A list of puns related to "Wes Craven's New Nightmare"
It was his two years before Scream and it was Craven's first attempt at doing meta horror.
It's one of my favorite Nightmare films.
Are you into the whole "meta-comedy" thing a lot of movies have going on nowadays? I know a lot of people roll their eyes at self aware humour when it's too obvious and the jokes are easy like something you might see in Deadpool - But I'm actually a big fan of the approach (including Deadpool lol) Anyway one of the earliest films I saw try to pull this stuff off was 1996's Scream, but little did I know that there's a whole world of horror/comedy with satirical takes and self aware comedy, and one of the very best came out just two years prior to Scream in Wes Cravens previous project titled "New Nightmare."

So I thought with Scream 5 (or I guess... Just.. "Scream" as it's officially titled for some reason?) On its way to release this week I thought why not take a look at a bit of horror movie history and discuss how New Nightmare heavily influenced and changed Scream from script to film making it one of the most successful teen-slasher movies to date. When Wes Cravenβs New Nightmare came out, I was very excited after Dream Child and Freddyβs Dead (which I was NOT a fan of). Hearing that Heather Langenkamp would be playing herself just amped my excitement more. Finally, what pushed me over the edge was seeing the much scarier, and more evil Freddy Krueger look. The whole feel of what I was seeing felt like a return to the more scary and less comical Freddy Krueger. And that was what I was here for.
Released: Oct 14, 1994
Director: Wes Craven
Writer: Wes Craven
Runtime: 1 hr 52 mins
Actors: Heather Langenkamp, Robert England, Jf Davis
PLOT
Miss me?- Freddy Krueger
Heather Langenkamp, her husband Chase, and their son Dylan (Miko Hughes) live in California. During a time of weird earthquakes, Heather and Dylan start dreaming of a more frightening Freddy Krueger (Robert England). As people start dying around her, she reaches out to Wes Craven, Robert England and Robert Shaye to figure out what is going on and how to stop Freddy, while dealing with doctors who think she is sleep depriving her son. Can Heather play Nancy one more time to end it or will Freddy win?
MY THOUGHTS
Hey, Dylan, ever play "Skin the Cat?"-Freddy Krueger
After Dream Child and Freddyβs Dead, we get a return to the evil Freddy Krueger. To be honest, this movie seems to be an even more evil Freddy than ever. With a supernatural evil entity giving more power to Freddy, itβs amazing Heather is able to defeat Freddy.
Another Nightmare movie with few kills, only 4. For some reason I thought he got more kills than he did. First two kills were short and Chaseβs death was ok. But Julieβs kill was pretty good. Kind of like a homage to Tinaβs death. Her death while poor Dylan was watching was so sad.
The acting was good, even by Wes Craven and Robert Shaye. I was surprised they incorporated Heather Langenkampβs real life stalker incident into the movie. I also enjoyed them using the real actors as themselves into the plot of the movie. The idea of a demon that is trapped in the movies, able to escape when the series ends is a pretty good idea.
Letβs get into the rankings:
Kills/Blood/Gore: 3/5
Scare factor: 4/5
Enjoyment factor: 4/5
My Rank: 3.8/5
IMDB: 6.5/10
Rotten Tomatoes: critics: 7.9/10 audience: 6.6/10
Letterboxd: 3.4/5

This book differs from the movie by adding in journal entries from the author of the novelisation, who is haunted by Freddy as well.
The next book I'm gonna do will either be A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 and 5 or A Nightmare on Elm Street: Suffer the Children
I know that it was because people were exhausted of Freddy Krueger and Scream was refreshing at the time, but what other reasons did the meta thing not work for a Freddy film?
Of the sequels post-Dream Warriors, "New Nightmare" is considered one of the best of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. But during it's original release it wasn't a block buster despite having Freddy back to his original form, the scary boogyman and not the SNL comedian he ended up being.
Why didn't Wes Craven's New Nightmare become a blockbuster hit like Scream or past Nightmare films

If Nancy died in A Nightmare On Elm Street 3 Dream Warriors how is she alive in Wes Cravens New Nightmare?
