0,25). Reading these values, I know I'm in for a valve job.
When using the compression meter I bought on a cold engine (and this is what worries me), all of the cylinders show between 75-80 psi of compression which is very low. I did the oil test and got about a teaspoon of oil into the cylinder when testing and got a litte better result but not much (jumped up by 5-10 psi). This leads me to believe the rings are OK and someting else is amiss. WHEN THE ENGINE IS HOT I GET EXACTLY THE SAME COMPRESSION RESULTS.
Could the tight valve clearances be the cause of this problem? I read that the minimum compression to start and run should be about 90 psi but that your bike would run like shit. This is not the case. The motorcycle runs great when warm and has very decent power. So I'm just flabbergasted at what I'm doing wrong here.
I went to XJrider.com and the site has a lot of information but nothing about my problem. I also think the site is dead because I'm not being accepted by the person who runs the site when I try to make an account.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
I have this great low-mileage Yamah XJ600N Diversion from 1994 with around 20k miles on the clock. I'm not planning on using it as a daily driver, but it'd be nice to be able to do so during the nice months to come.
Wall of text incoming. Sorry.
Now, the bike is overall in pretty solid condition, and starts up fairly easy even after a whole winter of not running (and the engine just being started up after 5-6 years of not running), but one of the last times I had it out on a short ride it died twice on me out of nowhere. The first time it was a suddenly inverted centre-stand kill switch (the one that makes sure it can't start in gear while on the centre stand). This meant that the bike just died out of nowhere while driving, and when I put it on the centre stand to fiddle with the bike, it started perfectly fine and as soon as I pushed it off the stand and kicked it into gear it just died, as if it had still been on the stand. Put it back up, started it and just for giggles I put it into gear while on the stand, and it didn't die. Huh. While in gear pushed it off the stand, and it immediately died. Turned the key to OFF, turned it back ON and everything went back to normal. Haven't happened since then Second time was because I ran out of gas, so that was on me, but trying to start it back up killed the battery, so yay. That one was obviously on me, though.
Another thing is that the gear pedal doesn't automatically flick back to neutral position after having pushed it upwards or downwards when shifting gear. This isn't a huge issue as I can just give it the gentlest of taps in the opposite direction immediately following the gear shift, but still.
These small things (together with a couple of unrelated issues with my previous bike) has just made me lose a lot of confidence in taking my bike out on longer rides, and I guess I'm looking for any advice on how to make it more bulletproof or reliable, if that makes sense? I'm not looking to take it on 1.000 mile trips, but it'd be nice to be able to take it on day trips without constantly worrying if something's going to malfunction or break out of nowhere.
Thanks in advance.
I have an old Yamaha XJ600N and today out a ride in this beautiful sun I lost my indicators and break light! The only things still working are the Main lights and the ignition switch. I'm thinking fuses, is it odd for the indicators and break lights to die at the same time? Also no longer showing when I'm in Neutral on the dash either
Got it home safely using hand signals and giving lots of space from cars
Hi I just got xj900 diversion for my birthday a few days ago. It worked when I got it but now right indicator (front and rear) is on all the time. Donβt blink just is constantly on. Even after I turn the bike off with the kill switch and take keys out. It drains my battery and now I canβt use it as its always on. When I try to use it, nothing happens, just constantly on. Left is working fine. Any ideas whatβs the problem? Where do I need to start?
My beautiful burgundy 1997 Diversion got nicked last night :( It was taken approx 11pm 2/11 - 2am 3/11 (probably, depends on how accurate neighbours are).
I've called police and they said they'd look into it. It's in great condition with just over 24,000 miles on the clock. It also has a pannier rack with integrated indicators.
Any advice? It's my first bike and my first time on Reddit :/
Never had an issue with the bike before and recently had it serviced in the shop for its 50K. Rode it home fine but then the next time I went to use it it a few days later it wouldn't start. Not sure it its a coincidence or the service guys did something.
When attempting to start it makes the electronic ignition noises fine but no engine response. My mate did get it started once since by pulsing the accelerator whilst holding the ignition though the exhaust was quite dark. Now I canβt get it started again to get it back to the shop.
There is plenty of fuel and new battery. The shop guy on the phone assures me they couldn't have done anything but the problem was very sudden so the timing is very suspicious. Any help would be welcome. Either long term fixes or a way to get it started at least once more would be much appreciated.
I'm new to motorcycle maintenance, and want to learn, but I seem to have run into a bit of a snag in the most basic of maintenance procedure: I can't seem to find the oil drain plug. I have the owners and haynes manual, but the pictures there are not really clear. Anyone with the same bike as me that could take a clear picture of where it's located?
Hi Fixxit,
I've traced an leak on my Yamaha Diversion to this seemingly disconnected tube (http://imgur.com/ttE81, http://imgur.com/68z6o). However, being rather new in motorcycles, I have no idea what this tube is, and where it is supposed to go. I can't see any obvious other half of a tube or something like that, but not knowing where to look may mean I'm simply overlooking something. Anyone who can give me a clue on what it might be?
Hey brothers n sisters, ive got a Yamaha diversion 600 1996 and I want to put a top box and panniers on it but I can't find any 600 compatible mounts only the 900 or 1100 ones, will they fit, has anyone got any info that can help me?
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
So...
I'm treating myself to a new/used bass next month for my birthday.
I'm tempted to get
All of these are ~$3000 and TBH the desire for them is more out of a sort of nostalgia. I don't play enough to warrant having a $3000+ vintage bass guitar. And of course how much better is a forty or fifty year old instrument than a new or recent model?
This is a classic case of need vs want. I don't need any of these as I have a bass that makes bass sounds, but I would love to have any or all of the above.
Alternatively, I am considering a NEW Rick 4003. Never grubbied by another's hand.
Or something new/more recent that is sub- $1500 as I don't want to pay $3k for something that isn't vintage. Maybe a Yamaha or Ibanez.
SO the question, bass-redditers, is which bass should I get?
I cannot imagine this question will elicit multiple diverse responses or any kind of debate.
I have had this question for a while but too afraid to ask as folks in this hobby tend to get defensive and aggressive so Iβve been observing from the sidelines in ASR, various forums etc.
From my understanding, below seems to be a few overall agreed upon βconsensusβ in the hobby
1: just like color science and ability to measure performance of TVs and screens, there is a commonly agreed upon and complete suite of technical analysis and measurable metrics on DACs and AMPs (as seen on ASR, stereophile, etc)
2: two DACs or AMPs with identical metrics in those suite of measurements will sound the same in controlled setting to the same recording equipments as well as real people (prob worse for people as our cells in our brain and our consciousness do change all the time so a second later our perception to the same equipment might even change due to our ongoing biology but this is largely negligible) also this means two identical units of the same model and production line under normal QA should sound the same
3: two DACs or AMPs that sound different in a controlled setting to recording equipments will have different measurements and metrics.
4: if DAC is just about presenting signal and AMP is just about amplifying signal, then there exists an objective goal for highest signal to noise ratio and lowest distortion so that the DAC and AMP modifies the source materials as little as possible
5: humanity already acquired the know-how and technique to achieve the objective goals of high signal to noise ratio conversion and low distortion amplification to the source material at a level of listening experiences imperceptible in difference from the source material at our biological limits. In another word, we already solved the problem for βdigital to analogue conversionβ and βsignal amplificationβ. I.e. modern Class D amp design not operating under clipping, ground loop, interference or DAC implementation such as Topping D90SE
If the above are true then the following must be true:
1: DACs and AMPs with the singular goal to do what their names suggest them to do (high signal to noise ratio , low distortion) should all sound the same, and these kind of DACs and AMPs ironically are usually at the bottom price tier of their corresponding pricing hierarchy
2: Any difference in the voicing of DACs and AMPs is due to intentionally introduced / artistically crafted and opinionated distortion by the designer (although there is a line of not having too much distortio

I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
It really does, I swear!

Heard they've been doing some shady business.
but then I remembered it was ground this morning.
Edit: Thank you guys for the awards, they're much nicer than the cardboard sleeve I've been using and reassures me that my jokes aren't stale
Edit 2: I have already been made aware that Men In Black 3 has told a version of this joke before. If the joke is not new to you, please enjoy any of the single origin puns in the comments
