Walter Mondale v.s Bob Dole (If Carter won 1980): An Announcement (Kind of)

https://preview.redd.it/dk066t7irp281.png?width=1366&format=png&auto=webp&s=7e80c1e9ad6ce9530384d4627667a6d2a070e001

Since I'm finally finished with RFK 1968 (for the most part since I just need to make some final edits before it goes in the mod loader) and I'm closer to completion with my other mods I thought that I'd announce I've been making a draft for an Alternate 1984 mod. Basically in this scenario, Jimmy Carter beat Reagan in 1980 and now Mondale is running to be his successor. Bob Dole runs and becomes the Republican nominee because the Republican party would want to run a more moderate candidate after Reagan's defeat in 1980. Usually, I like to stay far away from scenarios after the 1940s but RFK 1968 was a big success so that gives me better confidence in this. I will be working on this for a long time (probably as long as 2008 or 1972 took for other moders) so I can have excellent writing (like CTA level lol) and so I can also utilize things like issue scores better. If anyone would like to give question ideas or ideas of events that could've happened during the second Carter term that would be great since this Subreddit is good with that kind of stuff.

Did Walter Mondale really believe he could beat Ronald Reagan in 1984 or did he know he was in for a beating but chose to be the party’s sacrificial lamb?

I’ve asked this a few times and have never gotten a substantive response. As Mondale died this week he’s been on my mind and am hoping to finally get some insight.
