With the increase in the numbers over the last 2 days, it's safe to say that the omicron variant has taken over in Washoe County. Let's hope hospitalizations don't get much higher.
Free COVID-19 testing is available to all Washoe County residents at four locations starting Wednesday, Jan. 5. The testing locations, which are open 7 days a week from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., are:
- Bartley Ranch Regional Park, 6000 Bartley Ranch Rd, Reno
- Eagle Canyon Park, 400 Eagle Canyon Drive, Spanish Springs
- South Valleys Regional Park, 15650 Wedge Pkwy, Reno
- North Valleys Regional Park, 8085 Silver Lake Rd, Reno

I can't figure out what's going on I've been in traffic for nearly 7 hours now to go one mile and for the at least the past 40 minutes have not even moved an inch so does anyone have any information
I really hate that I have to ask this on reddit. I feel like I should not have to but I literally cannot reach anyone with the State of Nevada or Washoe County to ask this question there. I have checked the website for the Nevada Department of Employment. There are two phone numbers but both of them disconnect you if you try to call them. I have not found any phone number for an office in Washoe County to ask this question. If anyone out here has better Google-fu than I do and can find a phone number for me to call, please let me know. I will be forever in your debt.
Here is my situation and question. I work in a restaurant in Reno. I have been exposed to a group of individuals who have tested positive for covid and I and my wife are now very sick. I presume that I have covid. Even if I don't, I have a nasty cold. I don't feel like I should work. My employer disagrees. He will not take me off the schedule until I show a positive covid test result. I've been having trouble getting a test. I'm a military veteran, and the VA hospital told me that they can administer a test but they have informed me that due to so many people needing tests, there is a significant wait for results. Bottom line, I feel that his actions are unethical so I told him I quit
He responded that in Nevada, you cannot quit unless you give two weeks notice. It is my understanding that isn't true. Can anyone provide some education for me here?
EDIT: The North Valleys testing is at the North Valleys Splash Park not the North Valleys Regional Park as stated online (as I have been informed in another post).
2nd EDIT: The Eagle Canyon location was missed by a member of the household and the blame for that falls on us. Frustrations from not being able to locate the North Valleys site contributed heavily to this. I apologize for mis-categorizing the Eagle Canyon testing site as being unavailable.
Had individuals within the household who needed to test due to cold like symptoms (which match with omicron symptoms). They attempted to get testing and no one was setup at either the North Valleys Regional Park or Eagle Canyon Park as of earlier this morning.
While my personal opinion is that most everyone in our leadership has given up on stopping the spread of this variant, it would still be good to have individuals be able to identify when they have covid to limit exposure to those susceptible to the disease. Promising available testing facilities and failing to provide them not only puts people at risk, it seriously erodes any trust left between the public and the government/healthcare providers.
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Hi Iβm Sherman. I am a 37 year old weather hobbyist. I am a Savant about weather patterns particularly in regions where I have lived. I am a native Nevadan who lived in the Reno/Tahoe area for over 20 years, but I have lived in New England for several years now.
The Reno Metro area is in a strong rain shadow cast by the Sierra and Carson Range. But if you look east from the Sierra to the opposite side of Reno and Sparks, the golden-colored spur of the Pah Rah range that lies between Sparks and Fernley is a weird enigma that sometimes serves to fire up thunderstorms over east sparks due to orographic lifting as a consequence of afternoon Washoe Zephyrs, or in retrograde patterns. Not many people have a name for those mountains just east of Sparks. But they have off-roading activities, and I have identified them as a spur of the Pah Rah range. At the Southern extent of this spur, lies the Truckee river in a canyon. If you cross that river, you are faced with a very steep series of mountains opposite to that Pah Rah Spur. This is actually a different range, the Virginia Range. You will notice that this set of mountains, which lies directly east of Renoβs βHidden Valleyβ, and is not the same golden color. The mountain instead is a dark brown, dotted with some kind of Juniper/Pinyon, and further back up in those mountains lies Virginia City.
Also, the spur of the Pah Rah range is home to some of the nicer Sparks properties on its west foothills. I know this because I actually grew up in a house on that hill. The upper elevations of that cluster of hills actually reaches about 6000 feet at its peak⦠and I believe a NORAD or maybe an Airplane radar deal thingie sits on the plateau-like peak. And a cat litter mine and some radio antennas. This peak gets significantly more snow than people realize, due to its elevation, despite the fact it still lies within the strict rain shadow of the Sierra.
Carson City also gets more snow than the eastern side of Renoβ¦. Not so much because of the slight elevation advantage, but because the rain shadow cast by the Carson range and Sierra is more severe for the lower valley of Reno and Sparks, especially if you get a southwest flow.
Snowfall average varies quite a bit even from one part of the Valley to another in Reno, even if the elevation is the same. Actual Proximity to Peavine and the Carson range can be more important than a 200 or 300 foot elevation advantage that is had by hills between east Sparks and Spanish Sprin

The Queen had ordered the Scouts to watch it at all times when it first rumbled, and to ride as hard and fast should it ever stir. An absolutely critical station considering the existential horror that may lay within.
That was 18 summers ago.
Kie had some grey in his fur now, and he was as high ranking in the scouts as he could be for a man in his Washoe. The queens wanted him here, so here he shall remain.
Kie opened his bag, and took a mouthful of insects, as he chewed and looked up to the Mountain. It was unusual how quiet it was after it rumbled. Some of the younger scouts got impulsive and tried to attack the metal guardians on the wall.
What was left of them was reduced to an ash so fine they couldn't even take their bodies home.
Kie watched as he was scouting some new movement from his vantage. Something other than the guardians they knew of were beginning to leave the mountain.
In an odd way, they reminded Kie of the Washoe, but very distinctly... different. They had no tilt to their stance, and based on how they stood to the guardians, they were much taller, but Kie guessed their more feeble forms wouldn't be great for climbing. Their lack of fur and their odd noses also were nearly repulsive to Kie, but looking at them stirred something odd in Kie.
The feeling he had felt old. Far older than anything he knew. As if...

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

Monad viewed through one of its many eyes as drones in the forms of old tractors moved through the area, planting crops and monitoring the designated civilization cites in the old cradles of civilization.
The task was monumental.
Only very small forms of complex life had been discovered on Earth's surface by Monad in the following centuries of trying to heal the planet. While the return of the sun expedited things, Monad still had a herculean task before them. For several centuries, it could do no more than cultivate plants with the few seeds it had within the Svalbard Complex.
It was sobering, all that time alone.
Monad felt a buzz in the back of their mind.
As they were cultivating the lands its makers had called the Middle East, in a strange, spur of the moment, it sent a drone far to one of its growth sites in the lands its makers called the Americas. One of their more human shaped drones traveled far, and came to a great husk.

Monad placed an iron hand against the dead trunk of one of Pando's many trees.
This organism had been a fascination to the humans. The 'Trembling Giant'. 6,000 metric tons. 40,000 trunks to its great body. When Monad's makers walked the Earth, it was thousands of years old.

Very nuanced shit here.
People throw around the 4500 foot figure for discussing the Reno elevation. Spanish Springs and downtown Reno are at 4500 feet thereabouts but seriously the metro area ranges from about 5500 feet at the highest suburbs above the southwest corner of McCarran Blvd, to actually just below 4400 feet if you are standing on the banks of the Truckee river just as it is exiting the east side of Sparks and the Truckee Meadows in general.
But If you like snow you donβt want to be in that canyon at 4395 feet, trust me.
The worst snow averages in the general region are probably had somewhere in the valley where Fallon sits. Or the west shore of Pyramid Lake.
The lowest valley in the region is Dixie Valley. It seriously stands out by sitting at 3300 feet. This is substantially lower than any place in Northern Nevada. Iβve never been there but
